SuperMikey Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Popped my right knee out today, and although I managed to pop it back in again and I can walk on it now (although a bit gingerly) it's still pretty sore and it almost feels like it's going to pop out again when I stand up from sitting down. Obviously the soreness is to be expected, but i'm not sure about it almost coming out again. I popped my left knee out a couple of times before but not done it for about two years, and they seemed to sort themselves out without a trip to the doctor's, but they were a case of popping it back in and it was okay again. Do you reckon this is worth a trip to the doctor's? Thanks!
Ponty Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Probably. How old are you and are you going through a bit of a growth spurt? I don't want to be patronising but it's not uncommon for tendons and ligaments to get over-stretched in teenage lads hitting a growth patch. If it swells up, I'd definitely get down the GP's but if it's ok in the morning I expect I'd forget it.

SuperMikey Posted 10 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Turned 18 last month, so I guess that fits your description. I'm not overly worried about it, it's just not a very pleasant thing to have happen to you when you're at work! Might ring up the GP in the morning and see if he thinks it's worth a look anyway. Thanks guys!

Under Weststand Posted 10 January, 2010 Share Posted 10 January, 2010 I'd go & get it checked, cant do you any harm. I've had trouble with my left knee playing football as a youngster about your age, I tackled someone straight legged & it popped out but popped straight back in. from then I had it a few times, but it never came out completely. So I left it, but a couple of years ago I twisted my knee & it came out completely. Had to go to hospital to get it put back in. They said that my knees had a tendency to push to the outside, but physio has sorted that by excersise's designed to strengthen the tendons/ligaments on the inside to pull it the right way. So I'd go as your knees seem to have a similar tendancy, you may solve it with physio.
SuperMikey Posted 10 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 10 January, 2010 Just got a second opinion from the 'rents and apparently it's swollen up quite a lot, so it looks like i'm headed to the doctor's tomorrow morning then. Do you reckon this is worth a trip to the doctor's? Thanks! Sorry to have to break it to you, but there is no known cure. You could try dyeing it, but the roots will eventuelly show through. You could shave it off, but agian it will eventually grow back. Not sure what else I can suggest, try not to be too down about it though, I know some people who have been ginger all of their lives and they seem to live relatively normal lives. Let us know how you get on though. PS Do you have a care manager yet? I could refer you to one.
SuperMikey Posted 11 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 11 January, 2010 Update (because I know you were all so concerned) Doctor was bloody useless, just told me to keep off it and keep taking Ibuprofen, which is what I was doing anyway. 20 minute walk through 5 inches of snow to hear what I already knew... The knee is actually sorer today than it was yesterday, and it's swollen up more which is affecting my walk. While I could walk relatively normally with a slight limp yesterday, now I can barely put much weight on my right leg at all. But hey, i'll do what the doctor says and if things don't improve i'll go back.

I was warned I'd be fobbed off with pain-killers so within 24 hours I made another appointment at the docs. I said it wasn't working and requested a referral to the physio dept of my local hospital where a specialist looked at it and I was given a good course of physio which sorted it. pedg Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 Has similar dislocation in my youth, pushing your knee cap round from the side was rather gruesome!. All they could recommend to me at the time was to try to build the muscles up. Not that I really did but luckily it stopped happening with age. bridge too far Posted 11 January, 2010 Share Posted 11 January, 2010 (edited) RICE? Yeah RICE You MUST demand a referral to a physio. I remember tearing my hamstring and the GP trying to fob me off with pain killers. When I insisted on going to a physio, she asked me how I knew I'd torn my hamstring. I told her I heard it rip. When I got to the physio (that same day) he said how good it was I'd got there so quickly as the longer you leave an injury, the worse it can get. Actually Clapham it could be REST: Rest Elevation Stuff from the freezer Tight bandage Edited 11 January, 2010 by bridge too far

Justin C Posted 7 May, 2010 Share Posted 7 May, 2010 I popped mine out 7 weeks ago while playing football. I had to have it put back in by the doctor after going to hospital in an ambulance. I was then in plaster (it was red and white for wembley) followed by a splint which has just come off. I am now having physio and still am off work and on crutches. I suggest you go to the docs to see if any of the ligaments are damaged. If you dont get them sorted then it will keep coming out.
SuperMikey Posted 7 May, 2010 Author Share Posted 7 May, 2010 Well, it went straight back in after coming out, but it has swollen up considerably and I can't really walk on it very well, probably won't be able to walk on it in the morning. Meant to be going out clubbing for a mate's 18th tomorrow, don't think that's happening somehow I'll go and see the doc about it tomorrow, because it's ridiculous now. saints-cris Posted 7 May, 2010 Share Posted 7 May, 2010 It it dont feel right, then get it checked. Knee injuries are a complete pain and the sooner you get it sorted the better.
