Fitzhugh Fella Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 for a million pounds from Gillingham, according to the People.
Thedelldays Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 jesus...proper throwing money around it seems
VectisSaint Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 for a million pounds from Gillingham, according to the People. Take that with a huge pinch of salt (if there is any left) then.
sperm_john Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 fonte, stock, danns and jackson .... YES PLEASE
Thedelldays Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 lets say we do spend £3-4m this window..that would put huge pressure to go up this season IMO
SuperSAINT Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Whilst he'd be a superb signing, I was hoping you'd actually heard something, FF. Still, this is the 1st sort of 'official' link to him, as opposed to a few of us going on about it on here!
Give it to Ron Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 lets say we do spend £3-4m this window..that would put huge pressure to go up this season IMO Is there not huge pressure already then??? Certainly certain posters keep saying there is everytime we sign or are rumoured to be signing!!!! Do you think the plan is to stay here in thos **** league? Did Pardew yesterday not state that the aim was play-offs?
itchen_dan Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 If we dont go up this year now, its gonna put unbelieveable pressure on Pardew and the squad next year to go up with ease and if we don't, Pards may be out of a job. can next years squad and management team cope with the pressure and expectation of comfortable league winners??
Thedelldays Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Is there not huge pressure already then??? Certainly certain posters keep saying there is everytime we sign or are rumoured to be signing!!!! Do you think the plan is to stay here in thos **** league? Did Pardew yesterday not state that the aim was play-offs? personally, I have always felt that we should get into the playoffs..but I get told off for saying this sort of stuff as the resident experts tell me other wise
Massimo Osti Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Is The People a newspaper? Are you a bit thick??
krissyboy31 Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 lets say we do spend £3-4m this window..that would put huge pressure to go up this season IMO Still got a hell of a gap to make up in the second half of the season but with AP's words yesterday and actions in the transfer market (presuming these players sign), we're certainly going to give it a good go.
SuperSAINT Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 This wont happen It won't, because Gillingham have already said they'd want more than £1.5m for him.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Jackson is better than Beckford, I pray this move comes off
Huntingdon Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 It won't, because Gillingham have already said they'd want more than £1.5m for him. True, but like Crystal Palace, Gillingham are in deep financial trouble £1M might see them through for a few more months
Give it to Ron Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 personally, I have always felt that we should get into the playoffs..but I get told off for saying this sort of stuff as the resident experts tell me other wise But thats what forums are about surely. Everyone has an opinion just because some think we won't or cant make it thats not wrong likewise your opinion isn't wrong its just that an opinion. Personally think we had too much of a mountain to climb, -10, crap squad, no pre-season and a poor start. All combined will be too much of a handicap IMHO. As long as we have a go thats all I care about - I got carried away under that useless tw8t Burley and am not doing that again!
Saint Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Reckon he's just what we need. Fast and nippy, will compliment Lambert nicely. Really hope this is true, but it will increase the pressure!
Stu Man Do Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Jackson is better than Beckford, I pray this move comes off Really? Based on what? Beckfords a consistent scorer in this division Jackson after a decent start has not exactly set the world alight. Paying over a million for Jackson wouldnt be the most sensible bit of business IMO. We aren't badly off for strikers to my mind its the need for a RB and a more attacking central midfielder.
CWD Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Pppplllllleeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaassssseeeeee let this happen!
SuperSAINT Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Reckon he's just what we need. Fast and nippy, will compliment Lambert nicely. Really hope this is true, but it will increase the pressure! I agree, he'd be just what we need. A different dimension up front. Pressure is there all the time, but pressure is always easier to deal with when you have fantastic footballers in your team!
sadoldgit Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Pressure to go up? I don't think a few more signings will make any difference. The minute we were taken over by a bloke with some wedge the pressure was on. All the mamagement can do it to build a structure that will make it possible. Hard to make it probable overnight as Leeds found. The will is there. The cash is there. But it is down to what happens on the pitch and as teams who have spent money on trying to buy instant success find, spending money guarantees nothing. I just hope that Pardew doesn't get the Burley treatment. Setting your sights for the play offs rather than instant promotion is sensible as you need to mnage people's expectations. Burley achieved what he set up to do but has never been fogiven for not taking us up that season. If pardew gets us to the play offs with -10 that will be no mean feat but if we don't succeed this season he should be given more time. We need to start keeping good people at this club and Pardew is a decent manager.
