I know Jackanory, I know he knows this player, that much I can confirm. Whether he will end up moving here is completely uncertain as clubs always have to negotiate and if other teams also bid at the last minute things can change so no point speculating really.

 

Do you remember when saints always used to miss out on players we wanted and Lowe would always blame it on other clubs "being alerted to the players availablilty" by the press coverage!

I just FB searched on Jose Fonte, 3 results - 1 is a fan page (12 Palace fans on it...), one's someone with 6 Portuguese-sounding mostly female friends and the other is extremely restricted and has no picture - which could feasibly be him but is of no use to anyone who isn't already on his friends list...

 

...mind you if Rickie Lambert added Pat from Poole there's hope for us all.

Nope, don't remember that at all. What I do remember is that we never commented on a player signed to another club!

 

I have no reason to disbelieve any of this, but it does show the problems we have in trying to sign any good players in the January window. Those good enough for the CCC will be looking at Saints being in League 1 next season, so you can understand them being tentative. I think the best we can hope for is decent loans, with an option on both sides if we fail to get promotion or the player does not perform. The only problem with that being we may have to wait towards the end of the window for availability.

 

Looking at the targets, this is a massive statement of intent from Cortese, one I never thought they would adopt and really does put us as the ManC of league 1. A lot of the players we have bought / looking to buy I doubt would be suitable to gain promotin from the CCC, so you would tend to end up with a massive squad going this way.

 

Cortese is very serious in trying to get out of this league immediately and that is going to bring pressure to bear on Pardew. The big freeze may actually work to our advantage, such we do have the squad to compete when the games come round. But we must get the players in soon or it could very easily all be too much for us.

Unlikely, they've just had some east Asian bloke pump a load of cash in and the HMRC thing is just a safety net if they default on an agreed schedule of repayments from December which was set up once he'd arrived. Chopra especially isn't going anywhere, only (re-)arrived in August.

 

If we signed Adam Johnson I'd be delirious, he's like Adam Hammill except he can play football.
