Official January Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread

Stocky would be returning to the saints - he started as a schoolboy at saints before going to bournemouth!

In the old days he would have progressed from Southampton Schools into the full team like Paine and Sydenham did. SFC grew because the quality of its home bred players made the difference. I can't but help feel sad the way that the modern game has gone post-Bosnan -and ever since Sky and modern agents corrupted the game with it's billions. When the bubble bursts will it return to something like the old days, I wonder?

Of course it won't, but wouldn't it be great if we could develop a successful team based on regional talent. Vokes and Stocky for starters to join Lallana; but who else born within say 40 miles of Southampton CDAJFU? Perhaps a few from extinct Poorpey's academy?

(Nothing wrong with a little romanticising. At least we can do that)

Brian Stock would be a very decent signing, so decent that it won't happen while we're in League One. Doncaster rejected bids from Wolves in the summer for around £2m, I can't see them accepting £1.5m.

Unless he is out of contract in the summer or has expressed a desire to leave.

Not that I believe it to be true or likely either.

Brian Howard. However the first part of your post is a load of arse really. Some players have to make the step down to make the step up. Stock has certainly not proved himself to be a top flight player in any way...and that's where we were when he was released. As such it was the right decision. In the old days players who weren't good enough for the team weren't played in the team. Just like these days.

Darius Vassell... he might just conceivably take a drop to an ambitious league one club to come back to England...

Suggested him a while back (if you look at the HCDAJFU's on the front page). He would be quality I think, he's got experience but he's not past it and in his prime he was one of the best English strikers out there.

Here's a quick list of local born and bred players:

Brian Stock

Sam Vokes - Lymington?

Brian Howard - Winchester

Wade Elliott

Adam Lallana

Mathew Paterson

Andrew Surman

Aaron Davies

Lukas Jukietwitz

you could add Lloyd James, Baird, Matt Mills, Cranie, Best, Bale, Walcott, Bridge, Blackstock and McGoldrick to that list as players brought through by Saints

there are also rumours that Brett Pitman, Ben Thatcher and is it Robert Friend at Wolves are all Saints fans!

And I can't see any reason why Saints don't have stronger links with Southampton Schoolboys like they used to in the old days

My dad played for Southampton Schoolboys in the 50s which at the time had a close link with SFC - several of his team mates ended up playing for Saints - and he was offered an apprenticeship by SFC but my Grandad made him get a proper job on leaving school at 16 to help support his 8 siblings!

how times have changed! he ended becoming an accountant instead!

weirdly he didn't play football at school as he went to King Edwards on a direct grant having passed the 11 plus - which at the time was a rugby only school!

he did play for Old Edwardians later though - and later still the Army during his national service (where he shattered his kneecap playing against the Navy)

there is also no reason why a Saints B team or something like that couldn't play in the Hampshire League giving local youngsters another chance at making the grade

Hopefully it was Alan Pardew or Nicola Cortese who did it!!

on one of the transfer sites it says we've made a double bid of £2 million plus for Elliott Ward and Freddie Eastwood!!

fess up - who was it?? who made it up?

saying that I do think there will be some strange transfers this January as players move from clubs in financial distress to clubs with no debts and money to spend like us

Coventry, Derby, Portsmuff, Boro, Celtic, Rangers, West Ham, Palace, Watford and Notts County are all in a bit of financial bother

whereas teams like us, Huddersfield, Birmingham and Forest all have money to spend thanks to wealthy owners

Interesting to note how many of this year's scholars are local boys, as compared to last year - and also how it's the younger ones who are leading in the goalscoring.

He is on a huge wage.

According to the article in When Saturday Comes Vassel's Turkish club hasn't paid him recently or possibly at all since he went there. He has been quoted as saying he loves the fans so much that he is willing to stay despite the problems - how long that lovin lasts is going to depend on how quick they are to get some money into their club.

Irrelevant whether he has been paid or not. What it shows is that he would only agree to a large wage in the first place and would be looking for a similar deal elsewhere. He is likely to be on at the very least 3 times that of Lambert.

So, to save me trawling through all the crap and juvenile rantings, have we actually signed anyone?...apart from Antonio that is.

I wish I could post with such maturity. A quick look on the first page of this thread would tell you where we stand.

I must have missed something, what exactly is it that tells us he is on a huge wage? The fact he plays for a Turkish club, or the fact they don't have enough to pay him? Neither are conclusive.

As for relevancy of being paid or not, well if you have no income then you are going to take the highest offer available, if that is nowhere near what you got in the past you can sit on your hands earning squat waiting for an offer down the line, or you can lower the lowest amount you are willing to get out of bed for.

I dare say a reasonable offer from us rising based on goals, games and promotions might interest.

He was widely reported to be on 40k at Man City. That is a big drop to what Lambert is on.

perhaps he dropped to £20k a week in Turkey (by all accounts its £0 a week at the moment), and maybe he will drop to £10k a week in Soton? Pure speculation of course, the question is, is he even worth that these days? He was a 1 goal every 5 games at the top level, would that become 1 in 2 in the third tier? I was never all that impressed by him, but League 1 is a long long way short of the Premiership so perhaps he would look outstanding.

I bet we don't pay 10K a week to anyone, not even Lambert. Might get up to 10K a week with bonuses and stuff but 10K flat, doubt it.

It's hard to talk about Vassel without watching this video, arguably the biggest overreaction to a player's arrival in football history, and definitely one of my favourite moments in the whole world.

He looks really scared.

I can't see anyone signing until this weather dies down a little bit, people are not going to make the big journeys.

It may happen but i doubt it, early next week i think we will hear about a few signings

Why should they not make "big journeys" it really can't be that bad.

a big 4WD with an experienced winter driver would knock off Coventry -Southampton in a couple of hours.
