Andy_Porter Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 We should bid for that Simon Gillett chap at Doncaster? Gillett isn't anywhere near as good as Hammond or Schneiderlin, not a chance.
St.Patrik Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 have you got the link to the site? Here you go - in Swedish offcourse... http://www.svenskafans.com/england/artikel.asp?id=306097
Glasgow_Saint Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 Gillett isn't anywhere near as good as Hammond or Schneiderlin, not a chance. Not sure Hammond and Schneiderlin can play together? Not exactly bossing the midfield week in week out are they!?
pilsburydoughboy Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 If we had accepted Ray Ranson's SISU bid then chances are Elliott Ward would already be our player and this thread would be moot. You sir should lay off the heavy.
Andy_Porter Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 Not sure Hammond and Schneiderlin can play together? Not exactly bossing the midfield week in week out are they!? I don't think that's a problem with the two of them as a pair, more that they dont trust our centre backs to retain possesion so they keep coming deep to get the ball and then staying deep. If we had a cultured ball playing centre back alongside Jaidi who could play from defence It would help Hammond and Schneiderlin and give us a bit more balance. Most of our play goes straight over their heads because our defenders take the easy option and pump the ball to Lambert.

shurlock Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 (edited) I don't think that's a problem with the two of them as a pair, more that they dont trust our centre backs to retain possesion so they keep coming deep to get the ball and then staying deep. If we had a cultured ball playing centre back alongside Jaidi who could play from defence It would help Hammond and Schneiderlin and give us a bit more balance. Most of our play goes straight over their heads because our defenders take the easy option and pump the ball to Lambert. Was trying to think of cultured CBs the other day. Hard pressed to think of one in the championship let alone L1. Its one of those areas that you have to go foreign - thought JPS was fairly assured on the ball. In the absence of one, Hammond and Schneiderlin have to come deep a la Safri. Hammond hasn't got the passing range to do the role and to the extent Schneiderlin can pick a pass, there's not enough movement in front of him to cause damage. Any club will that does its homework will know to cover the flanks for the cross field ball which is often the only option open to Schneiderlin. As such I don't think Schneiderlin and Hammond are balanced. Neither has the pace or power to pass and move and break beyond defenders and take them out of position - so that even with a cultured CB, its unlikely that either would be a genuine outlet. It leaves us very reliant on the wings who are usually found with a slow-moving ball played square or bits and pieces breaking off Lambert. Our midfield desperately needs more movement and mobility. St_Tel49 Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 Always one or two exceptions, but fans reactions/opinions of players is generally a very good gauge of a players ability. Depends on who the fan is. My opinions are always impeccable - not so sure about yours though ;-)
Jimmy Gabriel's Halo Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 Cultured centre backs ? I'm struggling to get past Franz Beckenbaur and Bobby Moore, may he rest in peace. Now there were two cultured CB's. I don't think they exist here anymore. If only.

S-Clarke Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 More info on Elliott from a Cov fan - ''the rumour is he's on alot of money at are place and has had a spat with coleman he's certain to go somewhere in the next few months, but not trying to be a WUM or anything he is too good for League 1 and i would have thought he would join another championship team, i'm not certain how you lot are getting on this year but if you got promoted i could see it happening. P.S Visited Portsmouth for the first time yesterday and it was like being in a time warp truely one of the most backward places and biggest holes i've ever been too. PUSB''
Jimmy Gabriel's Halo Posted 3 January, 2010 Posted 3 January, 2010 How quickly you forget Claus Lundekvam! Shame on you Jimmy G Yeah but you and I are biased aren't we... By the way, have you a mate called Rob in Southampton who sells CD's part time ?
Saint_clark Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 £300k As the second bid, yes - which is what Pardew is expecting Coleman to want for him. I have to say if the first bid of £150k had been accepted I might have just had a minor orgasm at the absolute bargain we'd have got.
SaintBobby Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 I only want to sign players that previous clubs fans are sad to lose - ala Lambert and Hammond. The best judge of a players ability are the fans that watch week in week out - if a player is not popular (from performances) at one club, he's unlikely to be popular here imo BR fans dont seem to fussed about losing Lines - I say we therefore look elsewhere Thierry Henry at Juventus? (or is that the exception that maybe proves the rule). Actually, I think players can sometimes blossom from a change of scenery and that picking out the best-perfoming fans' favourites can sometimes cost a premium.
saint_stevo Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 just had a text saying we had bid 300k for Ward (knew we had bid already, had no idea of how much) and that George Donnolly should sign during this window....the bloke we had on trial from Plymouth
Tac-tics Posted 4 January, 2010 Author Posted 4 January, 2010 just had a text saying we had bid 300k for Ward (knew we had bid already, had no idea of how much) and that George Donnolly should sign during this window....the bloke we had on trial from Plymouth no chap, SODJE, S.O.D.J.E = Happy now? or am I still playing guess who?
Smirking_Saint Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 Donnolly any good ?? And would this rule out a move for perhaps barnard or jackson ?? Still, as i said on previous thread, we need to sort the defensive side of the team, we can score goals already, and lots of them. Lets stop wasting our time with antonio too, unless we can get him free and work on him.
saint_stevo Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 Antonio is tripe. I am better and i have an OAP knee.
saint_stevo Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 no chap, SODJE, S.O.D.J.E = Happy now? or am I still playing guess who? Has he signed yet?

Enough of that. Oh and fyi, my source is probably useless. Has been wrong a lot before. Meh. Loving the 18yr old highland park though. The real s_s. Xxx
saint_stevo Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 I have no idea what this post means, i'll admit it...carsten jancker and junior agogo. Keep up. Tac-tics theory of if i spout enough sheeyite, some might stick.....

saint_stevo Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 What's the news from your contact tac-tics? he or she may or may not sign before february
Tac-tics Posted 4 January, 2010 Author Posted 4 January, 2010 as long as i got tissues i can release my issues. All in good time my dear. Unless your source on this is elliots brother Hospital kleenex are softer on the skin. clarify the last of your sentance. i hate the word source, make me sound so, so, arrogant as if Im Alan Pardew himself, lets keep in general. he is a work chum, who is now working with BOA but has ties with ex Palace staff, one of them is Steve Harrison who has something to do with Coventry. either that or im making names up. the power of wisdom. shizam.
Saint_clark Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 I'm amazed at how twisted this thread has become in the half an hour I was away

Now there were two cultured CB's. I don't think they exist here anymore. SaintRichmond Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 Porter my friend, you may have a point! How cultured is this Elliott chap? Went for electrocution lessons at Eton, innit ??

hutch Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 Full information. Steve Hutchinson is the man who has confirmed it, Saints have made a "firm" offer which will be reviewed early this week. He is my second *source* the conversation was more about the Pompey game but has confirmed a "firm" offer has been made. Not guilty
CWD Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 I heard 400k, just to be petty lol Donnolly, donnelly, does it matter ?? No stevo, you weren't with two good knees !!!! Yes it bloody does! Donnelly is my surname and im sick of people spelling it wrong:p Dont really want him to sign as it will look stupid if i have my own name on my shirt... Ward looks like a CRACKING signing though
RonManager Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 Donnelly, Connolly, Lambert and Ward, Sounds like the roll call at Trumpton fire station.
david in sweden Posted 4 January, 2010 Posted 4 January, 2010 Not sure Hammond and Schneiderlin can play together? Not exactly bossing the midfield week in week out are they!? It would seem so. I think we should play both of them, maybe in another role....and another formation ?
