Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 5 January, 2010 Share Posted 5 January, 2010 What exactly constitutes 'light' or indeed 'heavy' snow? Will constant light snow throughout a day have time to settle etc/have the same effect on roads etc that we saw in December?
Johnny Bognor Posted 5 January, 2010 Share Posted 5 January, 2010 Snowfall's intensity is determined by visibility. When the visibility is over 1 kilometer (0.62 mi), snow is considered light. Moderate snow describes snowfall with visibility restrictions between 0.5 and 1 km. Heavy snowfall describes conditions when visibility is less than 0.5 km. Righty ho, more importantly for me, is whether or not constant light snow will have the same affect on the roads that heavy snow does... I'm facing the prospect of getting up to go to work tomorrow in Basildon, getting there, and being snowed in when I try to get home...not what anyone wants really! Eskimos never fail to get to work and home again, so you should be fine.
