Surely they can hold out until at least the end of the season? They could very well be promoted then they'd be fine.

They will, they have a nipper interesting Arsenal/Liverpool etc in the 4mil price range, was an article last week about it but darned if I can remember where

Things like this are the reason why I am so desperate for Saints to be run as a sustainable business that trades in the black, and does not have to rely on external funds. As grateful as I am to ML, ensuring that the club could run if he left tomorrow is far more important in the long run.

Although, to be fair, the ONLY reason ML can really do this is because the cost of the stadium build has now been taken away from us. Cardiff have this problem due in part to the stadium. Perhaps they could have ground shared with the egg chasers but chose not to. Does Cardiff REALLY need 3 stadiums?

Moving your local club into the 21st Century is as dangerous as being Portsmouth. Neoither model is sustainable while all the money in football goes to players and agents

Really sad, this is happening to too many clubs now, its about time the FA stepped in and did something drastic or football is going to fade away

I have to agree, when you look at the whole picture then football at this level of cost is not sustainable; ther are millions and millions pouring in, but most of it falls through the floor in players wages and transfer fees. Just look at the level of debt in the premiership alone, then of course as their costs go up so does the lower leagues below who have much lower revenues of course.

I was watching Sky Sports News the other week and their was a piece on Chelski, it showed Terry arriving for training in a Bently; come on this is really taking the Pxxs if you ask me, sure there life as a pro footballer is short, but does it really justify the current level of wages? Frankly I think you are right when you suggest the F.A. has to step in, in addition it needs FIFA as well so as to come to some sort of deal on wage capping.

The reason I say that is that it would of course be unfair if the rest of the footballing world did not come on board, for the simple reason just about every player in the premiership would slap in transfer requests to mobve to clubs that offered the big money; it has to happen at some point, therefore they might as well get on and do it now.

I think the FA are going to step in thus:

* Create a 2 tier European Super League with the top 5 of the EPL, top 5 of Spain, top 4 in Germany, top 4 in France, top 5 in Italy, top 2 in Netherlands, Rangers, Celtic etc.

* Have some weird playoff system to do 4 up for down from the 2nd tier by getting the winners of all respective national leagues to play a mini-league in June with the top 4 then getting promoted

* Basically cut the lower tiers of the national leagues adrift to go to the wall. England will probably support 30-40 clubs at this level, the others will all die or become non-league

I don't *want* it to happen, I just think it will

I wonder if there is a common theme emerging.

Peter Risdale

Leeds, Barnsley nearly, Cardiff.

They'll be fine for a while they still have some good academy players left to be pillaged

Now Risdale & Redknapp would have made an outstanding team - they would have caused carnage together:eek:

Although I don't really wish any club folds completely, not even Pompey, I would make an exception for Cardiff (Swansea and MK Dons too) as it would get them out of OUR league set up. They are Welsh and should play in the Welsh League, end of.

Our teams are having a tough enough time of it without hemorrhaging money over the border. They would do alright for themse;ves as they'd regualarly play in the preliminary European tournaments.
