You don't really, seriously, want a reply to this do you ? Please tell me you don't.

Shall I give you a small clue why we are mid-table ? minus 10 points. No pre-season. A new team still being constructed as we speak. Do you want me to go on ?

without the -10....we would still be...outside of the playoffs..

lambert had no pre season at norwich (who have also brought in loads of new players)

Boothroyd had no pre season with colchester

danny wilson has had no money and lost his best player

millwall...we made up of frees

etc etc etc

MLG..if our team has so many players of a higher standard to league 1...why are we mid table...?

One, because we started the season on minus ten points, and secondly we have only signed 4 players within the past two weeks and they take a liitle time to gel (see AP's preview interview today where he says just that), thirdly and finally, you can't always get what you want or expect in terms of results. In a one off game (which every match is in isolation) anything is possible.

I still firmly believe we will be either one of the play-off teams or within 4 or 5 points of the play-offs at the end of the season, as we gel we will start to win most of our matches, and the 6 or 7 teams from 3rd place down to 9th have got to play one another during the remainder of the season.

All of the sides that you mentioned had a proper pre-season with a stable player base with a proper manager and coaches dealing with them before Lambert etc arrived at their respective clubs. None of them were in administration and facing meltdown.

Next ?

I respect your opinion (and it appears to be the opinion shared by the vast majority of saints fans), but for me that statement there totally lacks ambition, as do most of our fans i'm afraid.

Take of the minus 10 and we still wouldn't be in the play offs.

No pre-season? Although that wll have had some sort of effect (for the first 3weeks of the season) it certainly doesn't account for us being so hopeless off the pace at the minute.

How long are we going to play the "team is still gelling" card? Genuine question. It's very nice being linked with all these new players, but the fact is, our current squad is easily in the top 2 of this league. We should not be struggling like we have in the last month. We have spent a lot of money and play offs should have been a realistic target. It makes me laugh hearing people being absolutely fine with a JPT win and mid table solidarity in the 3rd tier of english football. Shows a TOTAL lack of ambition for a club who appear now to be the heavyweight (at least financially) of the division.

we should be winning more than we are...

that is the answer

this is right,we should, we have better players than most teams and yet we can't beat them. We have signed a couple of players who can't make every game (Jaidi,Murty,Connolly) if they could perform regularly then I doubt if their previous clubs would have cast them out on their collective ear. When they play they've done well for us, but Murty has played something like 5 league games out of 26, Connolly has missed the last 5 or 6 and seems to have been replaced by Barnard. Jaidi, we'll see tomorrow but it wouldn't surprise me if our starting back pair is now Seabourne and Fonté. We are wasting the apparently immense talent of Lallana and potential talent of Morgan by aimlessly punting the ball over their heads to a striker who hasn't scored from open play for a few games now, perhaps all the opposition managers have got him sussed eh.I'm not saying that it's a great problem because I haven't believed in the play-offs since we took 4 points from our first 6 games but to me we are signing players we don't need and not signing players we do need.

The club is not lacking ambition. Looking at the activity in the transfer market. They are also saying the right things i.e. we want to try and get in the playoffs. But they have to say that. Some of the supporters could be accused of lack of ambition, including me. But I would actually say that we're just being realistic. Miracles don't happen in any walk of life overnight. Good things take time and patience is what is required. We will get there next season with a stable managment, playing staff, chief exec, owner etc. I also believe that within 4 years we will be back in the Premiership. That was the goal when ML took over - a realistic but also ambitious goal.

To try and place a bit of perspective - although last two league results were not great, Brentford and Millwall have both got impressive home form this year. Surely its the upmost of arrogance to assume we should automatically beat these teams ?

Yes, same excuses about players gelling etc.. but its true surely ? When AP first came to the club there was a HUGE losing mentality and a lot of very mediocre players. Those first 8 games or so had a bigger damaging impact than the - 10.

That said, how many games have we lost over say the last 20 or so (rhetorical question - don't really require an answer). I'm sure AP would prefer it to be better but f**k me - its not all doom and gloom. Pretty sure that pushing for play-offs is still the aim of the club but to criticise them if they don't achieve it this year is a bit extreme.

I get the impression that AP is building a team for next year and that then he should be looking to actually win the title - now thats arrogant but by then it should certainly be achieveable.

