What's a winding up petition? Serious question.

They want the court to close Pompey down and sell the assets off so they get the money they are owed.

 That's just a link to the main sports page?

It has it in breaking news up the top on the ticker. HTH.

Who are 'they'? And is the end nigh for the blue few?

It is when somebody who is owed some money by a debtor who is unable to pay it within the agreed terms petitions for the business to be wound-up and asset-stripped so they can get what is owed to them.

HMRC. They will sort this bit out I expect. It's just postponing the inevitable though I feel.

Far worse than administration...

Indeed. I'm no expert on these matters but I believe that it all then comes down to a high-court ruling rather than an agreement between the two parties, and voluntary administration is no longer an option. I could be wrong on that though, can anybody clarify?

I think you're right. Do they not get put into Cumpulsory Liquidation?

Southend have just been through this. Once threatened by HMRC they moved heaven and earth and after a week's extension, coughed up thanks to a benefactor. IIRC they owed £250,000.

if its is hmrc it has become very serious and for them to put a petition to the court it could be beyond any comong back, with administration you can carriny on trading but with a peition there is no compan to trade

This is a fake version of the BBC website. Ignore and close this thread/change title.

What makes you come to that conclusion?

And cheers to those who cleared up what it was all about, I don't have a degree in economics or whatever, and I've never had a debt in my life. All this stuff is new to me ;)

Looking grim for the skates then.

I guess it shows that the short sightend view of the here and now glory glory is not worth it all the time.

So much money on wages etc how did they expect things to turn out?

I guess the Pompey fan (singular) is feeling pretty bummed. Like us when things were looking really bad. I almost feel for it - I don't want them to fold completely, some of their fans might try to cross the boundary and I don't like riff raff.

The second news snippet on the bbc says that 2 men are taking charge of Bolton... Steve Wigley being 1 of the 2. Yikes.