krissyboy31 Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Jackson is better than Beckford, I pray this move comes off I would have thought he is the player Leeds are most likely lining up as Beckford's replacement IMO.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Really? Based on what? Beckfords a consistent scorer in this division Jackson after a decent start has not exactly set the world alight. Paying over a million for Jackson wouldnt be the most sensible bit of business IMO. We aren't badly off for strikers to my mind its the need for a RB and a more attacking central midfielder. If Jackson played for Leeds he would score more goals. He's got a better touch and is a better or at least equal finisher, plus his temperament is better. Also, Jackson's an international Oh and we aren't badly off for strikers? So if Lambert gets injured, what have we got? Connolly, great signing but fitness is still not that consistent. Paterson, can't handle it yet and Saganowski, doesn't want to be here.......
farawaysaint Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Jackson ius reportedly wanted by QPR and Spurs as well I don't think we can lure him here but then I never expected Lambert or Fonte so who knows?
sadoldgit Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 It is good that we are not being linked to players who would just do a job in Div 1 but would also make us competitive in the CCC. It is nice to see some joined up thinking and planning for the future.
SuperSAINT Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 i would have thought he is the player leeds are most likely lining up as beckford's replacement imo. +1 yes please 169 apps - 71 goals, do for me ! +1
Graffito Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 The pressure will be on AP because the owner will have backed AP's judgement in spending big in a mid-season transfer window rather than next summer. Witness two comments in yesterday's interview with Solent: 1. About "hanging his hat" ,or some such phrase, on Lambert and Fonte taking us all the way to the PL and 2. About stating publically for the first time that the play offs is now the aim this season.
saint lard Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 I would be amazed if we signed Simeon Jackson.
S-Clarke Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Jackson ius reportedly wanted by QPR and Spurs as well I don't think we can lure him here but then I never expected Lambert or Fonte so who knows? tbf i can't see QPR giving any money to Paul hart this window. already been reported that they're looking for ''replacements'' - screwed club.
Pilchards Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Manchester City get linked with 10 players a week because know they have money. If they get one right out of those then the paper tries to tell us we told you so a month ago.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 I would be amazed if we signed Simeon Jackson. Same, just can't see it happening really, although he is the sort of player we could do with to beef up the squad
S-Clarke Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 I would be amazed if we signed Simeon Jackson. i'd be amazed - but i'd have said the same if this was a link to Jose Fonte before we'd signed him! it's obvious that we have some real weight behind our interest now. Fonte, Stock, Danns, Ward...Jackson? amazing if it all happens.
Pilchards Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 i'd be amazed - but i'd have said the same if this was a link to Jose Fonte before we'd signed him! it's obvious that we have some real weight behind our interest now. Fonte, Stock, Danns, Ward...Jackson? amazing if it all happens. I hope all those players dont sign as we can only play 11 players. I think it will only be Danns, Fonte, Pericard and Elliott with a right back coming in too. However if AP trims the wage bill then he might get an extra in.
Ponty Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 No, this hasn't even beeped on my radar. I'd like it to be true but I can't see it.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 This is the one I wanted But sadly I can`t see it happening Not that Iam whinning about the players we have/going to sign
Winchester Red Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 I hope all those players dont sign as we can only play 11 players. I think it will only be Danns, Fonte, Pericard and Elliott with a right back coming in too. However if AP trims the wage bill then he might get an extra in. Now that did make me laugh 'Hope we dont sign all those players, because we can only play 11' followed by 'I think it will only be......' a different 5 players
Saint Without a Halo Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 It won't, because Gillingham have already said they'd want more than £1.5m for him. Errr and when you are a seller just what would you say?
Sour Mash Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 for a million pounds from Gillingham, according to the People. I've heard we're def interested in him from a very reliable source, whether it will happen or not I don't know!
krissyboy31 Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Errr and when you are a seller just what would you say? They'll have enough interest in Jackson to get close to what their asking.
Smirking_Saint Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 I would love this to be true but i can't see it being one of pardew's main departments of improvement. As a team we score bucket loads of goals with a fantastic attacking potential, if you look at the games, the squad, the results it is obvious we are leaky in defence and with that sorted we can push on. I am over the moon with the fonte deal, would be ecstatic if we managed to sign a RB, a DM and perhaps another CB. More attacking players are an extra imo.
