RedAndWhite91 Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 I have to laugh at how a while back a few posters made comments about how Sol Campbell wouldn't be a worthwhile signing when he was available on a free. Started tonight for Arsenal in the Prem. Yep, he would have been a terrible acquisition.
ottery st mary Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 Sols wages would have been a major no no for the Saints....30/40/50 grand etc a week plus his beauty oils and stuff. Or are they called image make up nowadays..
SuperMikey Posted 27 January, 2010 Share Posted 27 January, 2010 I have to laugh at how a while back a few posters made comments about how Sol Campbell wouldn't be a worthwhile signing when he was available on a free. Started tonight for Arsenal in the Prem. Yep, he would have been a terrible acquisition. Judging by his performance against Stoke the other night he's far from his best at Prem level though. From the highlights it seemed as if he just couldn't cope with Fuller, and he's the kind of player that Sol would've had in his pocket 4 or 5 years ago. I think that he'll retire when his contract with Arsenal runs out (is it at the end of the season?).

NickG Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 Puncheon's a top player at this level. If we ever lost Lallana, i'd sign him in a heartbeat as his replacement. Good from set pieces too. I think we'd have a chance of getting him unless MK Don's get promoted this season. issue at the moment though is that Mk Don's paid a loan fee to have him for the season - which is why i don't think we'll see any movement until the summer. Although FC Twente are sniffing around him i heard. Puncheon was best player on the park for MK. Yes please lets hope so!
RedAndWhite91 Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 Fair enough, I stand corrected. And I didn't think about his wages either... I still reckon he would be able to do a job in League One though.
sad saints fan Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 Southampton are in transfer talks with Falkirk after increasing their offer for Bairns midfielder Scott Arfield by a third to £400,000 rising to £1m with add-ons, but Preston and Huddersfield are also interested. Matthew Le God Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 QPR perhaps?!?! Nope, they may have rich owners but they aren't investing much cash. Just sacking managers. Plus they have sold some good players as well.
SFC Forever Posted 28 January, 2010 Share Posted 28 January, 2010 We have an owner that has allowed our manager to increase a squad which was already far to big when he arrived. His words not mine. He does buy the odd good player at this level but also some very odd signings have arrived as well. My doubts now are as to whether he actually knows his best team. RB still seems to be a big problem as is our midfield.

RB still seems to be a big problem as is our midfield. This whole best team arguement is very old fashioned. Alex Ferguson hasn't named the same side for over 100 games, it's all about picking the best player for the game at hand. Do agree that the squad is far too big but on the other hand, we aren't going to be able to sell Molyneux, Pulis or Forecast amongst others and there's no point giving away players like Gillett, Gobern, Holmes, Thomson etc for peanuts they might be needed at some point. The problem with our midfield is that when we play 4-4-2 we bypass it completely and they don't get a look in...

Chez Posted 29 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 29 January, 2010 Mcsheffery has just gone to Leeds on loan until the end of the season. blimey. If he can find the form (and confidence) of three seasons ago that will be some signing. They have some proper players there in Snodgrass, Beckford, Kilkenny and Kisnorbo. Despite that they still shipped three at Swindon. Says something about the top six or seven sides in this league.

saint-crinny Posted 29 January, 2010 Share Posted 29 January, 2010 Saw on Sky's clockwatch that Bryan Hughes has terminated his contract at Hull today. I've always thought he was quite a classy midfielder and would do a job for us in league one. Was also at Charlton at the same time as Pards so could be a link there. Apologies if this has been brought up elsewhere?

Apologies if this has been brought up elsewhere? very decent footballer. He was great at Brum. Not the `midfield general' people talk about on here though, and can drift in and out of games. Does offer that touch of quality on the ball. Wages would be an issue I feel.
