We had about 3/4 bids rejected by Exeter for seaborne, before we finally agreed a fee.

If pard's really wants him, he'll be in a saints shirt before feb 1st.

Very True

O'Driscol saying they should talk to him or Pardew.

:D

I don't think he realises that the media has direct quotes from Pardew.

Does he not realise maybe Saints have made the bid above his head to the powers that be, at the club?

Exactly ... and from Stock as well ;)

Has AP actually stated that we have put an offer in though? Please find a quote if he has. I think he has said he likes the player - that Donny don't match our valuation of him. But I am not sure he has actually said anything about making a bid. So O'Driscoll might be perfectly correct in what he is saying.

The report says he denies we have enquired about Stock. AP wouldn't know that the valuations were different if he (or the Club) hadn't asked the question.

Saints have made a move to sign Doncaster Rovers skipper Brian Stock, it was revealed tonight.

But Southampton boss Alan Pardew claimed that two clubs could not agree on a fee for the 28-year-old midfielder, pictured.

With Saints captain Dean Hammond suffering Achilles damage in today’s draw at Millwall and out for at least two weeks Pardew may well be looking to strengthen his midfield with two weeks left of the transfer window.

Stock returned to the Doncaster side today in their 2-1 Championship win over Watford after being out of action since September with an ankle injury.

Born in Winchester it is understood that Stock would welcome a move back to the south coast.

But Pardew said today that Saints would not match Doncaster’s price tag for the former Cherries star.

No direct quotes from AP but the Echo would be in even more mire if he had said nothing along those lines.

With all this foreplay taking place, its wierd that SG hasn't been mentioned at all! Is he back training with saints and available for selection on Wed night! With hammond out and Stocky not signing imminently, we may bloody need him!

Sorry, but ALL I can see is press speculation. Not ONE direct quote from AP in any of those rags. And I think AP has been mis-quoted regarding Stock - he said very carefully that Saints valuation of the player would not meet Donny's. That is a million miles from confirming that a bid had been made, rejected and that we were not going back for another try.

Having said that, how many times have we heard a manager state that no offers have been received, only to then be told later that the player is on his way?

Saga would be a quality striker for them! It's all about trying to convince them that Pulis is too...:D

I think a problem we have here is Saga demands a crazy wage packet elsewhere as he will continue to collect his (at least 12k a week) at Saints.

Why move for less?

Go on Saints player and you can hear the interview with BBC Radio Solent for yourself.

Pardew clearly states a bid has been made for Stock.

I listened to it, and I don't hear him say that at all. He says that Stock "is a player I know very well and I know he is from the area but that doesn't mean to say that we can match the valuation of Doncaster for their captain, so that is a bit of a long shot for us". At no point does he mention that we have actually made a bid, unless they have edited the piece since you listened to it.

You're clutching at straws to try and prove yourself right here.

He clearly doesn't say that at all tbf. All he says is the valuations don't meet.

You'd have to be very naive and have a lack of knowledge about how football works nowadays to think that valuations and availabilities of players are not discussed left right and centre between football clubs/agents/players all over the country before an actual bid is even thought about.

The story above says Saints have made a move for Stock but the two clubs cannot currently agree on a fee.

Any smart arse want to argue with this?

Ah, here's a smart arse right on cue....

The Echo story doesn't mention the fact we've made a bid so you are falling over yourself to say the Echo is making stuff up that you yourself have made up.

And the Echo story also doesn't mention we have "confirmed a bid has been made rejected and that we were not going back for another try.". Again, you're getting all bothered about "press speculation" when the Echo story doesn't mention what you are yourself speculating.

But you carry on ranting on about "rags" and lying about the text in said newspapers and then complaining about it.

Them newspapers eh? Aren't they terrible and stuff making stuff up in your own head

Love of football? If he truly wanted to play, he'd take a pay cut. As to whether that cut would be enough for a club like Donny, is another matter! Sadly footballers are paid so much these days, we're setting him up for retirement, rather than encouraging him to play elsewhere on less.

Is the person you are quoting merely pointing out that the Echo have worded the article in a way that suggests that Pardew said a bid has been made and rejected, when he did not say anything of the sort (at least not in the interview with Solent). The comment about "confirmed a bid has been made rejected and that we were not going back for another try." is, I believe, a reference to speculation on here rather than what was or was not in the Echo article.....IMHO

I have not read every word of every article or listened to every interview, but what from I have read and heard I cannot find anything that confirms that an actual bid has been made and rejected. The fact that SOD has actually been quoted as saying that this is the case tends to lend weight to that argument too. What may have happened being the scenes is anyones guess at the moment.

I think he's willing to take the paycut. But as long as it comes with the bonus of playing European football. Taking a paycut and playing for a lower league English team in a gash hole town is a bridge too far however.

That would be great! I am taking my son to his first ever game!! That would be a real bonus!!!

"Daddy? Why are they doing this?"

"I don't know son. I just don't know."

There is a way around that in that we can continue to pay the balance till the end of his original contract if that is an issue deals can and have in the past been done this way it all depends on how the overall deal pans out. anyway his contract runs out in the summer so he cant sit back for much longer!
