"Don't get me wrong , I was happy at Crystal Palace and I had a good spell there. I have only good things to say to the fans and everybody I have worked with at the club.

"But I've made a decision and I'm very happy with it. I've come here with a purpose which is to help this club move to the top divisions.

I have never heard of him and I have no idea what he is like. Palace's defensive record whilst not amazing is reasonable. I just hope he is no Marco Almeida!

 

Fare play to the chap for dropping down a division though but I guess money talks! I particularly like this quote!

As far as I am aware he was the last Portuguese player we had (I could be wrong on this) and they both play in the same position! It was said tongue n cheek and I am sure most will see that.

 

I think living in Scandinavia is having an effect on your sense of humour especially if you are going to bite at that comment! :rolleyes:

Amazing bit of wealing and dealing by Saints! If we can attract QUALITY from a division above like this then we must be looking to finish the season in style, if not this season we will be going up next season! Pardew must will well happy! :D

Fantastic signing, a ball playing defender was our top priority imo. It should give our team a whole new dimension, actually having a calm head at the back who can pick out a pass and at the same time still being a top defender.

 

I never really rated Trottman so I'm glad we've got Fonte in, 6 months of watching Thomas and Perry playing alongside Jaidi wouldn't have been fun.

 

Massive coup for the club and manager, hopefully we can get in another player or two of his calibre before the deadline. For once the futures bright.

Brilliant.

 

If we were a top championship team i'd be chuffed with this signing, but the fact we are in the bottom half of L1 and we've signed him is amazing!

 

It's not like he was out of favour at Palace or anything, he's been their stand out performer this season. It is a HUGE statement of intent, make no doubts about that.

 

I'm so excited, because i don't think it stops here. More top championship players on their way.

There was a rumour that we agreed a fee of £1.5m with Palace, but because the player wanted more wages we lowered the fee to £1.2m and gave him the £300,000 instead.

 

I suppose it doesn't make any difference, but its an extra £2k a week on top of a CCC wage. High wage earners cause a problem should they not work out - you can't get rid of them (see Saga, Thomas...)

 

I hope he hasn't just come here for the money (who am I kidding). Actually what I mean is I hope we paying a similar wage to what Palace's did. Palace wanted the cash, he was gently pushed out the door so hopefully we haven't had to pay a premium to get him to drop down a division. I know we have billionaire owners, but we should always keep in mind what has happened down the road.

LOL!!! They were cousins. It's only natural to assume that cousins share nationality. I mean in Pompey they share the same wives and parents.

This news ceratinly makes up for there being no game today. Makes me feel optimistic about the future that a player getting regular first team football is still willing to drop down a division to play for us. Even if money does talk it still goes to show that Pardew and Cortese have their sights set and Liebherr is willing to back them financially. Great bit of news to wake up to on a Saturday morning with a slight hangover!

Good signing pleased with that.I just hope,if we fail to make the play offs this season we can hold on to everyone for next season because hopefully we'll be strong enough to win the league with the squad we'll have.

Just watched his video on Saints Player, he does seem happy to have joined - is sad to have left palace, but believes he can get to the premiership at Saints quicker than any other club that were interested. (even though we're in L1)

feels like he was pushed out the door and he wasn't all that fussed about joining us, but we more than matched his wages so that has cheered him up. I hope he falls in love with the club, but at the moment he doesn't strike me as someone that desperately wants to play for us.

We are Man City of League 1 - its now official!

 

1.2 million seems alot for a L1 CB signing - looks very flash when you consider Norwich got Zak Whitbread for next to nothing.

 

Cant complain though.
