Wildgoose Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 No chance it will be anywhere near £1m or even £500k. His contract ends in 6 months so £200k is more likely. I read £300,000 somewhere but can't remember where!
corsacar saint Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 If true perhaps we will play him at right back.
Thedelldays Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 If true perhaps we will play him at right back. or centre back..?
ottery st mary Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 I read £300,000 somewhere but can't remember where! Limited Time left to expiry of contract... Length of time ie 18 months for offered new contract plus wages and renew contract and wages at later date ie if we do not go up this year or next...( we had better go up sooner the better) or he walks..300/400 sounds about right. He would have to get match fit as with Stock....Hope they are both on their way..with Danns and that Messi boy... COYRs
Toomer Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 All this speculation on who is on the way to St Marys, we need to ship about 6 or 7 out to get the wage bill down to a level that our income can afford.

Andy_Porter Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Wasn't even on the bench for Coventry's last game. Cov don't run a reserve side either, if he's not in the first team squad it's in his interests to leave asap.

Toomer Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 dont think matching our outgoings with our income is on teh agenda at the mo... That blows the business policy of MLs right out of the water then:)
Toomer Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Who would want some of the rubbish we want to get rid of though!! Blue Square north or south sides:) with exception of a couple we want rid of.
Saint_clark Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Blue Square north or south sides:) with exception of a couple we want rid of. And how many of those could afford their wage demands? I'm afraid we will have to wait until their contracts run out before we can wave bye bye to the likes of Saga and Thomas.

I'm afraid we will have to wait until their contracts run out before we can wave bye bye to the likes of Saga and Thomas. Or we subsidise them like Chelsea did with LeSaux when he played for us.

My comment is thats level that most of what we rid of would be their standard.
SFC Forever Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 I was under the impression thomas only has till end of the month on his contract.
Matthew Le God Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 I was under the impression thomas only has till end of the month on his contract. Player contracts run out in June. Except those taken on short term deals like for example Pericard at Carlisle.
hoozonside10 Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Player contracts run out in June. Except those taken on short term deals like for example Pericard at Carlisle. Thomas almost lost his driving licence a few weeks back having run up 12 points, he was allowed to keep it for family reasons, but he also said in the paper that his contract was up in January and he may be having to move up North - his Wife and Child live near Christchurch at the moment and I think they were planning to stay.
Whitey Grandad Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Thomas ws signed in August 2007 and I would not imagine it was for 3 and 1/2 years. Isn't there a 6-month period before the end of a contract when you can start to look for another club?
sperm_john Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 just noticed this on sky sports website under 'transfer clockwatch' 15.05 Skysports.com understands Southampton are closing in on the signing of Coventry defender Elliott Ward. with a list of todays transfer gossip ... sorry if already posted
topo Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Hi All, I am a Cov fan, this is the situtaion as I see it. Registered last year to give you support through your troubled times For reasons we are not party too, Coleman just doesn't seem to rate Ward. He's one of our top earners and I guess they want to move him on. He's been pushed down the pecking order. We now have James Mcpake, Richard Wood, Leon Barnett, Martin Cranie & Ben Turner all competeing for two centre back positions. Now for my view..... I like Elliot Ward, I do not think he has ever let us down, good solid defender, chips in with a fair amout of goals, especially off corners and takes penalties. He'll be a real asset for you, I wish him good luck.

NickG Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 still not counting on any of these until they are done! Keeping best players and adding Fonte would be good window. Adding Danns - who palace fans rave about and plays on right would seem to add a lot. Adding Stock or a forward is starting to seem greedy! With Jaidi, Fonte, Perry, Thomas plus youngsters not sure Ward is crucial but sounds a good addition.

Out of interest, how do you rate Cranie? Oh, and as a Saints fan in Cov I may be up at the Ricoh tomorrow cheering on a Skate defeat. All the best.

Seems like we're spending money where we don't need to and not really concentrating on our remaining weak points, ie right back.

