Pancake Posted 12 January, 2010 Share Posted 12 January, 2010 If I'm busy doing something on the phone - sending an email or 'on the net' and receive a text, I would very much like to 'minimise' what I'm doing to send a reply, and then resume once I'm done.... Not a huge ask, and I'm hopeful this will be resolved in the next software update, but for now it is a little annoying..... Really, it cant do that? Thats odd as the iPod Touch does basically what you are asking there. Say Im typing a post on SWF and I get an email, all I do is click the "home" button, read y email and then click Safari again and bosh, Im back in the middle of typing my post on here. Ditto for Facebook, Echofon, email etc too...

sotonjoe Posted 12 January, 2010 Share Posted 12 January, 2010 Enter the world of Jailbreaking, then you can run Apps in the background, trick it into thinking you're on wi-fi to watch BBC iPlayer and Sky Sports etc., customise the look, feel, add folders, Five Apps in launch bar, and much more. JBing was the second best thing I did... after buying the iPhone in the first place. Blackra1n is the easiest way to do this. Sounds like stuff which the Andriod OS can do by default and, as I've already said, the latest 3gs handsets don't work with the current jailbreaking methods according to other forums on the interweb. sotonjoe Posted 16 January, 2010 Share Posted 16 January, 2010 I'm not sure you guys understand me re the Iphone 3gs and jailbreraking. I'm referring to the latest revision of the 3gs. You can tell whether you have one of these by checking to see if the 4th and 5th digit in the serial number is 40 or above. These phones are affected by a changed bootrom from build week 40 (digits 4/5 are the manufacture week No apparently) which means you have to reconnect to a PC everytime you power down if you've jailbroken the device. Therefore, your advice that people should buy a new iphone with the expectation that it can be jailbroken is a little off the mark. You should also be pointing out the fact that the warranty will be null and void by tampering with the handset in this way, and that other phones offer a significant degree of customisation without the need for hacking in this way. EBS1980 Posted 17 January, 2010 Author Share Posted 17 January, 2010 Whats the difference between the older 3g iPhone and the newer 3gs iPhone? Is the newer one worth the extra price?
sotonjoe Posted 17 January, 2010 Share Posted 17 January, 2010 Whats the difference between the older 3g iPhone and the newer 3gs iPhone? Is the newer one worth the extra price? The Apple site will confirm but it comes down to processor, camera quality, added video camera on 3gs, a compass, amount of storage and voice control

Essruu Posted 21 January, 2010 Share Posted 21 January, 2010 Airplane Mode, no network, no wifi, brightness down, not listening to the iPod or watching YouPorn, and not constantly using it... yeah, as a survival tool this is easily achievable IMO. Maybe, but, I reckon, if I was buried in an earthquake, with little hope of rescue, YouPorn would take quite a battering.
