The Brian Stock thread

Why would you want to **** off a potential signing for a bit of fun? I don't understand that.

Well that takes me back to the point I made earlier - this forum is not that important, and that kind of thinking is just "forum ego".

Do you really think Brian Stock is going to give two chuffs about you and me?

And if there was never anything posted on here negative about, say players, managers, chairmen etc just in case we upset them then it would be a pretty dull forum, no?

I reckon if NC saw that facebook pot he would be pretty ****ed off, given his recent reminder about speculation on the OS and how he reacted when the Echo released something he didn't want releasing. I seriously think you underestimate the impact this forum and the internet in general can potentially have. Look how WACCOE was almost sued recently and how a player had a deal cancelled because of their stupid postings on facebook. The club monitor this website as well. Clearly there is a difference between voicing opinions and posting a private conversation in public.

If a footballer is dopey enough to start talking up his own transfer on facebook more fool him and fair play to whoever found it and spread it about a bit.

No one found it. It was a private message, from one individual to another. As I said previously, it is up to the recipient what he wants to do with it, and no one can stop him, however the moderators are well within their rights, if they (and, it seems, most people who saw it) feel it is best, to remove it.

I thought forums like this were poke and prod the ridiculous edifice that is professional football, not be an anodyne outpost of the PR wing of the Football League.

I agree, but sometimes a line has to be drawn, and like I said, it wasn't just the mods who felt it best to draw it in that particular place.

It's not about impatience around Stock's signing, I couldn't give a stuff if it takes an hour a month or we don't sign him. Until he signs he hasn't signed, fine.

That wasn't aimed at you, that was aimed at the people who could clearly read all the evidence for themselves, but wanted more, more, more when there really is nothing more to say at the moment.

But this was a lovely little mini-story created by this forum and it has been stamped down so we don't upset the club or the player (diddums!). Where's the fun in that?

'Fun' is one thing, but when private conversations are made public then the forum and it's woners have a duty (IMO) to consider whether it is correct for it to remain public on their medium, depending on possible ramifications. Some might consider it fun, and I'm sure in the long run we can look back and laugh at it and it won't have mattered much, but for now, I think the precautions are sensible.

Fine, just a couple of points.

> Maybe we don't want a player dopey enough to post his own transfer speculation on facebook to sign for us.

> God help us in the Premier League if Cortese is determined to control the entire media agenda for his football club, when we're back in the big time he might come up against the odd Wille McKay or Kenwynne Jones. He is going to have to start swallowing this stuff. Welcome to professional football.

> I don't underestimate forums or the internet, but I do when it is the transfer of a player hardly anyone in Britain knows or cares about to a club in the third tier of English Football.

We'll agree to disagree, [thanks for your response Minty too], we fall on two sides of an argument but I can see what you're saying.

He'd better be a bloody good player if we are cutting him this much slack from the off.

Are you really that bothered if a player is a bit thick? All I really care about is him not breaking the law and his football ability.

Of course he isn't. It just makes sense to keep a private conversation private on here. What's the sense in potentially getting a player disciplined over a bit of fun?

Not cutting him slack at all, just don't really see why we would want to potentially complicate a deal or upset either parties. It is unlikely to happen but it could happen.

I have to say CB you are generally one of my favourite posters on here and you do make me laugh but I don't see any harm in just keeping it off the forum till the deal completes.

Only privacy as the FB conversation was a private conversation IMHO.

just out of interest, was the facebook conversation on Stock's wall or within the backroom section? I mean its hardly private if all friends can see it.

It was a message from one individual to another. A private message, not on any public section of the site.

I can't believe nothing reported at the moment all because of speculation of a website/fans forum.

Let's just wait and see what happens next - rumours are just that, and the official club website will be the first place to look when there is any concrete news.

Unless someone on here get's a personnel message from the man, and decides to share it with us!

Excited about the prospect of any player with Premiership qualities considering a move to us - but let's face it if you could move now for or wait for 3-years what would you do?

You too, which is why I am happy to agree to only slightly differ.

My main angle is this is the first genoowine inside info I can remember seeing and it was quite exciting last night (as browsing a webforum goes of course). All the ITK guff we've had over the years and some lad says "I'm going to ask him" and he did and got a response. It was just great, it was a nice thread to see taking shape yesterday.

Of course there is no harm in keeping it off for now and lets hope we do sign the lad - he's local and second tier quality, so what's not to love.

The Neil Danns one was done as a joke to imitate the Stock one.

Was the facebook page actually genuine? Now Im not accusing anyone of faking it, just asking as the Neil Danns one is exactly the same, makes you wonder.

I see and the Brian Stock one was done my somebody on this forum?

As in somebody asked him.

they said "its unusual to have a tranfer window without talk about where you are going"

Stock " err, I am a Doncaster player until I am told otherwise"

not the strongest statement of staying when presenter wasn't even suggesting him leaving

sorry to ask but... is he any good?

better than Schneiderlin / Hammond?

Considerably so?

or 3 competing for 2 places?

If Saints play 451 like they have been then all 3 can play.

As for is he any good. He is one of the better central midfielders in the Championship and has been linked to lower Premiership clubs so would be a massive coup for a League One side.
