only confirmed his interest in Stock, but the problem is that Doncasters valuation doesn't meet ours....at the moment.

I think your last three words - deliberately chosen, I'm sure - are the most important. Doncaster already knew, Stock already knew, and now we Saints fans and the rest of the football world knows, that we are after Brian. The current difference in valuation is IMO irrelevant as Donny know they risk having an unsettled player for the rest of the season, if no other bids are forthcoming and one who, if memory serves, could leave for free at the end of the season (I think he is out of contract but am happy to be corrected). This is the beginning of a longish bartering process and for that reason I don't think it is a coincidence that Gillett has yet to sign for them despite their advertised interest. Pardew has put it out there now, so watch this space....

If I'm honest, I didn't think prior to today that a CM was a priority but after seeing todays game, and how we didn't produce anything going forward, i think a decent CM is exactly what we need. With Holmes back in the mix and Antonio showing he can do a job up top, along with Lallana, Lambert, James and Connolly, I think we have enough cover in the wide areas and up front.

Never seen Stock play but if he's decent then get him in. I have seen Danns play three times - remember him being very good in one of them and dont remember much from him in the other two so he couldn't have been that good, but either one would be a decent addition.

Anyone who think that with the signing midweek we've solved the right-back problem, think again. The more I think over JO's performance today, the more it angers me that Pards said he played well.

If AP is to carry on playing Lallana in the middle of the park behind or sideways of Lambert (where I don't think he is very effective) there is only room for two CMs, which have been Scneiderlin and Hammond so far. Would playing Stock instead of either of them make a great difference?

Or would Stock be interesting as the third CM, moving Lallana back to LM in a 4-5-1? I can't really see that replacing S or H would be a massive step forward in itself.

my mate Stephen Dawson has turned down a contract at Bury and is available on a free in the summer. http://www.burytimes.co.uk/sport/football/shakers/shakersupdates/4823703.Dawson_still_a_key_man_for_Bury__says_Knill/

we should be enquiring. He's not a mate really, I just rate him as a player.

Rated him a few years ago when he played for Mansfield. Not seen much of him at Bury but would be a decent addition to our midfield. Probably not well known enough to please alot of people on here though.

he's been their skipper and won player of the season last year as well as making the PFA team of the year. He scored yesterday running beyond the strikers and getting into the box. I didn't realise he was near the end of his contract otherwise I'd of said we'd have a very hard time getting him, but seeing as he wants to play at a higher level maybe we have a chance. The big problem is the number of sides up there that could offer him a deal without him having to move.

Yep saw that goal today. Just the type of thing Saints are missing, a player making runs from midfield into the penalty area.

Two names I haven't heard mentioned before have appeared on the Echo list of possibles:

Nathan Delfouneso of Villa, and

Pim Balkestein, Ipswich

Last time I saw a name on their list that no-one else had mentioned we ended up signing him - Jon Otsemobor

..anyone heard any rumours about the two above?

there was a lot of talk earlier in the season about Pim signing a new Ipswich contract. Not sure if that ever took place. 76er already suggested him though. I'll add Delfouneso (is that the right spelling?)

Original rumour was Saga to Ipswich with Balkestein coming to us, but that seems unlikely now we have (probably) signed a full compliment of defenders.

Delfaunseo on loan from Villa has been a recurring rumour for a while, but suspect that one is just pie in the sky.

Rumour on 606 today suggests Jason Scotland from Wigan on loan. Very good call if it were to happen as Scotland not quite cut it in the Prem but would score shed loads in League 1.

Rivaldo to Saints AAAAAAAAAAAAH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, best thing i've seen in ages, wonder where the original source came from.

Without doubt, the best rumours were that of Rivaldo joining on £38k a week and Charles Asampong Taylor, a 29-year-old player from Ghana. Generous – yet badly written – comparisons have been made between him and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Apparently, he was announced on Boxing Day as a £2m signing for Saints. A signing Pardew was pleased to have made due to the pair being lifelong friends.

Nobby Solano has not gained a permanent deal at Colchester, perhaps he unfit or generally not up to it anymore.

I would let him train with us, just to take a look.

+1. class is permanent (not like boothroyd would know). As to fitness, you can only take a look....

Will be an update about transfers later on the OS according to twitter - moves out is my guess loans etc

That was my thoughts, players out rather than players in. Must be some news to report otherwise they wouldn't give us an update.
