Elliot Ward - The Story!

Not sure Hammond and Schneiderlin can play together? Not exactly bossing the midfield week in week out are they!?

I don't think that's a problem with the two of them as a pair, more that they dont trust our centre backs to retain possesion so they keep coming deep to get the ball and then staying deep.

If we had a cultured ball playing centre back alongside Jaidi who could play from defence It would help Hammond and Schneiderlin and give us a bit more balance.

Most of our play goes straight over their heads because our defenders take the easy option and pump the ball to Lambert.

Was trying to think of cultured CBs the other day. Hard pressed to think of one in the championship let alone L1. Its one of those areas that you have to go foreign - thought JPS was fairly assured on the ball.

In the absence of one, Hammond and Schneiderlin have to come deep a la Safri. Hammond hasn't got the passing range to do the role and to the extent Schneiderlin can pick a pass, there's not enough movement in front of him to cause damage. Any club will that does its homework will know to cover the flanks for the cross field ball which is often the only option open to Schneiderlin.

As such I don't think Schneiderlin and Hammond are balanced. Neither has the pace or power to pass and move and break beyond defenders and take them out of position - so that even with a cultured CB, its unlikely that either would be a genuine outlet. It leaves us very reliant on the wings who are usually found with a slow-moving ball played square or bits and pieces breaking off Lambert. Our midfield desperately needs more movement and mobility.

''the rumour is he's on alot of money at are place and has had a spat with coleman he's certain to go somewhere in the next few months, but not trying to be a WUM or anything he is too good for League 1 and i would have thought he would join another championship team, i'm not certain how you lot are getting on this year but if you got promoted i could see it happening.

P.S Visited Portsmouth for the first time yesterday and it was like being in a time warp truely one of the most backward places and biggest holes i've ever been too.

I only want to sign players that previous clubs fans are sad to lose - ala Lambert and Hammond.

The best judge of a players ability are the fans that watch week in week out - if a player is not popular (from performances) at one club, he's unlikely to be popular here imo

BR fans dont seem to fussed about losing Lines - I say we therefore look elsewhere

Thierry Henry at Juventus? (or is that the exception that maybe proves the rule).

Actually, I think players can sometimes blossom from a change of scenery and that picking out the best-perfoming fans' favourites can sometimes cost a premium.

just had a text saying we had bid 300k for Ward (knew we had bid already, had no idea of how much) and that George Donnolly should sign during this window....the bloke we had on trial from Plymouth

no chap, SODJE, S.O.D.J.E = Happy now?

or am I still playing guess who?

Donnolly any good ?? And would this rule out a move for perhaps barnard or jackson ??

Still, as i said on previous thread, we need to sort the defensive side of the team, we can score goals already, and lots of them.

Lets stop wasting our time with antonio too, unless we can get him free and work on him.

you never saw me play. Your loss. Magestic. Kept mr surman quiet back in the day, so much so his dad tried to sign me to play with him. Enough of that. Oh and fyi, my source is probably useless. Has been wrong a lot before. Meh. Loving the 18yr old highland park though. The real s_s. Xxx

clarify the last of your sentance. i hate the word source, make me sound so, so, arrogant as if Im Alan Pardew himself, lets keep in general.

he is a work chum, who is now working with BOA but has ties with ex Palace staff, one of them is Steve Harrison who has something to do with Coventry.

either that or im making names up. the power of wisdom. shizam.

Cultured centre backs ? I'm struggling to get past Franz Beckenbaur and Bobby Moore' date=' may he rest in peace. Now there were two cultured CB's. I don't think they exist here anymore. If only.[/quote']

Except that neither of them were centre backs, midfielders both of them, although that terms hadn't yet been invented. Beckenbauer was a "libero" and Moore was a wing half.
