I know I started the last one (which sadly never reached maturity), but on behalf of Saintsfannick and Holepuncture who have requested this but can't start threads....

Ladies and gentleman, it's the one, the only (apart from the other one that is) - -

Millwall Build-up thread.

Got my ticket! looking forward to seeing the new players for the first time. Think if we get Stock in on time, we will start 541 and look to win it in the last 30 minutes. I think a tight 1-0 win.

Visited one of their sites yesterday and they are very volatile. Say that they will be waiting for us and asked whether we will be running away, again.

We have just got to win this one to shut them up.

By some accounts we should have Stock and Danns by Saturday. I'm going with a 2-1 win. I don't think we'll keep a clean sheet against the Wall but we will put a couple past them.

I will go along with a 2-1 win.

Good work Ron!

Our team has changed considerably since the first game of the season, where as Millwalls is largely the same. Lets see how they manage with Lambert and Fonte over Patterson and Thomas! This is a big opportunity for Saints and I am surprised at the lack of attention/interest, although I am putting this down to the unsavory reputation earned by the Millwall supporters.

The police will be the biggest firm about on the day, and they will be fully tooled up! My Millwall supporting friends will assure you that away fans will be fully segregated all the way to and from the station, and most likely will be on a separate train back into town. You will only get trouble if you wonder off into south bermondsy looking for it, why anyone would want to wonder about around there is beyond me!

I reckon we could embarrass them, or it will be a low scoring draw, as they dont concede a great deal at home, Lambert should be well up for it after a week on the paella!

3-1 Lambert, Papa and Lambert!

I reckon we are in a new phase of team rebuilding with hopefully three new guys in the team, so I am going to go for a 2-2 draw.

I don't know whether I can make it yet with so much to do, but I hope I will be there to see what will probably be an end to end bruising game, with Millwall trying to unsettle us. They are tough - and ambitious too!

Just hope we have a chance to play our best footie (in which case we'll run them out of the park) - and avoid injuries (players too).

I'm looking to the future!

I taught in Bermondsey near the ground years ago and the kids there were just great - terrific chirpy humour and character. But times have changed and arrests more recently I've noticed have included a good proportion of professional city types, lol. They don't like losing! I wonder who has my number?

Posted
anyone know any pubs near their ground we will be ok in?

I assume you're joking? Drink around London Bridge before getting the train to South Bermondsley. Would be mental to go drinking around the ground.

Only 700 tickets sold for this as of yesterday, very poor - hopefully now they're on general sale we'll shift a few more. To take any less than 1800 would be pretty sh!t for a London away game.

I don't get paid until Friday and can't get down to the ticket office before it shuts, anyone know if it's possible to book over the phone on Friday and collect at The New Den? Or if indeed they will sell to away fans on the day?

Sorry did my humour not get through ;)

I used to work up at London Bridge (well, the other side). If I remember all the pubs near the station are wine-bar-esque and not very accomodating for football crowds.

OS says not all ticket and some available on the day 'subject to availability'.

Best give them a call, imo.

Hopefully they'll have some on the day, I've not got two pennies to rub together until Friday, the festive period is too bloody expensive!

If I do go, looking forward to a few jars at the Hole in the Wall before moving on to London Bridge!

Come & join us for a few jars round at Tequila Joes! Hit me up on FB.

Ironically I live only a 15-20 min walk from the Den but I will have to get there via London Bridge (the other way) I bet!

Looking forward to it.

Last went there 2 summers ago for a friendly - Ryan Smith was playing for Millwall at that time. think we won 2-0?

I am also looking forward to it Plumstead_Saint as I have never been to Millwall before especially the New Den as it should be Good and we have a chance of getting something but we will see ;)!

We will probably get the Train to London Bridge then on to South Bermondsey and will probably end up being in an escort with the Police to and from the ground which should be interesting but there we go ;)!

Haven't they got a tough replay at Derby tonight? That should keep them fresh.

Yep, fingers crossed for a tough tie, with extra time, a couple of sendings off and injuries leaving them well under strength for saturday.

There are loads of pubs near London Bridge, and on a saturday will be welcoming enough to football crowds so you have the choice of drinking at waterloo, or short train journey or jubilee line to London Bridge. Train from there to South Bermondsey is only 4 mins. Infact door to door this is probably the easiest away game this season by train!! (well about equal with Brentford)

Yeh I was also going to ask about drinking wise as I was thinking that whether they sell alcohol in the ground or will the Police be really tight on selling it or what?!

But if not then thanks for that information there JRM ;)!

Anyone know if there stewards are 'uber' stewards? - i.e. don't let you in if you're half cut etc.

Aren't you a teacher? Awful grammar.

Millwall is fine. One of the best away games to go to. Can't see why so many people get all worked up about it.

Don't know why you bother with the grammar stuff, you just have to learn to ignore it before it drives you stark raving mad.

I just didn't want to get there with a few beers inside me only to be turned away that was all. It's good common sense to check before hand.

Also give us a ****ing break, it's an internet message board, I'm tired and I was in a rush, we can't all be as flawless as you o glorious bungle. Do you really have that little going on that you get off pointing out poor grammar?

See Window Cleaner's post for further guidance on this subject.

Going to this one - my first away game for ages.

For all Ale aficionados: The Market Porter and The George at London Bridge are picked out in the Good Pub Guide 2010 as top class pubs. I'll be in one or the other....

Looking for a good positive display. COYR's!!!

We've come on a long way since the 1-1 on the first day of the season. I remember thinking after Patterson's strike that we had a little gem of a player. How wrong I was! (Granted he's got time on his side and we've made signings since then...)

This will still be a tough game, Millwall are doing well and won't lie down, but with our new strengthened defence with Fonte willing to make an impression on his new boss/fans, we could win this. I'm going with heart here and say we'll scrape a 1-0 win, though any further player signings this week could make me change my mind...

It's a quality away day. Good banter, good pubs. I presume they'll be keeping us in after the game as they did after the last league game there. Yawn. From what I remember stewards were pretty much non-existant in our end because away fans are in our own separate stand so there's no issues about fans getting to each other unless you can fly.

Been to the new den three times and several times to the old ground and never had any problems, same old story with this fixture because its Millwall.

Gonna be a goodun, I only have good memories of the The New Den.

Anyone at the FA Cup replay there where we won in extra time can testify to that.

The other game was 1st season in the CCC where we beat them and Theo gave them the absolute runaround whilst they were trying to kick lumps out of him!

First trip to Millwall for me. Heard it is nothing like the films and rumors say it is. Apparently it is close to being one of the most secure and safe away games now and as with many clubs you will only find trouble if you are stupid and go drinking in South Bermondsey prior to the game.

Remember the FA cup replay well, a couple of oakley scorchers - also had a memorable night at the New Den for the league cup. This is a six pointer of sorts - would be a shame if we didnt have the numbers to match the importance of the occasion.

Went up there for the cup match a few years ago and a big John Regis (seriously!) looking stewrad tried stopping me and a few mates getting in because he "could smell alcohol on us". Mind you, It was the players lounge door ;)

The set up at Millwall caters very well for away fans with segregation right from South Bermondsey to the stand, been several times to the old and New Den with no problems.

Also recommend Borough Market for pre match drinks, opposite London Bridge station and south a couple of hundred yards, its where the Market Porter mentioned above but there are other good pubs and eats there too.
