Pilchards Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 (edited) This will be where the game will be won. Boothroyd has a great record against the Saints but does he have a good one against Pardew. I can only think of Perry and Thomas that have been in the team against Boothroyd so other than that it should be a new experience for our newbies. What do you think? ericofarabia Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 I was going to start a similar sort of fred. I don't think we've ever avoided letting in less than 3 goals home or away against him when he was at Watford Time to turn the tables and dish out one of our 3-1 spankings Maybe we could print off some of the old stylee calling cards like back in the dark old days ' congrats you've just been done by The Bushwackers/Treatment/ICF' etc but with 'Congrats you've just been spanked 3-1 by Pardews Red and White Army' He has obviously made their home ground a fortress P10 W8 D1 L1 only 7 goals conceded...... so I'll settle for 1-0 but 3-1 would be so much better

I would have thought that at least James and Lallana would have participated in the 3-0 home loss debacle against Watford last year. I don't think Pardew vs Boothroyd has any particular importance to be honest. Both will send out their best available team with a tried and tested game plan.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 Boothroyd is doing wonders at Colchester - joined when the club could have gone in decline - They lost some best players (+captain) and manager in a few days, lots of discontent amongst fans (re ambition of club) ect ect but Boothroyd came in steadied the ship and now has every player playing above there potential. He would be ahead of AP for manager of the year if poll was done now.

That's where I think you are wrong, it's the team they choose to beat the others weaknesses and plus it's the formation from the off. If we set it up as a 4-5-1 then I believe we will soak the pressure and hit them hard in the last 20 minutes if the score 0-0.
hypochondriac Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 Boothroyd is an excellent manager. I wanted him at saints. Wouldnt hav minded billy davis either
doddisalegend Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 Boothroyd was in charge for the 0-0 at St Mary's earlier in the season, Colchester where crap that day ( they where one man down HTH) and how we didn't score is beyond me. They were doing well before Boothroyd turned up (7-1 against Norwhich) so I'd execpected them to be better when they came to St Marys. I think we are both different teams now but I reckon we can get something from todays game.

Boothroyd was 2 days in the job and the had just sold the heart of there side (Captain to us). We should have won that day but alas we l blew it! From my perspective Boothroyd took a day to settle and produce results - AP took BIG £spending and 10 games

He was part of Lambert's system, may have not impressed Boothroyd to the same extent. New manager, new captain, clean slate.

SNSUN Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 John-Joe O'Toole was an excellent capture in League One, and it shows how important it can be to have a manager with contacts. Pardew has these, so I'm looking forward to the next few years.
Toadhall Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 I've always liked Boothroyd but his penchant for long ball footie puts me off in the end.
saintkiptanui Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 Shut the fook up, the game will be won by the players, gimplesticks.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 Shut the fook up, the game will be won by the players, gimplesticks. managers decide which players

Thedelldays Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 I've always liked Boothroyd but his penchant for long ball footie puts me off in the end. Like billy davies fabled long ball
Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 1 nil Boothroyd so far! AP needs to do something quick!
Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 Boothroyd proves to be the better manager - on paper the U's are alot weaker than us. However....................
Wildgoose Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 In response to the OP I read somewhere that Boothrooyd has outdone AP in every meeting they have had so far.....sadly including today. Maybe someone can confirm that just out of interest? I am still very happy with AP and with Saints this season. Would have loved to have got something out of the Leeds and Colchester games but we will still be up there in and around the playoffs come the end of the season I think......

Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 Lol, you should be on the stage. I do, do a bit of stand-up!
OldNick Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 I do, do a bit of stand-up! I would love to watch it....but i dont get the alternative stuff
Neilza Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 I'd rather have a season ticket at Saints than colchester. Colchester were effective and organised but when they got one up switched to boring, timewasting, kicking us, diving themselves (somehow went unpunished!) and just playing hoof crap.

Neilza Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 edited. It wasnt easy?? It was 1-0 for 75 mins with them scoring the second on the break, whatever your opinion is on Pardew, I was merely stating I would much rather watch Pardews team win games regularly than Boothroyd

Glasgow_Saint Posted 28 December, 2009 Posted 28 December, 2009 Well if we had Boothroyd instead of Pardew perhaps we could be in the play offs by now We will never know I guess! I have nothing against AP, but facts remain - he has some very good players, playing like average ones. Boothy on the other hand has some very average players, playing like very good ones.

Because maybe that's what you need to get out of this league. Our defence is catastrophic, hoofing to 5ft 3" ferraris up front will catch us time and time again especially down our right side.

Where as Pardew does not seem to bother with players like Gillett Saga and Holmes Would not want Boothroyd in the Premiership though

Where as Pardew does not seem to bother with players like Gillett Saga and Holmes Would not want Boothroyd in the Premiership though It's easier to buy players, playing well (ala Hammond and Lambert) than work with what you have and try and get the most out of them.
