Bartosz Bialkowski Posted 5 January, 2010 Author Posted 5 January, 2010 http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=552585&postcount=177 I personally hate trouncing through all the HCDAJFU source-less tripe just to get to links like this. I find another about another player, i'll post it again. Cheers.
Joensuu Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Palace need to sell, so the price is determined almost entirely by the number of rival bidders. I'm sure that Palace, Watford, Pompey etc will all be bombarded by opportunistic bids on the last day of the window...

CWD Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 1.5 mil is A LOT of money. esp for a defender. Anyone know anything about him? (que barrage of wikipedia links )
Johnny Bognor Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 1.5 mil is A LOT of money. esp for a defender. Anyone know anything about him? (que barrage of wikipedia links ) Sit next to a Palace fan at work, he is one of their better players according to him.
Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 (edited) great news... great to be money whores in league 1 Edited 5 January, 2010 by Thedelldays
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Just spoke to a Palace supporting mate at work here in London, and apparently he's pretty handy.
vince Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Mate of mine at work is a Palace ST holder - he said this about him: "Yeah, I like him. Got him from Benfica a few years ago and he's pretty reliable. Scores the odd goal as well. Makes the odd blooper from time to time as does anyone at this level. Would be a good buy for any Championship or L1 side but I think we would take that sort of money for him."
Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 We are Man City of League 1 the way we are throwing money around in the global down turn and watching clubs like stockport, notts county and pompey face financial ruin..is disgusting I blame the premier league...dunno why, it must be their fault
disconnect Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Live in Palace and go to the occasional game - he's pretty good, and a giant. Would be a good signing and is quite young (23/24?) if I recall.
teamsaint Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 the way we are throwing money around in the global down turn and watching clubs like stockport, notts county and pompey face financial ruin..is disgusting I blame the premier league...dunno why, it must be their fault I think you will find that UEFA and FIFA are also at fault !!
Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 I think you will find that UEFA and FIFA are also at fault !! i would say...it is everyones fault..bar saints
The Kraken Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 £1.5M sounds like an awful lot of money to pay for an average Championship defender. He's obviously a good player; my mate is a Palace fan and says he's been one of their better players in the last few years and would be gutted to see him go for less than a million. But to me it seems like a huge sum of money. Still, in Pards we trust...
Saint_clark Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 I think the valuation is what he's worth to us. With him, Jaidi and Ward as our three main CBs, and Perry and Thomas as backup, our squad would look immense.
Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 if we spend this sort of money...isnt it a bit ironic laughing at pompey at their financial plight...there is no way it is the norm for league 1 clubs to spend millions...regardless of what you receive for player sales....
Smirking_Saint Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 If this happens it will be a real show of intent, even if we actually go through with the bid and lose out to a champ side. I however, cannot see this coming off, but as always i live in hope. Ward,Fonte, barnard, donnelley, beckford, jancker. Should be a good january

Yes it's ironic but hopefully we're not being financially mismanaged.
Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Yes it's ironic but hopefully we're not being financially mismanaged. the only we can be spending this sort of money (on top of what we have) is being in the pocket of one person..... anyway..would be amazed if a decent CCC worth £1.5m would drop down a division

With no debts Delldays this fee could probably be paid from matchday revenue alone.
Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 With no debts Delldays this fee could probably be paid from matchday revenue alone. really..? I would be interested to know what our matchday income is over a year.. and if that would cover the costs of the (high) wages, player purchases etc.. I would be amazed if it covered spending another £1.5m-£2m in jan...

Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Take into account prize money from the cups as well. would probably pay for rickie and saggas wages for a few months.

Should be a good january Jancker signed for a second division team in Germany yesterday, so I think we can safely count him out now. It was on the skysports infobar last night.
NickG Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 what was break even figure last year - 15,000? lost a mortgage, Rasiak, John since then and getting 20,000.

It's sick
RonManager Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 I would say a bid of this magnitude would be seen as an investment in the future in that the club would see him as a player to be with us all the way back to the top flight. If so, then the price is relatively low, regardless of the league we find ourselves in at the moment.
Saint_clark Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 £400,000 every home game based on the tickets being an average of £20 each and the attendance being 20,000. Now if you disagree then you're entitled to that, but I really don't think our wage bill is THAT high. So far then, over all our home games we have made £5,800,000 (including the extra 10,000 for Exeter, and NOT including any of the cup games).

