As usual this one on paper should be a sure-fire Saints win, however if there's a team that could cause an upset, I think its Luton as they have some decent players. Craddock is a forward in form and they have a decent QPR striker on loan who is doing the business too. They have nothing to lose with this, so I cannot see them coming here to shut up shop in the first half certainly. As normal with Saints, if we can keep a clean sheet to half-time, they should start to tire earlier and we'll come away with it. If they score early it could prove to be another slog to get back into the game. Prediction : Saints 2 - Luton 1. COYS!

Sam Argent, each time I see him the reserves, impresses me. He's a dedicated RB and we need one of those to fill in for Murty, freeing up Lloydy for midfield. Trotters may as well play for us (if allowed). Aaron Martin deserves to get a game. Gobern and Holmes deserve to get a game, too. Wotton is right for this - a bit of steel among the young players. You're right. Furthermore it doesn't do anything for the "winning attitude" to go and lose winnable games. I hope that the time when we kept losing against substandard opposition with our management team coming up with ready made excuses have been forever consigned to history. It's only playing to win that matters.

True story: went with a friend to see Luton v Plymouth about 4 or 5 seasons ago - it ended 1-1 and their number 1 goalkeeper at the time, Larrieu (sp?), was recovering from injury and ended up sitting next to us - and on the way in I asked a female police officer if there was a bin anywhere for my pastie wrapper. She replied "take your pick mate, this whole place is a bin". "Not a fan of Luton I take it?" I replied cheekily. "Put it this way" she said, "I put in a transfer request a year ago, when the waiting time for a transfer out of this dump of a town was about 5 years. That's how much we love it!"

Saints were up at half time (I think 0-2 but not certain) and that ridiculous "Easy" chant. They came out and hammered us second half and won the match. Different time, different circumstances but nonetheless a cautionary reminder of the dangers of underestimating teams. Another reason for playing our strongest team; it was reported there were words in the dressing room after Colchester. I suggest giving as many as possible of those that played against Colchester the opportunity to put right what went wrong in that defeat. Bigger picture; it's the third round of the FA Cup, the best round of the competition. Is there no romance left in football? Let's not devalue it by playing a weakened side.

AP said he was looking to extend Antonio's loan to the end of the season and as he has already played for us in the FA cup, there shouldn't be any problem playing him tomorrow.

Will do us more good!. lol First year in Ch'ship was riddled with "Easy" chants that came back to haunt us by the end of the game.... The Leeds 3-4 being just about the most humiliating.

I was right behind it as it thundered into the top corner late in the game. The Oak Road away end just has to be the worst stand in English football. In fact the whole ground takes your breath away, it's so run down. I also sat amongst the home fans when we drew 1-1 there in the FA Cup in the early 90s, Shipperley scoring our goal, before humping them 6-0 in the replay. Took great delight in that as my mum's side of the family are all Hatters fans. Looking forward to another rout tomorrow although I think it will be dicey.

Neil Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Play the strongest team possible, we want to continue progressing on three fronts, and it seems that AP agrees judging by his comments. As already said, we've got a free week until the next game (which is at home, so no real travelling), and then another free week until the relatively short journey to Millwall. It's the second half of January that gets a bit more hectic. For the moment I'd hope that some of the players may be able to gain some confidence from beating Luton and playing well.
