sadoldgit Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 **** its good to have pro's running our club. Even better to actually have money to spend! Thanks for the updates everyone, even at one point if it did seem like there was an echo on here!
Master Bates Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Thanks for the updates everyone, even at one point if it did seem like there was an echo on here!
ottery st mary Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 What has the Echo done now....Mr Murray please join the bandwagon.
Chez Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 (edited) no biggy, but if Ward, Danns and Stock are our targets we seem to be collecting central defenders and midfielders. Where's the pacey right back or back up left midfielder? I recall Charlton fans saying AP kept buying players in the same position, never addressing their obvious weaknesses. No complaints about the targets though, they appear to have the quality we need. Edited 9 January, 2010 by Chez
krissyboy31 Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Thanks for the updates everyone, even at one point if it did seem like there was an echo on here! I was going to post that but decided it was just tooooo juvenile!!
Legod Third Coming Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 no biggy, but if Ward, Danns and Stock are our targets we seem to be collecting central defenders and midfielders. No complaints about the targets though, they appear to have the quality we need. Right back is not an 'obvious weakness' though... Despite people wanting to credit Lloyd James with everything from the black plague to armageddon, the goals we concede have generally been slap down the middle. In fact, I'd ventue from all the games I've seen Harding's conceded more on his side. Murty, James and Thomas are all good enough at RB for this league.
markr27 Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Andros Townsend on loan for left midfield, though is more renowned for his attacking rather than defending

I think hardings been pretty darn good this season
S-Clarke Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 I think hardings been pretty darn good this season Agreed, the fact hardings conceded more down his side is due to our lack of a real left sided player in front of him. Lallana has improved massively in the last month in that side of his game though.

Lallana has improved massively in the last month in that side of his game though. As most players are right footed dont a lot of goals come from the right?
so22saint Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 I picked up on that, thinks he would do well down here. Obertan on loan I reckon. He's been ****e for the Mancs and he's also "spoken to Fergie"...
Legod Third Coming Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 I think hardings been pretty darn good this season So do I, that wasn't my point. People say James is worse, on what basis? He's had more assists and fewer goals have come down his wing... still when has facts been a basis for player ratings...
Lord Duckhunter Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Who is Pardew talking about then? Maybe worth a new thread. Possible names...ward? Healy? Could be this guy, the posters are saying he's gone off the boil. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A61581008
Andy_Porter Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 So do I, that wasn't my point. People say James is worse, on what basis? He's had more assists and fewer goals have come down his wing... still when has facts been a basis for player ratings... I wouldn't try and defend James on here, too many people have him down as our scapegoat and won't accept anything good said about him at all. It just isn't worth the effort trying to defend him anymore. He will be in the team for a long time yet and sooner or later our fanbase will realise he's a decent footballer.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 Agreed, the fact hardings conceded more down his side is due to our lack of a real left sided player in front of him. I'd be most interested to see the factual evidence you are basing this statement on thanks .
Ashley Grute Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 I know this is a massive long shot and I will probably get slated for this but I don't think Ward is the player Pards is trying to get in who is not doing well. I heard he had enquired about Reo- Coker and obviously we won't sign him but could he tempt him to come on loan for the rest of the season? Played for Pards at hammers, having a bad season at AV and has only played 8 games all season! I know this makes me sound like a total nutjob but Pardew is obviously aiming pretty high!

trousers Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 'Couple of players coming in as we lost two "lost two" as in he bid for two players in this current window but wasn't successful or as in web lost surman and mcgoldrick at end of last season? Cheers
Saint_clark Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 "lost two" as in he bid for two players in this current window but wasn't successful or as in weblost surman and mcgoldrick at end of last season? Cheers He was talking about Trotman and Mellis.
Matthew Le God Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 "lost two" as in he bid for two players in this current window but wasn't successful or as in weblost surman and mcgoldrick at end of last season? Cheers When Pardew says "lost two" he means Trotman and Mellis returning to parent club. He has replaced Trotman with Fonte and intends to buy/loan a Mellis replacement and possibly one other.
trousers Posted 9 January, 2010 Posted 9 January, 2010 He was talking about Trotman and Mellis. Ah, ok - cheers

SaintNeil90 Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 anyone hear him say we lost Surman and MCCORMACK! haha think he meant McGoldrick.
St Landrew Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 anyone hear him say we lost Surman and MCCORMACK! haha think he meant McGoldrick. Well, let's face it, he hardly got to know either player. Now if he got a current Saints player wrong..?
Eastcowzer Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 We lost McCormack and Surman in the summer If McCormack is another name for McGoldrick, then he was lost before he left SMS
david in sweden Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 As most players are right footed dont a lot of goals come from the right? stats-wise.only about one person in four is left handed and (as I've seen) fewer of those are left-footed, so the number of naturally left-footed people good enough to play league football must be very few - compared to all other positions.
John B Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 stats-wise.only about one person in four is left handed and (as I've seen) fewer of those are left-footed, so the number of naturally left-footed people good enough to play league football must be very few - compared to all other positions. Thank you - I did not realise it was that high
Psycrow Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 If McCormack is another name for McGoldrick, then he was lost before he left SMS Is there a potential McCormack out there that he could be working on signing? Freudian slip and all that.
alpine_saint Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Is there a potential McCormack out there that he could be working on signing? Freudian slip and all that. I hope it is not that d**khead goalkeeper that killed a young family.
Psycrow Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Gary McSheffrey anyone? http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_5851897,00.html Fits the "not doing so well at the moment" bill
smithy Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Gary McSheffrey anyone? http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_5851897,00.html Fits the "not doing so well at the moment" bill According to my workmate who is a Coventry lad, McSheffrey has been a bad boy off the field and is way out of favour.
Gorgiesaint Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 According to my workmate who is a Coventry lad, McSheffrey has been a bad boy off the field and is way out of favour. Its on the BBC site that he's being allowed to leave Birmingham, didn't realise he was only 27, thought he'd been around longer than that but would be able to play wide right & up front.
Mr Saints Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 Gary McSheffrey anyone? http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_5851897,00.html Fits the "not doing so well at the moment" bill He's a coke head. Allegedly.
Pat from Poole Posted 10 January, 2010 Posted 10 January, 2010 I hope it is not that d**khead goalkeeper that killed a young family. Unlikely, he's in jail.
The9 Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 stats-wise.only about one person in four is left handed and (as I've seen) fewer of those are left-footed, so the number of naturally left-footed people good enough to play league football must be very few - compared to all other positions. Stats wise, at most 10% of the population is left-handed (est 7-10% from Wiki), and although there is a disproportionately higher number of left-handers in professional sports (apparently due to their left sidedness meaning their dominant side of the brain works more quickly in creative pursuits - or something like that), that proportion is not so great as to bring left-handers up to 25%. You've significantly overestimated the numbers of left-footers out there, unlikely to have more than two in any starting XI, despite the two natural left-sided roles. Players will play to whatever pattern they are told to and attack weaknesses as coached, and the only goals that can be blamed on one full bak or the other are where they alone has made an individual mistake - and if Harding sees half (or twice) as much ball as James then it's hardly a fair comparison anyway.
alpine_saint Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Unlikely, he's in jail. Considering that no bugger serves their full sentence nowadays, that means NOTHING.
Doctoroncall Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Considering that no bugger serves their full sentence nowadays, that means NOTHING. I think he's a keeper so we don't need him anyway. I would assume with the hierarchy in place at the club this type of player will never get to wear the red and white stripes.
