The return of Mr Pericard

One bad pass or missed shot and he will become the boo boy just like Fuller

if we do sign him it's probably Pardews first big mistake

it will be a bad move both for the player and the club

I was hoping for Pitman or maybe someone like Healy on loan

I have been told Pitman would love to sign for us but there is doubt over his work rate. He disappears for long periods of the game and a risk taking on at a higher level. Also the asking price of £800,000 is much to high in my opinion

I can't understand all the negativity on here- have any of you seen the goal he set up for Carlisle v Everton in the FA Cup- quality touch. You are the same fans that got on Crouch's back when he first came and boo'ed Fuller and Euell- I don't see why you can't give the guy a chance- he was on the books for Juventus for f****s sake- if you all know so much about what makes a great player, why aren't you all working in the game instead of just being fans! Rant over

what a load of ****e. So for the first time in years we have earned 38 points half way through a season, enough to put us in the play offs if it wasn't for the ****s in charge, and we have a team that could buy a win for the first 10 games so this is all on recent form, all pointing to an excellent management team, who think that Pericard might be able to do a job for us.

so why the **** can't we trust them in that case. Jesus

Sorry I don't get excited about signing average backup players, just incase our best player gets injured. What message does this give the team?

You're doing 'alright - not great, just ok' BUT carry on regardless.

What our team needed this Jan was a kick up the backside and competition for places will deliver that hard and fast. This team has a potential to be an 8.5/10 in L1 but its playing at maybe 4.5/10. Signing average 'backup' aint gunna change that.

You appear to know very little about football in general. Thank god we have Pardew in charge and not you. Although I suspect you disagree with that and want Pardew out now on the basis of signing Pericard (which we f*cking haven't yet???????)

My god some Carlisle fans are stupid. :D

Looking at the Saints message boards none of them seem to want him and think Pardew has signed him as back up for 1 million pound striker Rickie Lambert.

What a nice luxury for a club that hasn't got a pot to **** in.

Have they not realised that something may have changed from when Saints were in administration which means they have the funds to buy players for £1m? i.e. a takeover from a billionaire

He states Saints spent £1m yet thinks they are poor.

I'd be happy with Pericard to come in as back up for Lambert. If it means we can send Paterson off on loan to a league two side where he can get 15-20 games under his belt before next season then it's even better.

A striker like Bernard would be there to replace Saganowski and give Connolly some competition and a bit of cover.

Do you mean Barnard?

I think all these sh*te ex-players are getting to your head.

With the greatest respect - to improve on Rickie in L1, that we can get hold of, and not be held to ransom, can you offer any suggestions? I get your point, but I can't think of a realistic, better 30 goals a season that would join us this Jan to significantly improve on the big man (but yup, I'd prefer Barnard to Pericard!)

Your point appears to be that there aren't any better strikers out there than Rickie Lambert. There are plenty of CCC attackers who could do well - though about it seems like about half of them have already played for us.

To have a chance of improving on him we'll have to pay decent wages, but that's precisely what we've done so far ?

There are players at a higher level who CDAJFU and wouldn't cost the earth too. I'd sign Kevin Phillips, personally. Cue bile.

If we're going to sign a striker like Phillips I'd rather get in someone young, we've already got Connolly no point getting another oldie in.

Sounds like it's happening then. Of course Pards has confirmed two bids so seeing as this would be a free transfer does it count as one of them??

Maybe the bids are for Ward and Stock and Pericard is additional? Please. And don't stop their either. Barnard would be good too. And a right back. Or is that plain greedy?

I can't see what Saints can gain by adding a striker who has only scored four league goals this season. Whoever joins us upfront needs to be significantly more prolific in the remaining games.

Who would make way for him? He's not a wide player is he? Adam, Connolly, and Waigo have scored more this season, and Hammond has also scored three league and one cup goal.

No way, imo.

His contract with Carlisle does not expire until 12th Jan according to Sky so he will not likely join us until after that, if we are the L1 club he intends joining.

he has a week left on his contract. Assume he has said he wants to come he and we want him.

They can either say no, he has to wait a week unless you pay a fee, or they let him go.

Sure they would let him leave.

Seems to be taking a while...........

Post 87 on this thread could be a clue as to why.

don't see why that would delay it - he could easily be released, or even agreement reached before that date

As he is contracted to Carlisle until the 12th they would want him available for every game possible. Why would Carlisle release him early when they don't have to? Saints would be getting him on a free at end of a short term 3 month contract he signed in October that expires in January. They are NOT buying him.

(may change now their game is off)

Carlisle don't play until 16th.

As I said it may change now their game is off.

Would they want to play him anyway if he has already agreed to play for another team - no.

He has been a very important player to them. They have a small squad. He is still under contract and should be professional. Hundreds of players have signed deals with other clubs and continued playing.

If we want him, and he wants to come - that date is irrelevant

The date is relevant because unless Carlisle decide otherwise he is a Carlisle player until 12th January. Nothing Saints or Pericard can do about it.

We will soon find out if he's coming to us, by the sounds of things...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/carlisle_united/8454246.stm

which goes to show that for a player like Pericard there is no loyalty to any club that offers him a helping hand, just greed and moving on up.What do you expect he took Juventus's pieces of silver against all logic and look where it got him...Carlisle United for 6 months, poetic justice really. He had played just 2 first team games for St E and they thought he had really let them down..

I can't see it being him given AP's comments on sat - replace what we have lost Trottman & Mellis and maybe go for A N Other that is not having the best of times at his present club.

Now to me Pericard doesn't fit with any of the above unless he is a good midfielder and is/was haveing a bad time at Carlisle.

"Six goals in 15 games for Carlisle have seen Pericard rebuild his reputation"

So 'this season' is not 25+ games its 15 and his two goals in cup games don't count as goals? I reckon 6 goals in 15 games is around 20 in a season - not bad generally but not good enough for an ex-p****y player?

Im not so sure why people are so relieved he has not signed for us, if we were looking for a backup striker he'd be perfect IMO and why not offer him a 6 month contract if we have doubts about him making the step up next season like we did with JO and it would motivate him like it did when he was playing for Carlisle. At the end of the day for all those who have slagged him off, he has gone to a team who are above us in the league, in a playoff position with 2 games in hand over the majority of those competing for the places, so he can't be all that bad.

Perhaps there's a connection with the alledged Mifsud appearance.

That wouldn't be ironic.

irony (plural ironies)

1. A statement that, when taken in context, may actually mean the opposite of what is written literally; the use of words expressing something other than their literal intention, notably as a form of humor.

2. (colloquial) The quality or state of an event being both coincidental and contradictory in a humorous or poignant and extremely improbable way.

3. Being linked to the transfer of a forward, who subsequently signs for a rival team from the south and who then goes on to score against the team he was originally linked to.

Let's hope he doesn't end up scoring at SMS in March........ I hate football irony.

I don't think it used to be irony. It was what happened all the time for Saints. SMS has been the place to go if you were badly down on your luck. Here the wins could be produced that couldn't be produced anywhere else. But that had something to do with the attitude which permeated the place for years. It has started to lift and the expectations are no longer about these old predictable things, but on winning. If we win 3-1 again and Pericard gets the one? What, me worried?