But Perry and Thomas wont be with us in a few months time probably so getting in Ward is planning for the future if it happens
Window Cleaner Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 As far as we know. Stock, Danns,Fonté,Ward ...nope no right backs in there. We are(perhaps) signing players we don't need, I hope A.P knows what he's doing (if of course any of these sure thing rumours are correct). If not NC will fall on him like a ton of bricks. One thing a Swiss banker cannot stand...spending money with no results to show for it, it's their motto.
NickG Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 don't get me wrong sounds like he would improve team/squad etc but won't be gutted if we don't get him.
Matthew Le God Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Stock, Danns,Fonté,Ward ...nope no right backs in there. He said "as far as we know". Saints may well be after right backs but hasn't reached the media or ITK fans yet. Personally I doubt a right back will join Saints until the summer at the earliest.

My point was how do you know we are not going to sign one by the end of the transfer window? Are you AP or NC?
happysaint Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Heard that Thomas was going on loan to Plymouth, this would get him off the wage bill. and allow space for Elliot Ward. This is a rumour i know but makes sense.
NickG Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 I think he is happy with Murty and James - two players he mentions a lot in interviews

My point was how do you know we are not going to sign one by the end of the transfer window? Are you AP or NC? I thought AP spoke of just a couple more players in his Solent interview(after Fonté had signed).
CWD Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 don't get me wrong sounds like he would improve team/squad etc but won't be gutted if we don't get him. My feelings exactly Nick. Sounds like a great addition to the squad but isnt particularly better than what we have atm. will take over from Perry and Jaidi tho i guess. I have a feeling we may have a double signing tomorrow or wednesday!
krissyboy31 Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Stock, Danns,Fonté,Ward ...nope no right backs in there. One thing a Swiss banker cannot stand...spending money with no results to show for it, it's their motto. I'm pretty sure Thomas is being moved on and Trotman as already gone back to Preston. Perry and Jaidi can only play a certain amount of games (and if we are to make the Play-offs and progress in the JPT and FA Cup, we've still got sh!t loads to play). 4 proper centre backs (and I don't include Lancashire or Martin yet in that) is a necessity for us to go all the way.
Window Cleaner Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 I think he is happy with Murty and James - two players he mentions a lot in interviews Nobody can be happy with Murty (although it's not his fault) 5 league starts from 24 isn't a core player statistic. Still James may be up to the job, just that a lot of people who know about football say he isn't.
Toadhall Saint Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 I thought AP spoke of just a couple more players in his Solent interview(after Fonté had signed). I thought it was 2 maybe 3 with one a midfielder.
John B Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 I thought it was 2 maybe 3 with one a midfielder. Two according to this http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4843345.Pardew_wants_more_signings___and_to_keep_his_own_stars/?ref=rss
topo Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Thanks - how's Cranie doing? It would seem he is further up the pecking order than Ward. I like Cranie, very versatile so far he’s played Right Back, Centre Back & Left Back. If he plays tomorrow it will be Left Back as we are a little short in that position. Had his best game at Centre Back IMHO. Not sure where Coleman’s going to fit him in once we sort out the left back problem, but he’s young plenty of time to establish himself.
John B Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 my guess at mo would be Ward and Stock. Where has the Stock story come from? He has been injured and not played much recently I thought
Saint_clark Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 The actual quote from Pardew on Solent was "I wanted to bring in two players to replace the two we've lost" (Mellis and Trotman) "so we need a midfielder, and then maybe an extra". So that's Fonte, a midfielder and then "maybe an extra".
NickG Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Where has the Stock story come from? He has been injured and not played much recently I thought his facebook account?
Window Cleaner Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 my guess at mo would be Ward and Stock. I'm very wary of Stock, sometimes serious ankle injuries take a long time to really heal. I certainly wouldn't pay a lot of money for him just now, loan at best is all he'd get from me...not that it matters. If he can be replaced at Donny by Gillett well...
krissyboy31 Posted 11 January, 2010 Posted 11 January, 2010 Two according to this http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4843345.Pardew_wants_more_signings___and_to_keep_his_own_stars/?ref=rss He said 2 plus likely to take a punt on another. He did say that he doubted he would bring in any more unless he could off load some of the other fringe players.

Sounds as if he's doing well for you just needs to nail down a position for himself. Good luck tomorrow against that lot down the road from here.
