This is made up to quicken the Jermaine Beckford to Newcastle transfer. So don't worry. :)

 

It is also impossible as would also have to get around rules about numbers of teams you can play for in a season no matter what rubbish the Mirror says. Plus I really can't see Mr Cortese upsetting the fanbase and agreeing to let him go so soon after buying him when Saints really don't need the money.

Newcastle are checking on Southampton’s League One top scorer Rickie Lambert.

 

Lambert has already played for Bristol Rovers and Saints but Newcastle have enquired whether they could get round Football League rules by signing him on loan with a view to a permanent summer move.

This has me worried a little.

 

It is pretty typical though, he does wonders at Bristol Rovers and no clubs seemed interested other than other League One clubs, he re-captures that form at Saints and he is linked with Newcastle....

Very, very unlikely to happen. Why would he consider leaving when he only joined in the summer? And besides, Saints aren't in any need to sell and Lambert will have been fully aware when he signed on the dotted line at St. Mary's that this 'project' was going to take a few years to come to fruition, with promotion more likely to come next season. With that in mind, you'd like to think he was in it for the long haul.

He is a scouser so might a move up north might suit him, plus chance to play in the prem next season, he wont get that here

 

You do realise the following:

 

A) Newcastle is 180 miles from Liverpool.

 

B) He can't play for 3 teams in one season.

Newcastle are preparing for life back in the premier league next season. They wont want Lambert leading the line, they will want / need a proven premier league striker. This story is is a made up one, dont worry :)

Not going to happen, he has just (well in the last 2 months) secured his new house down here with his partner - why on earh 5 months later would anyone want to up sticks and move to the other end of the country?

 

+ you have the fact he cannot play for another club this season.

 

He'd probably cost Newcastle in the region of £3-4m, he's already more than doubled his value by moving here - they wouldn't get him in the £1m region anyway....and i don't think Newcastle are flush with cash to be spending that on a player.

 

Don't panic - let's just enjoy us spending lots of money ;)

The Daily Mirror have looked at who else scores goals in this league, apart from Beckford, and found this chap Lambert at Southampton......Southampton ? Aren't they strapped for cash ? An innacurate 2 + 2 by London journo's me thinks !

Lambert is probably worth say 2m we don't need to sell and would probably be looking for double that. There's no way Newcastle would pay 4m or could even afford to pay 4m.

 

Factor in the 2 clubs per season rule and it's a total non story.

Actually, the Mirror is right when it says he can play for a third team as loans don't count towards the two club limit.

 

While I don't believe there is an awful lot we should be worried about in this rumour, anyone can simply sign him the same way we did Rasiak back in 2006 (he had played for Spurs and Derby that season) - get him in on loan in January and tie up a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Newcastle don't have a lot of money and can't afford Beckford, the next striker to look at is Rickie ..so "obviously" Newcastle will take the cheap option and bid for him..but we don't need to sell.:)

It isn't every club in the land thats short of cash !:D

They are going up. If i was a newcastle fan i'd want to be aiming higher than league one's top scorer if they were going to stay up in the prem. Rickie needs a whole season with us in the CCC before the Prem.

 

Lambert is excellent at this level and will do a decent enough job in the Championship but I can't see him being able to cut it in the PL. If Newcastle are looking to go up and re-establish themselves, then they will need to sign better players than RL.

Lets get something very clear...They do not want Rickie Lambert.

 

As good as he is for us, as much as I love him for his goals this season, he would not get anywhere near Newcastle's first team. He's not good enough to play in the Prem, which is something that they must be looking for. They are after Beckford (Imo not good enough either) but he's the one that would be worth taking a gamble on between Beckford and Lambert. He's the more mobile, quicker player.

Big fish eat little fish and bigger clubs will also look to snaffle up decent players from smaller clubs. The good news is that we do not have to sell and he is very unlikely to go.

After seeing Lambert at Leeds, argueably the best team in this league, I honestly believe that he will struggle against the better CCC sides. I think with his lack of pace he would struggle against better defenders.

 

But I suspect given the option RL would jump at a mov to Newcastle, bigger club, higher league and the opportunity to play in the Prem next year. I however doubt that Newcastle would want him.

Had to laugh at that story when I read it, why would we even entertain a stupid loan deal with a permanent deal to follow in the summer. Just seems made up carp to push the Beckford deal trough. Its also another pointer to the fact that we've slipped under the radar re ML & NC, not many seem to realise that we are in a powerful financial position at the moment.

We are not a selling club anymore.

 

Every team is a selling club. Just look at how Man Utd were forced into letting Ronaldo go.

You dont seem to realise that SFC may have done the same thing with Rasiak

 

when he played for Derby and Spurs in the same season and then for us on loan

Rickie's doing exactly what AP needs him to do.

He may be a good to average striker but he's the best dead ball specialist we've had since MLT- in his prime. Lallana is quick and with an eye for goals -bit like the young Channon and Connolly - again when fit- has an air of George O'Brien about him (those with memories fron the 60's) All entertaining, elegant stuff but IMHO what we need now is ..a big, tough ugly CF who can upset defences...

 

(former models were;type George Kirby, Joe Jordan, Iain Dowie come to mind.

they didn't score every week but they put real fear into every defender they played against.)
