Pat from Poole Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 Pardew reminded me a little bit of Redknapp actually when he was asked about Stock on Solent. A clear indication of an interest, but negativity about the likelihood of a deal being completed. It's a clear Redknapp tactic, which invariably seems to work more often than not. Look at Redknapp's comments before the Skates signed Crouch and Defoe, "Oh yeah, for sure I'd love to have him here, but i don't think there's a chance he'll come here." type of thing. It's an obvious call to the player's agent to get sh1t-stirring and put pressure on for the deal to happen.
Badger Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 It's going to be a deadline day deal then. Doncaster will have a choice - £1m (or whatever our final offer is) from us, or nothing in the summer. I think they need the money. Actually I don't think thats the case,as I've read his contract runs to 2011.
trousers Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 Question: Would acquiring Stock vastly improve our chance of reaching the playoffs this season?
NickG Posted 17 January, 2010 Posted 17 January, 2010 Question: Would acquiring Stock vastly improve our chance of reaching the playoffs this season? can't remember seeing him play but seems well thought of. Player of season in CCC side last year. Vastly? Not sure of that.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Question: Would acquiring Stock vastly improve our chance of reaching the playoffs this season? Not necessarily, but it would give us a significant option for an attack minded central midfield that does not exist with just Wotton sat on the bench.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Pardon for what Mate ?! Well your sentence doesn't really make sense.
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 But I thought we were the Man City of League One? Aren't we going to simply buy the whole club and only keep the bits we want?

CB Fry Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Actually I don't think thats the case,as I've read his contract runs to 2011. Fair enough, I don't know either way. I was going on the post before mine.
Weston Saint Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Echo are quoting that Doncaster are asking for £800,000 but we feel that is too much. He was signed by Doncaster from Bournemouth for £150,000 I would assume that Saints value about £500,000 Stock contract with Doncaster expires June 2011.

Christ,£800,00 does not seem unreasonable for a player who over the last two seasons has been 'talked of' in the £1m plus range, some reports (admittedly not a sound source of valuation) at £2M. If anything I suspect it could be the structure of the deal - ie £upfront, add ons after promotion, and even Gilletts value - that might be an issue.

If it was such a good deal why aren't others in then? This is a negotiation if we get him for 500k rather than 800k all the better. We need to be patient and let the club negotiate! a lot of deals will inevitably go down to the wire and depend ultimately on whose nerve goes first! A real market valuation is only ever what somewone is prepared to pay!

A real market valuation is only ever what somewone is prepared to pay! Depends how serious we are about going up this year. You'd think we'd want him in as soon as possible. I guess we'd have a week from now to get him in time for the Brentford match, but I'd like players to at least train a couple of times with their new team mates before playing a match.
CWD Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 I reckon (not ITK, just a hunch) that we will sign Stock at the end of the window for around 750k + SG. Seems like a fair amount imo for a player who is out of contract in a few months. I think people are underestimating just how much the length of contract effects price.

Crab Lungs Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 ****ing hell, stump up the cash Saints.... ****ing ****ing hell... 800k.... **** sake... if i had the money i'd pay it myself.... ****ing hell!
thorpie the sinner Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 I can't believe we don't rate him at 800k! Mindgames a foot here me thinks!!! With Hammond out, we need him big time!
hypochondriac Posted 18 January, 2010 Author Posted 18 January, 2010 Seems odd that we would spend over a million on fonte and then seemingly go for the cheap option in seaborne and haggle over te price of someone who is clearly worth 800K. Have we blown all our budget on one player?
NickG Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Fonte was reported as a lot less than £1m on some sites for initial fee.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 I believe Fonte was £800k with lots of add ons for promotion etc, increasing to £1.2m.
hypochondriac Posted 18 January, 2010 Author Posted 18 January, 2010 I believe Fonte was £800k with lots of add ons for promotion etc, increasing to £1.2m. The points still valid though.
Pilchards Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 I can't see that we are pulling away from this deal if it's just 800k. What's that if it helps us get the season back on track? Anyway I have a feeling that it's alot more but the situation regarding Gillet is making us think he's worth more! fingers crossed on this one.
kpturner Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Personally I haven't seen Stock play enough to have an informed opinion of his worth, but I presume SFC have done their homework. Given our recent history, I can't help feeling it is a little crass to want the club to pay what they consider to be "over the odds" just because we can afford it. Doesn't that sort of behaviour just start to inflate the market and shaft then less well off clubs in the long run?
benjii Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 We don't have a league game until the middle of next week.... no rush; let's stick to our negotiating tactic.
krissyboy31 Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 This from the Solent Twitter feed: solentsport Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll tells BBC Solent he's had "no contact and no bid" from #Saintsfc for midfielder Brian Stock

iansums Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Sorry, but I missed something along the line. Did AP confirm that he is interested in Stock on Solent? If so, what exactly did he say?

This baffles me, I mean what is it?...a f*cking low-grade gossip site full of bullsh*t, half-truths and outright lies. And stephen fry. And alan f*cking davis. But people talk about them in hushed tones as if it was the word of God delivered with a cast-iron guarantee of infallibility

St.Patrik Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 As usual this is all mind games - since AP said he wanted this player he put preasure on our Chairman Cortese (spelling) to get this deal done.

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Just had a Saints news text (believe it's from Orange as my network supplier but it was set up so long ago that it could be from anyone!) that Donny have snubbed our bid and AP has admitted we won't be following up our interest. Is this true?!
Liquidshokk Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1783_5869253,00.html? Southampton put in an offer for the 28-year-old Wales international on Saturday evening, but Saints manager Alan Pardew has since confirmed they will not be following up their interest after both clubs had failed to agree a fee. Dont remember pardew saying this bit....
Scudamore Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/18012010/63/rovers-reject-stock-bid.html Don't think this is the end of this by any means
S-Clarke Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Sounds like those 2 articles are rehashed versions of what AP said after the game. He mentioned valuations, he likes the player and that the 2 clubs have ''differing valuations''
Saints foreva Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 Didn't he add 'at the moment' to it as well?

Matthew Le God Posted 18 January, 2010 Posted 18 January, 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/doncaster/8466149.stm O'Driscol saying they should talk to him or Pardew. I don't think he realises that the media has direct quotes from Pardew. Does he not realise maybe Saints have made the bid above his head to the powers that be, at the club?