Thedelldays Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 anyway....just hope one day we dont get bitten in the arse again financially
Saint_clark Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 anyway....just hope one day we dont get bitten in the arse again financially Sorry, but I don't believe for a second that our wages have cost us £5.8 million so far this season. We're STILL living within our means - which is incredible, really.

We're STILL living within our means - which is incredible, really. probably..be we do have a large squad..we trebbled lamberts wages..no doubt hammed, lallana, kelvin, saga and thomas are on a high wage..then the other players, jaidi, connolly... I bet papa is one of the leagues best earners... then you have the coaching staff, the main 3 will earn a fortune.. even so, you are probably right..just dont think I could take it if saints were led down financial ruin again

For the sake of arguement an average player wage of £4k pw x 20 players = £4m. Add another £3m for running costs. I'd say we're doing ok without before any transfer budget agreed by Herr Liebherr. Saint_clark Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 We DOUBLED Lamberts wages. Just to be pedantic And I agree, but the figure I got just then was lower than the actual figure would be - if we assume on average everyone spends £5 at St Marys on a match day, that's another million quid.

I know it's if's and but's, but that's what investment is - a calculted risk. The statement of intent by ML/NC when they took over was clear. I guess we have to trust them.
Wadge Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 We DOUBLED Lamberts wages. Just to be pedantic And I agree, but the figure I got just then was lower than the actual figure would be - if we assume on average everyone spends £5 at St Marys on a match day, that's another million quid. 20,000 average X £5 = 1 million???? Think you need to recalculate that one.
benjii Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 if we spend this sort of money...isnt it a bit ironic laughing at pompey at their financial plight...there is no way it is the norm for league 1 clubs to spend millions...regardless of what you receive for player sales.... Well, Pompey are certainly a cautionary tale for us to bear in mind. I think there is a qualitative difference though. Firstly, we are not buying these players on debt. It's pure and simple, good old fashioned benefaction from Markus. Secondly, we have some assets above and beyond a squad of players. Thirdly, our ownership structure is very simple.
Smirking_Saint Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 We don't know for sure it is all liebherr's spending money though ?? Surely he can tie the transfers into the company ?? Using southampton FC's capital and so if he left we would perhaps have to replace his spent cash ?? Personally, i don't think this is the case but you never know
benjii Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 We don't know for sure it is all liebherr's spending money though ?? Surely he can tie the transfers into the company ?? Using southampton FC's capital and so if he left we would perhaps have to replace his spent cash ?? Personally, i don't think this is the case but you never know Cortese has repeatedly said they have not taken on any debt. Now, I don't see how we can afford, on League One income, to sign Lambert for £1m, Jaidi's wages, Connolly's wages, KD's wages etc... in the long-term. I'm sure we're being well managed but I expect that when the rope gets tight, Markus gives it some slack!
kpturner Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 We are trying to 'BUY' the JPT cup. It's sick That made me chuckle :-D
Saint_clark Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 20,000 average X £5 = 1 million???? Think you need to recalculate that one. Indeed, I added an extra 0 onto the 20,000.
Scudamore Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Congratulations on ruining my enjoyment of this thread dulldays...

Well the dell days, like house prices everythings going up, and to be fair I always wondered how L2 / Conference sides managed to survive on 2,000 crowds. If they can't balance the books they shouldn't be in the league. We are here by default. The whole idea of the -10, and last years bankruptcy are a bad dream. If you've been around as long as your name suggests you'll recall that the sort of money we've spent in the past (even at CCC level) makes this seasons spending look like "tea-money" compared to then. The real secret is surely we have a playing staff on " more reasonable " salaries rather than some of the prev. "stars" who collected every week and never played on a regular basis. There are far more players on the market now and many of them are "free/Bosman" types. Half of the present squad didn't cost any fee at all, so we can afford to splash out on good players sometimes. Saint Samuel Posted 5 January, 2010 Posted 5 January, 2010 Has he got much pace? Think we need that at the back.
