Jose Fonte 1.5m rumour

As Palace are like Pompey and failing to pay wages it seems odd that he won't move. At least Saints will pay him something. Palace fail to meet the obligations of his current contract! :D

No doubt his team mates are pointing out to him that if he DID hurry up and sign for Saints then they have a chance of getting paid this month

Some views from palace fans -

''Thanks Jose. It's been a pleasure watching you play.''

''I am not sure anyone outside the premier league needs to sign many players over the million mark. If southampton cannot put together a team that would get them up into the championship without spending like this then they deserve to be in administration again.

I am trying to think of the last player we got in for more than 1.5 million that turned out to be worth it. Stinks of unimaginative short sighted management to me.''

''NO NO NO!!! FFS KEEP JOSE!!! I'D RATHER SEE THE BACK OF DAVIS THAN LOSE ONE OF THE DIVISIONS BEST DEFENDERS!!!''

"Have to agree with everyone else on here - if he left it would be a near disaster.

He's been the backbone of our defence this season and the best central defender we've had for quite some time.''

(i love this post)

''why wouldn't fonte want to sign for the soton? They are on the up, the club is turning around its financial woes, they are starting to work there way up the league and I wouldn't be surprised if they made it up this season. or fonte could stay here, a cash strapped club which is being forced to sell its best young assets to keep a alot for the next 6 months with no realistic chance of being purchased by new investors and who could be battling relegation (if we go into admin) come the end of this season?

I would love him to stay but if we get 1.5mill he will be off and good luck to him.''

Well the Mirror article was done hours later than those. Possibly after further negotiation had taken place.

Not hard for Saints to pay or tempt a Palace player when like Pompey they aren't able to meet the demands of the contract and pay on time.

But the clubcall and eatsleepsport reports are exactly the same and they've obviously taken their stories from the local rag. So this is in essence a local rag v mirror story. On that basis i'll go with the local rag.

Ps. don't waste your time reading websites like clubcall and eatsleepsport ffs.

If Ess is on a wind up, I will lose my faith in humanity :(

Oh come on, you're not seriously telling me that you saw that it was Essruu posting it and thought 'That must be reliable, he never ever winds people up on internet message boards'?! ;)

Although on this occasion, I'm inclined to think he's telling the truth.

FWIW I do think this one may have legs, simply as Palace have problems. While he may not have wanted to drop a division, the need for fire sales can sometimes mean the selling club tend to be able to add extra incentives.

You're right, if anything i'd say Palace are probably begging him to leave, simply because £1.2-1.5m would plug a hole for them.

alot of their fans seem to think we're overpaying too, which could suggest palace are very keen to move this on.

Sorry dont agree the player does not want to move not Palace.

We have had lots of high earners refusing to move because of personal terms

So you wouldn't think that if Palace need say 1mil in a hurry and a player wanted 250k a year extra in his wage packets to leave that a deal to give him an extra portion of an inflated fee in lieu couldn't be worked out by a dodgy agent?

Not saying it IS the case, but it could be a possibility

Well the original deal was £1.5 mil, now its being said its £1.2, that extra £300k in his back pocket could be a nice little sweetener to sign on the line for us.
