"Spoke to mymate who knows jose, and he said that fonte came to see himto say goodbye. He doesn't want to go but has been forced to go which is a shame. At keast palace will be in his heart" from the CP forum

If that's true (taking it with a pinch of salt as always) then its not great, doesn't sound like he's massively enthused to be joining us and its more about the money. Will wait and see anyway.

Fonte appears to friends with Sebastian Chabal. Would be a great signing, imo, a real brute of a forward.

It'd certainly a hell of a shock and there must be some (Guinness) Premiership clubs interested in him.

From an in the knower on the palace forum. (nothing conrete, but i love idle speculation) :D

http://forums.cpfc.org/showthread.php?t=195122&page=16

A quick scan of the 20 pages(!)... this has on the Palace site suggests that many fans are upset at the inevitable and think they are getting a good deal but can't understand why he's going to a L1 club ..(that has money).

Later posts suggest that Fonte's "salary problem " has been resolved by Saints lowering the fee from £1.5 M to £1.2M.

( a buyers market,eh ?)

Now the years that Danns is also at SMS for a medical, some fans are going ballistic to think he's going too, but Palace are amongst the many clubs who are short of cash and need money for salaries.

The bloke who runs the Gordon is called Roy Danns.

Quality pub, in Portswood at the bottom of Gordon Road, go there must Thursday it's pretty good for a pre match pint as well.

Feel a bit sorry for Palace reading through that read. Brought back memories of our last few seasons.

Hopefully the money we give them for Fonte and Danns will go someway to securing their long term future.

Nah, **** 'em. I hope they go pop. They had no good wishes for us in the summer. Their chairman even called us cheats for going into admin.

Well given that the JackanorySFC stated his mate, the unnamed target, does NOT play for Crystal Palace, then no, Danns is not who this thread is about.

Got bored and didnt read it all.....

No leads then? Did scott post every available play in the world in the end or not?

Quite simply, JackanorySFC is friends with another player (NOT Fonte) who Saints have had a bid accepted for, and who is hoping to complete the move to Saints in the next few days. This player is supposedly, in JackacnorySFC's view, a pretty big signing who has been looked at by Premiership clubs.

Thank you...looks like the outcome may have been worth the suspense!:)

IF Stock is the player, then Wotton is probably most likely to drop out, and I would suggest Schneiderlin would be used a little more sparingly so as not to burn him out. He is still young remember, especially for a central midfielder. Plus, as you say, Lallana could then be used in the hole or alongside Lambert.

Bottom line is, whoever we sign, it gives us more quality options... I think it's good to struggle to come up with a 'best 11'... keeps players on their toes and competing for places, but gives the manager options to change the system.

Brian Stock, Morgan, Hammond, Lallana, Wotton and Danns

Ok Lallana more on the wing or hole but is this to much quality as well as quantity in this league?

If we're just talking about the centre, I wouldn't include Lallana. He's a striker or a winger. I also wouldn't include Wotton because I think he is extremely limited and surplus to requirements. In that respect we do have too much quantity.

That leaves four quality CM players, which is about right IMO.

Probaly not - but on the assumption that the OP is genuine then surely any CCC player who is being looked at by PL clubs is going to be someone we think "won't happen".

Well yeah, which is why I said "I don't think I know enough about the CCC" after the whole Facebook thing brought up a load of possibilities. For one I haven't got a clue who Brian Stock is and I'd be really shocked if Brian Howard was in any way a shocking big name expected to sign for a Prem side...

Surely you know who Brian Stock is, Taffy? Cracking midfielder.

Of course we want the squad to improve..if for no other reason than we need cover for unforeseen injuries. So far this season we have had the following players out for "longer periods; " Murty, Davis, Connolly and Jaidi (seems only half fit) ". Throw in a few suspensions here and there, and it could mean having some key players out at a time when we might be heading for a play-off place. Sign more I say, and we've got options. If we make it back into CCC this season, we can have a house-cleaning in the summer.
