BadgerBadger Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Based on Delldays obsession with money and Man City it got me thinking that at some point things have to find there level - natural selection if you will. It is surely not sustainable to continue to pay players so much money, even Man U would've have posted a loss if it wasn't for Ronaldo. How does Baseball in America fund itself, is it all from tickets, TV and sponsorship. Do you think the big guns running the sport will ever start putting in place incentives like F1 tried to do, £40 million budgets with incentives for team that stick to it etc.

Agree fully. Would have to be a Europe wide thing otherwise players having there wages capped in England would soon go to Spain of Italy. Have to say that perhaps League 2 (with exception of Notts County) have the right idea, no more than 60% of income to be spent on wages. In some american sports you get a wage cap, and it gives all teams a legitimate chance to sign big players. Would be great to see this in football, but with so many teams across so many divisions it would never work. For now I think football finance and the team with the richest owner being the big boys, is going to be an evil we have to accept.
dubai_phil Posted 12 January, 2010 Posted 12 January, 2010 Here's the truth about money. Use a company name to raise loans. Buy a club and then milk it dry by forcing it to give you cheap loans and consulting fees. Jeez, I know some got on Rupert's back for being paid a couple of million in salaries over a period of time, but this story really is dirty. If I was a manc I would REALLY be ****ed off http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/manutd/6969666/Manchester-United-owners-take-23m-out-of-club.html

Surely that has to be the way forward - can't see it happening though.
