The Brian Stock thread

Seriously, if Burnley appoint Brian Laws I will eat my garage.

Looks pretty much there by all accounts. Burnley refusing to pay compensation to Doncaster Rovers for their manager so have gone for the spectacularly cheap and staggering option, Laws.

And this is supposed to be a Premier League club. Pathetic, but then there are too many non entity clubs in the League at the moment.

Laws may prove us all wrong, but I can't see it.

Laws will be fine, he'll probably do a 'Megson' type job at Burnley and will then be booted out a couple of years down the line.

Personally I would have gone for O'Driscoll whatever the cost, but meh.

Oh, and I almost forgot.... hurry up and sign, Stocky!

Any news on the Stock front?? A guy on football rumours claims he will join West Ham on a free at the end of the season. I wouldof thought Doncy want the cash for him now, it seems to of gone quiet.

Well if he is going to sign before Millwall,it has to be tommorow afternoon at the latest

If we can sort out the details, I still think Stock will sign!

reading how desperate Palace fans are to keep Danns, and that he plays on the right where we haven't stable, wonder if Danns would be better signing?

(based on reports rather than opinion from watching them)

With this new right back signed, don't think we will sign him now.

James will be free to play in the midfield, so think Pardew will be happy with that. All I want now is a striker.

I'm sure the OS states that Lloyd James will now be free to challenge for a midfield position. So the signings may not be done and dusted for midfield?

Laws was a strange choice for Burnley BUT it's good to see a Premier League team not splash out above their means. Granted, it could mean they go down this season, but at least they won't have spiralling financial debts that haunt them for years. I always though one of the reasons WBA manage to be a yoyo club between the top two divisions is because they don't spend beyond their means.

TTS - you seem to be talking as if you have an inside track or are you speaking from experience?

no more inside track than anyone else, but we know that he expressed an interest! problem with us as saints fans, once an interest has been declared, we want it yesterday!! Just think he could do a job for us! a midfield equivalent of Fonte!

Agreed - patience is a virtue n all that. It'll happen if it happens. I'd like to see him here but its got to be right for all parties concerned.

So far,

widely reported on here that he wants to join

Pardew confirmed interest

difference in valuation

Hammond now injured

How likely?

Depends how far apart valuations are, and how in need of money they are (or how unsettled he is but doubt that)

they also want Gillett, and i doubt we'll let them have him without him being included in the stock deal.

One thing that sticks in my mind was that when I communicated with Stock last week he said the move "looks likely". I don't think he would have said that unless the clubs had already had some discussion about fees and I would hope that Pards' bringing the discussion into the public is merely a deliberate tactic to try and get the finer parts of the negotiating done. One thing's for sure, Stock is not going to come cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be our most expensive signing under Pardew.

Heard today that the deal looks very unlikely as Saints not prepared to meet Doncaster's asking price.

don't think he's particularly quick - more of a ''get it, give it'' type player, gets teams passing - one of the reasons teams like WBA were looking at him.

Then we need somebody else to get forward. Ideally we need two midfielders that do the whole job not just half of it.

tbf i don't think he's a ''defensive'' midfielder as such, he takes alot of long range shots at goal and drives forward - but from reading donny fans views he's primarily the sort of player to get a team passing. (sort of player i think we're crying out for imo)

Really hope Pards is strong in his belief that he wants him! That may sway the money men!!

I expect it's just a rumour resulting from PArds' comments to Solent that "our valuations are somewhat different".

My neighbour is a big Donny fan (has a season ticket) and he says that Donny are asking £1.75m + SG for Stock. Whether it's true or not, I don't know.

Guess we'll wait and see.

I guess that might not be too far off the mark but things get complicated if Stock really is out of contract at the end of the season.

If he's saying that he wants to sign for Saints and that he will not sign a new contract with Doncaster, surely he has little value. We don't know if he is saying this, but his desire and his contractual status will have a significant effect upon the valuation each club puts on his head.

It's going to be a deadline day deal then. Doncaster will have a choice - £1m (or whatever our final offer is) from us, or nothing in the summer.

I think they need the money.

I think this is near the money. I posted something similar last night on another thread. This is the beginning of the process, not the end; Pardew has put it out there - Stock knows, Donny know, we know, all of football knows. Either they deal, or he goes for nothing in June.
