ZebadeeRust Posted 7 January, 2010 Share Posted 7 January, 2010 In reference to the Charlie Ademeno post earlier. It says in the local Crawley news that he's being watched by Saints, Millwall and the Gills. I've watched him3 times this season and he's Crawleys best player . He's a nippy right winger/striker with a bit of skill about him. He's 21, a decent bloke by all accounts and has scored 6 goals in the last 3 games. Thinking about it, he's scored in all 3 games I watched this season. Apparently Crawley have a confirmed bid in on him and also verbal interest from another club. Crawley need money so I expect him to go somewhere in the Transfer window. A shame for Crawley but that's life in football I guess. Would he be good for Saints? Hard to tell when his current opposition is Grays, Eastbourne etc.

Jimmy Gabriel's Halo Posted 7 January, 2010 Share Posted 7 January, 2010 Agree with the above 4 or 5 posters. We could certainly attract some young talent from the Prem but on a loan basis only. CCC players maybe, but not current high profile players. Perhaps those on the fringes of their respective first teams and who would rather be playing regularly albeit at a lower level and probably the older ones at that. The best we could get would be the current very good L1 players from some of our oppos such as Barnard and Puncheon and Pitman from L2 AFCB but not Jackson who, frankly, is over-rated and over-priced. Ward, I think, will go elsewhere probably to another CCC club if he goes anywhere. Of course, I stand to be corrected but I feel it will be harder than we think to attract a higher level player to L1 without breaking the bank and presumably existing pay structure within the club. And we all know where that leads. The scouting network is going to become very important from now on, there are undiscovered gems out there and they can be unearthed. We used to do it on a regular basis in the past.

Would we want a "PL nipper" playing RB or CM? Possibly as cover for DH & MS in the centre, but apart from that young Liverpool lad not sure there are any 19 year olds we'd feel are experienced enough to cope at CB in L1? No DB most definately NOT like them at all. I was thinking further back a bit - players like Mick Channon, Martin Chivers, Steve Williams, the Wallace brothers, Steve Moran, Nick Holmes and Le God and many others. More recently, Theo and Gareth. And not to forget we knicked Alan Shearer from under the noses of Newcastle. We used to produce these players in droves, why not again ? If true i'd expect Fonte to drag it out a bit in the hope a bigger club in CCC comes in.

Gordon Mockles Posted 8 January, 2010 Share Posted 8 January, 2010 It's a shame we're not a season ahead & pushing up the Championship as I see Giles Barnes is out of contract from Derby. What a great player to spearhead our attacking play from midfield (or even wide). Good, creative player. We've no hope in League One but if we did manage to get promoted, this is the calibre of player we want to attract. Barnes will be going up no doubt, no downwards, attracting serious interest from Birmingham, amongst other clubs.

I would also, if we could affotd his wages, take John Utaka off them down the road. I saw John Utaka transfer talk on Sky & thought the same. Despite being a large wage drop & bitter rivals, if all personal terms could be agreed, it must be tempting for a player if he's settled. Half hr up the road. Chopping & changing & moving home is the life of a footballer though. I guess they're paid enough to endure that hardship! Regardless, it's always gonna be hard, no matter what you offer, to expect players to drop 2 divisions (although, clearly, he'll be dropping a division this season anyway & we could push for play off places so a slim posibility we could meet next season) & more so with international players wanting to boost their chances of an international place with the World Cup coming up. In Pardew we trust. I'm just relieved we are (after many years absent & clueless due to the past chairmanship) in the market & have a seemingly good scouting network in place (any network is an improvement to Lowe's debacle!) with funds available from our board (for a rare change - people that run Saints for the football & shrewd financial planning). I just hope we bolster the squad across most positions - RB, CB, wingers, back up forwards & midfielders. Clear out the dross the last idiot brought in! MerceSaint28 Posted 8 January, 2010 Share Posted 8 January, 2010 Sorry guys Utaka won't happen. The Morrons down the road were paying him 80k a week allegedly and he is not that good. I hope we get one or both of Ward or Fonte, Danns in midfield and Jackson up front. I still really worry about that right back slot also so the boy Logan on loan from City with view to permanent would be nice

MerceSaint28 Posted 8 January, 2010 Share Posted 8 January, 2010 Agree Mockles. I live in London and get to as many games as i can but the thing Saints really lack is pace and have so for the last 8 years. The last player of genuine pace (apart from Walcott of course who was only here 5 minutes) was Camara on loan. I think teams with pace on the flanks really expose us down the full back positions. James is not a right back and has no pace, Harding struggles for pace also. Even up front, no one has that electric pace and i really feel we need that. Last year we had the awful combination of no pace and no power, at least with the signings of Lambert, Jaidi and Hammond we are stronger. Of the signings mooted it looks like Pericard is a done deal. I am not over the moon with this signing but if he has been brought in as back up to Lambert and we are still going to bring another striker ie Barnard or Jackson, i think it will be a decent signing as Pericard could be a decent squad player BUT ONLY IF WE GET ANOTHER STRIKER. I think Midfield is another worry, if anything happens to Hammond, i would really worry that is why Lines or Danns would be needed. I would prefer Danns of the two. I also think Puncheon would be a fantastic signing, powerful, direct and scores goals. He is on loan at MK but Plymouth may sell, so it could be done. In defence, we all know we need at least one more centre half, however the right back slot must be considered. Time for Pards scouts to earn their corn and dig up a right back with pace. Pards its over to you. 8 days before Millwall away, would be nice to have 2 or 3 in before then as the games against Norwich/Colchester and Leeds show we are not strong enough yet
Smirking_Saint Posted 8 January, 2010 Share Posted 8 January, 2010 I don't know if anyone on here has commented on the freddie sears situation yet. It is my understanding that he was recalled from his loan at crystal palace. Youngster with a bright future ahead of him, now, he only scored once at palace i believe but think he cdajfu in league 1. Pehaps also has a history with pardew and perhaps with connelly with the latter acting as a tutor perhaps ?? Could be cheapish too, that being said if the price is too high there is better out there

We seem to be linked with every player going so there are some hungry agents out there smelling action (and no doubt cash). I think the weather is delaying some potential deals but I would not be surprised if we see a number of signings over the next fortnight. Arfield is a key, key player for Falkirk and he'd be brilliant for us imo. £300,000 isn't that much either considering he's still pretty young and he's an established name up there. He could win a few caps for Scotland under Craig Levein as well, because I think Dundee Utd were scouting him for some time.