+1

There lis a lot of sense in there. We are signing a lot of players that are simply not up to it. For that we have only one person to hold responsible. We should be after quality and not quantity.all season we have needed a midfield general and a decent holding midfielder but we still don't have one.

Speed is also something that is lacking and we are over half way through the season.

Connolly, Jaidi, Murty - quick fixes. Experienced freebies who were worth a punt because quite frankly our squad when AP took over was awful. Since then - think Hammond was a fair buy and was needed. Lambert was a good buy and needed. Harding was another good buy as we have not had a left back for ages. Trotman was a quick fix by loan but centre of defence was definitely an area that needed strengthening. Still early days to judge Fonte and Seabourne but would argue that were both needed. As for Barnard - has the pedigree for this division and everyone was crying out for another striker ........ SO which of the signings have we not needed ?

It is not the fact we are struggling to make the playoffs. It is the fact that we are struggling as a team. We have been complaining all season on here about the lack of speed. We buy even more slow players. We have needed to sort the midfield all season and still do.

You say he is building for next season but where? Take Lamberts goals away and we would be in the relegation zone. You don't need to be a brain surgeon to work that out.

Yes we played brilliantly against MK Dons for large portions of the game. Yes we did well against Ipswich. Last season we managed to play 5 or 6 really good games throughout the season and got relegated. Same as last year our goalie is giving us hope by his superlative performances.

We don't need hundreds of time wasters (not wishing to be detrimental) but we do need a couple of good players that we can learn to depend on.

No disrespect, but it always makes me laugh when someone says 'if you take Lamberts goals away we'd be in the relegation zone'

If Lambert didn't score he wouldn't be playing...... someone else would be...... maybe they'd score?....... maybe someone else would get to take the penalties instead......!

I don't doubt he's very important and we would have a few points less, but let's not forget we started on -10, so only being 4 above the relegation zone just over half way isn't too disgraceful

I suspect if it wasn't for Drogba Chelsea might have less points too

I thought that the January window was when we would see our weaknesses filled. Fonte is a bloody good buy if he continues to improve. Seaborne may next season prove to be a worthwhile buy as well. JO has not looked as good as Thomas so far. Nor as good as James come to that.

We still have no pace which will hurt other teams. Antonio may develop into a very dangerous player but at the moment I am not impressed.

Connolly,Jaidi and Murty are all worth a punt, your words. AP has added to our squad with a trio of players that we had quickly begun to depend on. When Murty came back last time I felt sorry for him because he looked so unfit. Hammond again has not impressed for a month or two. In fact since becoming captain. Harding has done ok but was always getting exp[osed but now Mills may have ousted him as LB. I hope so because he could easily be our LB for a decade.

Remember that he was LB for S****horpe when they won promotion last season from this league. Also he was one of the bright spots in pre season.

aP has done a lot for this club but he is not perfect and has made mistakes. name a manager that hasn't.

We still need the midfield sorting out with players that are capable of playing 2 and maybe 3 games in a week and playing well.

CRYSTAL Palace boss Neil Warnock has told the administrators running the club that the two key players he doesn't want to sell are top-scorer Darren Ambrose and midfielder Neil Danns.

The Eagles are vulnerable to offers for all their squad after they went into administration with debts of £30million.

Palace boss Neil Warnock met administrator Brendan Guilfoyle for the first time yesterday morning.

And it is understood that the Eagles boss spelt out his desire that Ambrose and Danns are players he doesn't want to lose.

Money talks. The administrators aren't interested in who Warnock wants to keep.

I don't see that as an issue.

sorry but Harding is our 1st choice LB and rightfully so imo. You mention him getting exposed? not his fault, more the bloke in front of him. Hammond is like spiderman, in that, you dont know what he offers until he is not in the side and we have looked bad in the middle since he has been injured.

Oh fair doo's sound pretty conclusive.

he said that he had a friend who has a friend who works for the club (saints I presume) thought that a transfer had taken place today. Probably not because if it was the case we might have heard about it by now. Perhaps just talks with a player have taken place though.

We shall see if all the announced "targets" turn out for their clubs tomorrow.

Maybe 'someone' will be unveiled before the bottom of the table clash with Stockport?
