Elliot Ward - The Story!

using the term `concrete offer' suggests that we have at least scouted and possibily enquired about his availability etc.

No doubt, but AP said we had put a couple of bids in, Lenny Lawrence says he's definitely had no concrete offer from us. What that means I have no real idea. We've bid for someone, BR say it isn't Lines...

Anyway I really don't think midfield is a priority we need a RB and a CB at least.

If we have a real RB it frees up James to reinforce midfield when necessary.

It could be that Lines is just using us to get a better deal, wouldn't be the first time it's happened would it.

if that is the case..why are we bothering...I dont want us to sign mid table league 1 players who are at their peak and can only go down hill

Football is a squad game now, we need a group of 18~ players who are good enough to step into the starting eleven. If Morgan breaks a leg on Saturday then we will have no chance of making the play offs, can't rely on Lloyd James to come in and do Schneiderlins job for six months.

I only want to sign players that previous clubs fans are sad to lose - ala Lambert and Hammond.

The best judge of a players ability are the fans that watch week in week out - if a player is not popular (from performances) at one club, he's unlikely to be popular here imo

BR fans dont seem to fussed about losing Lines - I say we therefore look elsewhere

What happened to the Torpedo ?

Anyone know

Regards

Morph

he was playing in Venezuela; don't know if he still is though.

Before you ask, I have a distant cousin in Caracas who writes me sometimes, his grandad played for Chile in the 62 word cup but he was one of my gran's brother in laws.

I don't think Lines would be AP's first choice otherwise a firm offer would have been placed by now. I would not expect to see one go in until the end of the week depending on the outcome of the two firm offers AP has already eluded to.

Oh come on that is such blinkered view. First what if the fans love a club stalwart but isnt that good? Ormerod/Benali etc?

Secondly plenty of fans slate their own players who do well at other clubs.

I see Delap is still playing the Premier league.................

Always one or two exceptions, but fans reactions/opinions of players is generally a very good gauge of a players ability.

Ormerod seems to be doing the biz in the ccc.....reckon we should try a cheeky 650k or loan bid for carsley

Dont get me wrong he's good at CCC level but the Premier was a little too much in my opinion. Rather like Shaun Goater - absolutely smashed them in the lower leagues but was found out in the Premier easily enough.

Who were we more disappointed to lose: Beattie or Fuller?

Who do Stoke fans now rate as much better?

I don't think many fans liked Fuller and for us Beattie was much better. I'm just saying some players have potential but it is only when they move to certain clubs that play a certain way that this is realised. Having said that, I am initially underwhelmed should we sign Lines. I think we are in need of a DM to play alongside Hammond with Morgan coming off the bench.

The way AP has been talking it seems that the priorities are replacements for the loanees we've lost i.e Trotman so Ward makes sense.

That would suggest we're after somebody in the Mellis mould - a bustling, ball-playing midfielder. Yesterday again showed that with Hammond and Schneiderlin's tendency to sit back, there isn't that drive or movement in the middle that can sometimes get beyond the forwards.

Interesting that Gobern has seen alot more playing time in the middle of late. While he's got bags of potential, he's far from the finished article. But the fact that AP is willing to throw Gobern in there suggests its an important area of the pitch and somewhere AP might seek to strenghten.

Agreed. I can see him fitting into a 4-5-1 system. Like you say, neither Morgan or Hammond really run at players. So this guy offers another option for us, and a different threat to the opposition. Not to mention, the fact that he's 6'2", which fits in with our newly formed team of giants!

Isn't Lines a passing, playmaking midfielder - i.e. someone to take over Morgans role and teach him?

I've been chatting to a few Gasheads and they're more than happy that we're taking him.

I've seen him and he's not exactly brilliant (or good for that matter). If anything Morgan will be teaching him a lot.

On the other hand, AP hasn't got much wrong yet in the transfer market and I trust him completely

There's been about 5 exceptions made on this thread alone... all from our club... If the same was said for every club in the league I think "a few exceptions" is a little underestimation, don't you?

Full information.

Steve Hutchinson is the man who has confirmed it, Saints have made a "firm" offer which will be reviewed early this week.

He is my second *source* the conversation was more about the Pompey game but has confirmed a "firm" offer has been made.

Full information about what? Must be missing a couple of posts.

Only Steve Hutchinson I know is an O Lineman with the Brett Favre Vikings.

All I can add to this post is 'Ain't I glad we didn't go after Earnshaw. Did you see his penalty miss on TV last night? What a waste of space!

scored six goals in the last eight games for Forrest. Who'd want a player in that sort of form?

Ward would be a great signing. Remember he was a beast at the back for Plymouth when they were a mid-table Championship side. Scores goals as well.

Would be a very similar player to Trotman IMO, a worthy replacement and the exact standard that Pardew should be looking to try and get into the club.

However we should also be wary about not letting players go. Ensuring the likes of Lallana and Schniederlin will stick around next season for a probable 2nd season in League 1 is paramount to next seasons success.
