Elliot Ward - The Story!

The the twitter guy is a knobhead.

Depends really.

Elliot Ward hasn't yet signed so Sky are wrong to say he has signed. If there are still contractual issues then Sky have got it wrong and Ward is still a Cov player. Lots of things can still go wrong.

If the Twitter guy is told "you will have first notice of any signings" and he/she hasn't, then he's not a knobhead.

Personally I think we're all being a bit impatient and need to let things happen in their own time.

It was on again this morning, saying he has signed on an 18month deal. Must be official soon.

We have seen plenty of stuff fall through at the last moment so i want to see it on the osw before i make my mind up

It's only sky sources saying this

Length of deal may be a sticking point..Structure of deal and wages with player/agent.

Club would want longer....Maybe the 18 months alleged is good for player as a get out if we do not move up...course we will... Just a thought.....Fonte signed 3 and half and that is about what Saints would want from Ward..If he is to sign....More negotiations.

I must admit im quite disappointed that this hasnt gone through yet. If Tac-Tics is to be believed (which I think he is) then the first movement with regards to Ward was on the 3rd which is 10 days ago now. That coupled with the fact that the Seaborne rumour is gathering pace, suggests to me that the club are not confident that the Ward transfer will go ahead.

I hope im proved wrong!

Something in what is rumoured about all these CBs could not be true, unless there are other things going on which we don't know about. With 4 CBs already at the club I can't see AP signing another 3 (Fonte, Ward, Seaborn). Tac-tics usually have good sources, so that accounts for Ward, but if there is to be any truth in the Seaborn gossip, then surely there must be some movement out as well, probably Perry and Thomas, and maybe Lancashire as well.

So, maybe, the lack of confirmation is about a larger game of chess, where contracts may be agreed, but not signed until there is some other movement, such as Ward will be announced when Thomas' departure is confirmed.

I can't imagine NC entertaining the idea to pay for 7 CBs "just in case". We already know that the squad is far too big.

I seriously hope you two are talking about Ward and not myself.

Indeed I did. Your sources have been good. I can accept, although with some difficulty, that with Fonte and Ward arriving we have already decided that Perry and Thomas will be gone by the summer when their contracts run out, as I think they are. But I cannot believe that we would be signing Seaborne as well with the two of them still here.

Maybe the reports on Seaborne are there to push the ward deal through. Isnt Ward a Saints fan? If so surly as a Saints fan he might want to be involved in our march back up the leagues so this may push him to not hold out for a better deal or maybe agree to a longer deal or something?

Maybe Cov are stalling and will now be made to think that if we go elsewheree they will still be stuck with a player they dont play?

Maybe the rumours are there because we are now one of the richer clubs in the land and will just get linked with everyone if we are looking or not?

I cant see anyone snapping up Thomas, Perry or Olly on anything other than loans and maybe the powers that be have realised that if they want a stronger defence then they will have to pay for up to 7 defenders until some contracts run out. Seems like a mad business decision but this 1st ear will no doubt be a steep learning curve for ML and NC so im sure we can expect some mistakes along the way. I just hope they are genuine ones and not ones of madness.

I think it's a more innocent reason in that they are just waiting for AP to get back from Spain so they can do a traditional unveiling and interviews etc.

The Spain trip was last minute due to weather. If they hadn't gone then it would have been announced yesterday, IMO.

That might, of course, be a possibility. NC/ML have not proven themselves to be mad spendthrifts so far, which I am very happy with. There is a problem which is very difficult to deal with, and that is what to do with all the players in the squad who haven't got a future here, but that nobody else want either. We can't just go on adding to that pool. I have said before, and will do so again, that there is a very difficult decision to make here: Do we have to pay up the contracts of those we need to shift, or keep on paying them?

The second alternative is not a good one, because players who know that they have no future don't contribute to the right mentality of the team, apart from possibly Wotton and Perry in the capacity of old, scarred pros who have someting to pass on to the youngsters. I think that the big decision needs to be arrived at after this transfer widow, after which every employed person in the club have exactly the same goal, the success of the club.
