Yeh I did mean right back.

I've just read the place thread. I have nothing against them, I hope they do well and would hate to see them go under, but part of me feels good at reading about us at the 'haves' instead of the 'have nots' for once!

Which club do they refer to as the 'clowns'. Brighton?

That would be Charlton who they call Clown Town

Great buy for us a big but mobile Centre Back, just what we needed

The Saints TV interview impressed me, it sounded like he was here for the rest of his career to me.

Loads of positive feedback about him from the Palace forums which is always a good sign. One comment I liked from the Holmesdale.Net site ' Ime palace til i die The Ghetto That Is Penge Today 1:14pm

Gutted about this, genuinly gutted. Met him last year at the HF player of the year, which he won, and he was a top bloke. He had time for everyone, signed autographs until everyone who wanted one had one, chatted with anyone who wated to talk to him for ages and he even had a customary round of Sambuca at the bar.

Great memories, but you do have to wonder whats going on on where selling arguably our best center back to a team in the division below and accepting it like its just a normal bit of news.

This is what I took off the palace forum

£800k Upfront

£400k If Saints go up within 3 Year term of his contract

£100k after 50 Games.

5% Sell on Clause

If that's anywhere near right it's a very good deal for us.

Very excited by this, a centre back that plays the ball out of defence rather than hoofs it. In my (admittedly strange) head, he's the Claus Lundekvam to Jaidi's Mike Svensson.

I was reading through the Palace website and they do seem gutted, but understand it was done due to their financial troubles - oh how I am so glad we don't have those anymore.

He also sounds like a player the fans will love, a real "get involved with the fans" player. Fingers crossed he proves to be the best centre back in the league.

Yeah just reading the CPFC Forum too - 30 pages of "so sad he's gone" & "too good for L1". Amazing to see such a consensus on the guy.

Also like seeing comments like "Please god not Danns too - that would be our best two players gone to Saints"

what a great signing by Saints.not just in the fact we have gained a good player but also in the signal of intent this sends out to the rest of the league. looking forward to more signings of this calibre over the next few weeks :D

Jaidi and fonte are a cracking partnership, and with davis back (although bart did very well) we look strong at the back. Whats really exciting me is the possibility of both Danns and Stock joining. Ive seen quite a bit of Stock and hes a class midfielder, surprised lower end premiership teams havent taken a punt on him. Him and Hammond together would be class, hes a better player than Morgan and still relatively young. The possibility of Danns and Lallana flanking these two has gotten me slightly aroused.

Well done all, keep it going

WHAT THE **** JUST HAPPENED?

Is this a joke?

......and also the one who said he's 'too good for us' ...if he's 'too good for us' then we are going to tear this division apart arent we having players like that, absolutely love it!

whoops I got something right thorpie:)

well you were right about the first one..;)

wasn't your 2n'd bit of info regarding us getting Matty Fraytt? that would be amazing.

Posted
I lose track with these threads!!! never doubted your Matty Fryatt story lol!!!

Very pleased with this. Been at work since 07:30. Just got back - 2 jobs today - no rest for the wicked...

Glad to get confirmation. I didn't doubt you ITK's but it's nice to have confirmation from the OS.

Happy days.

Anyone know if he's cup-tied?

Posted
Yep - for the FA cup. No probs for the old JPT tho!

Thanks. The FA Cup was the worry.

Still, a quality acquisition imo. Will strengthen squad and shows a statement of intent.

Pards obviously wants promotion this year and Markus seems willing to back him all the way.

Belief and hard work will be key. Positive Mental Attitude from fans and SFC employees (players and staff alike) will see us up there in the mix come May.

Great news IMO. For the first time since 2002 we are strengthening ourndefence before it becomes a problem. We still need a RB and another CB will be needed to replace Perry in summer, but this is a fantastic start. Welcome aboard Jose!! :D

Seeing as we seem to be buying the whole Crystal Palce squad. I hear that Victor Moses kid is quite good.

Hint Hint Mr. Pardew

Moses is one Palace player we really have no chance with. Big Prem clubs are interested.

Read it and weep Pompey fans! lol!

so the consensus is Fonte is a silky smooth centre half dimilar to Claus?

Jaidi similar to Deano?

Sounds like a great combination.

mmm... if comparing to Claus you need to compare the other to Killer. Claus for me was never that good without Killer by his side.

Chatting to a palace season ticket last night, he said Fonte was playing right side of midfield and has amazing speed and skill. All palace fans are gutted and shocked at the news and Saints have pulled off a serious signing.

:)

Not sure about the position though, we were both drunk and he was a mong.

Maybe useful as RB then when GM is injured. Could even play him in this RM position with PW at LM. If this is Pards thinking, it does make the Elliott Ward transfer more likely IMO.

Seems to be a central defender Squad number 6

And has been lining up as a central defender in recent games

I wouldn't say they're on a par with Claus and Killer, but the partnership of one brute, header winning, no nonsense defender and one silky ball playing defender could draw similarities. It'd be nice to have a settled centre back pairing. With Thomas, Trotman, Perry and Jaidi we were always chopping and changing. Granted players go in and out of form, but my friend who's a Palace fan seems to think, or know of course, that Fonte is a consistant player, rarely letting the team down.

I expect him to nut me if we also take Danns.

Core question here fellas:

Is if Fonte as in Henry Bela...

Is it Fonte as in Ponty

Is it Fonte as in Fanta?

My understanding is it is this one. This is how it was pronounced by the interviewer on Solent. Oh and it is Jose with a J not a cH (as in Mourinho).

Indeed, although it's pronounced "Font" in a fair few YouTube clips. Is there any sort of accent over the 'e' when it's written properly?

Sounds more likely he was talking about Neil Danns.

The e in Spanish and Portuguese is pronounced ay and doesn't have an accent.

Very true, when I was in Portugal and Boa Morte was playing for us, the locals refered to him as Bo A Mort.

Posted

Well, I think it's JosAY Font personally. José Fonte has an accent above the 'e' in José and not in Fonte. This leads me to believe they should be pronounced differently.

Posted
Don't know whether that is correct. In Spanish it is Jose (no accent) and would have thought the same in Portuguese.

They're completely different, tbh. For example, the 'J' in Spanish would be pronounced as an 'H'. In Portuguese it's pronounced as a hard 'J'.
