Here's a quick list of local born and bred players:

Brian Stock

Sam Vokes - Lymington?

Brian Howard - Winchester

Wade Elliott

Adam Lallana

Mathew Paterson

Andrew Surman

Aaron Davies

Lukas Jukietwitz

there is also no reason why a Saints B team or something like that couldn't play in the Hampshire League giving local youngsters another chance at making the grade

The makings of a decent team there.

Re Southampton B teams, I'm sure at one time Saints used to field one in the local leagues. Correct me someone if I'm wrong. With 39 players on the books and very few Reserve matches these days, we should be keeping them active (lol)

Why should they not make "big journeys" it really can't be that bad.

a big 4WD with an experienced winter driver would knock off Coventry -Southampton in a couple of hours.

i once knocked one off from Coventry to Southampton. Cab driver wasn't too pleased.

not sure how we can compete with Norwich. They can match our wages - if we are looking to break even rather than rely totally on hand outs, and more importantly they look like a good bet for promotion this season.

Doesn't really mean much to us (unless you believe the rumours about us being interested)...

18.36 Jermaine Beckford's agent has confirmed the Leeds United striker has handed in a transfer request. Reports suggest Newcastle United have made a final bid of £1.5million for Beckford' date=' who is out of contract at the end of the season.[/quote']

Out facilities and POTENTIAL fan base is, they wont top more than 25,000 next season. Plus Lambert has admitted he would sell Holt for the right money.

Also the lifestyle down here must be a million times better in this modern economy.

You can add James Hayter (Sandown) as well.

Norwich is a nice city and has a good night life, if you ever happen to be up that way I can recommend it.

Southampton is a bit of a dump to be honest. Good football team though!

Potential fan base is irrelevant. Norwich have 21,000 ST holders and it would be more but the club capped it at.

Their home support numbers wise is far superior to ours.

Fine unless you are stuck in the mountain of traffic that innevitably racks up as soon as the roads get a bit frosty.

My missus is a Norwich fan, raised in the area. I won't say anything bad against them or the place. (Though it is a bit of a dive. :-D)

Saints are much better though. :-D She's readily coming to St Mary's for the Ipswich game - pretty much the one and only time she'll be cheering us on!

I've heard from a source I trust that we have made a firm offer for Brian Stock from Doncaster (Gillett plus cash) I know his name has been mentioned on this thread (who's hasn't) Any one else heard this? Is he any good?

Posted
I think we can rule out Stock, Donny's player of the season last year i believe and PL clubs were interested.....if he does leave, expect it to be to a top 6 CCC club

Not so sure! I met stocky a few years back as he was dating a relly, when he was at Bournemouth I think! Big saints fan, so could see the potential!! at least I think he was a saints fan lol!!!!

Wouldnt come back to Saints and has already played for 2 clubs this year?

In a season yes. Not that it look like he's actually played for Pompey mind. But aside from all that it's never gonna happen...

Not seen him mentioned so far, but may have missed him. But how about Jack Cork seen he's just returned to Chelski from Coventry. May not be achievable but would be a good acquisition if we could get him. would solve the holding midfield problem, & also an emergency CB.

Chelsea are recalling loans like Mellis and Cork for a reason. They need home trained players for European games.

Lowestoft is a bit of a hole, but Norwich is a nice city. Definitely one of the better venues for a Saints away game / weekend away.

Norwich is caught in a time warp. The last time I went there they had only just discovered toast.

That is what I like about Norwich. Lived in the City since '84

Now I must go and put the gas lights on and have a go with that new telephone communication device !

As the Pompey will have to sell all of their squad, there is a chance for Saints to come in and bid for few players, who in my point of view would consider going down the leagues to join us.

Tommy Smith, Marc Wilson, Angelos Basinas and Hassan Yebda are possible signings.

they can't play for anyone else this season

Jose Fonte set to reject Saints

Neil Danns also a target

Nice to see that this story may have legs though, it shows we have some definate ambition to the second half of the season.

I'm sure if nobody else has come in we can fight through a wage tangle and see what happens. I would be annoyed if we miss out on him to another league 1 team. Especially with whitbread leaving for a low fee to Norwich (reportedly)

What sort of player is danns ??

Wilson can. He has only played for the skates.

BTWO they discovered that Basinas' legs have gone hence why he didn't get a game for Harte or now for Grant.

Yebda is on loan from Benfica.

He must have been p*ssed right off when he noticed that

Can sign him on loan with no problems.

you are right, he hasn't played for the skates at all. I was confusing him with Smith who played one game for Watford then a few for the skates. Williamson played about 6 times for Watford before he moved.

Missed out on a player that "potentially" may sign for a top flight German club? :D

A player that "potenially" may not sign for a top flight german club, There is no difference in people saying Brian stock may be signing for us with wolves interested in the summer as they potenially may still be interested ;-)

The fact that not many big teams have looked at volz makes me think we could have a good chance of signing him with our ambition we could be a good club for him, He is only at Schalke to get his fitness up and Schalke is the club he started at so they are doing him a favour but nothing is certain to say he will be joining them on a permanant deal.

I may be well off the board here, this hasnt really got anything to do with our transfers, but if sunderland were to sell kenwye jones, was there a sell on clause?

Looks like we may have missed out on this one

Yes, it suprises me that nobody snapped him up. With Murty likely to never play regularly for us, you'd think we could use a player of Volz's experience.

This one could be a good signing for us, did pardew work with him at reading or was that coppell?

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_5837924,00.html

No chance. He wants to play at the world cup, we all knew the hissy fits the poles had about playing for us, and that was when we were in the CCC!
