We didn't play well today and still won 3-1! Started with the long ball and the actually started to play football after about 15 mins. When we passed the ball we were the much better team. Took our foot off the gas though and let Exeter score. Waigo should have come on much earlier - as should Wotton. Lallana and Connolly were the real stars today and along with Waigo stood out as being too good for this division.

Lambert was disappointing again!

Bart. Made a great save down at his near post but that apart flapped at a cross or two again, and kicking was woeful. I will be much happier when KD is back.

Okay, need one more.

Your call Arizona but you could probably leave out Bart

Not really, I couldn't get there today. :(

Sorry that was 2002, we then went on the following week to stuff them 4-1 I think in the third round of the F.A. Cup.

You're thinking of new years day 2003.

I could play better then Antonio. He should not be starting!!!

Nervy game, even at 2-0 you thought if Exeter got a goal it would shake things up. And it did. Thankfully Wiago proved he can finish yet again to give us the breathing space. Strange sub though, should have taken Antonio off and left Mills on.

None of us is to blame. We are all accountable.

I remember when England won the Ashes under Vaughan, it was the much maligned Ahsley Giles whose runs helped to win the urn... That's the great thing about our team, different players are willing to step up each game.

Antonio is a funny player, in some ways you can see why he starts, because his direct running style opens up space and creates chances.

but that's all he seems to offer (erratically)...and once teams suss that out (i.e by doubling up on him), he'll be invisible.

Another good win despite times when we went missing as a team.

Fantastic crowd of 30,000 plus and we never messed it up this time.

As well as the three goals we hit the bar (Connolly) and the post (Lambert).

Exeter played some good passing football but their goal came from a quick kick whilst we were sleeping. They nearly did it again late on. We must be sharp and aware in these situations.

Never looked like losing.

This comment coupled with your other one in the playoff chance thread is quite a departure from what you said last week:

Nope, I have been saying for a while that we are not good enough yet. This result proves it.

Some good football this season and I can't argue with the entertainment value at times and the great run of results but this team will fall short in the promotion stakes this season because of the -10 points and our poor start.

What's prompted such a big turnaround?

poor game

good win

so much improvement over last season where often did the opposite.

although the crowd was great in numbers many of the kids near me were not interested in fact the one sat next to me cried each time we scored, his dad said he did not like the noise.

I cry every time we score, too - tears of relief.

Been away doing completely different things today. Picked up a bug from somewhere too, so the nose is treaming a bit. I'll just drown it in alcohol. Anyway, enough excuses...

I gather the lads didn't play that brilliantly again, although we were all over Exeter City in the first half. They went down to 10 men and we sat back so that they could score, which allowed us to put Papa Waigo on, so that he could score in the dying minutes.

Honestly, I think someone is going to report us to the Football League at this rate. 3-1 yet again. By my reckoning, that the 6th or 7th time we've had that scoreline..? Not complaining in the slightest though. It's all points, and 7 away from the playoffs. It's very do-able, but we'll need to keep what players we have and to strengthen, IMO. I suspect the boardroom might be talking a lot about moving up the schedule in the 5 year plan. I mean, what is the point in staying in League One longer than you need to..?

Roll on Colchester. That'll be a test.

Another good win , in front of a large crowd . Although Saints not at their best, I always think back to what Pards explained at the fans forum.

A lot of league 1 teams are not used to playing in such a fantasic stadium , or in front of very good crowd numbers. For those teams a visit to SMS is a top game , players are bound to put in a decent performance against us because I'm sure they want to impress not only their manager but MAY catch the eye of Pards , SFC big club, great ground and I would suggest pay decent wages. A lot of players visiting are bound to up their game , when in previous matches may not shine to much for thier own club.

In the past , Im sure we would have bottled out in front of a large crowd , lost confidence when they pulled one back , but this team seems to have an ability to win when they are not playing to their best.

I'm convinced the play offs are now not only achievable for us, but quietly the next step for Pards.

I hope we're getting a replacement then I still think Perry is a big big problem

and will certainly be exploited by big'gish fast'ish strikers. What is more he doesn't last the 95 minutes.Meaning you have to keep back a sub when you could really do with a bit more punch at the front.

He was MOM last week vs Beckford who was taken off, and although he wasn't dominant today, his reading of the game is superb, and he made one outstanding block towards the end just inside the box, and put a low cross for a corner. I don't think he's amazing by any stretch, but I think he's in a good patch of form at the moment.

Not the best game I've seen but the better team won.what was the mills sub all about?.

saw the 'team bus',Surely the players didn't come in a transit:-).

Thought the atmosphere was awful today, the northam was like a library ,it's nice to have a full house but not sure if it should be at the expense of the atmosphere.

Saints win 3-1 - now there's a surprise ;-) Us conceding in the last quarter of the match - Now there's a surprise ;-) You lot giving magnificent support with yet another massive home gate - Now there's a surprise ;-)

Truthfully the only 'real' surprise was the goals source, especially the first two not coming from Lambo or DC. 7pts FFS

Text from brother at ground says "Better team lost!"

Still, it's the team that scores the most that wins ... and that was Saints!

So, not only out of the relegation zone by Christmas, but also into the top half. I'd have taken that at the start of the season.

COYR - let's push on to the playoffs in the second half of the season.

Did your brother go to the game today ?

He hasn`t got a clue !

We could of scored 6, but were hanging on before Waigo sgored a clinical third, funny sort of game. Exeter battled valiantly with 10 men, but if we have play off aspirations, we have to be more clinical against lesser opposition. RL and DC actually looked as though they have not played together before, which is strange considering they are probably the best striking combination in the league.

Morgan was the best player on the pitch by a country mile.

Completely "ok" performance in as much as we did enough to win.

Hopefully a few players were playing within themself with an eye on the Colchester game but I suspect the reality is that we just didn't play very well.

Perry and Harding were our best players.

We created absolutely nothing for Lambert and Connolly.

Bart's distribution was awful.

Waigo should start every match.

Do not agree with that at all.

He managed to look "nice" today without actually doing anything. I don't think he or Hammond made a single attacking run all match.

The reason Lambert and Connolly looked out of sorts was because the midfield created, with the exception of a couple of decent crosses from Antonio and Lallana, absolutely nothing.

James was caught sleeping several times. Three or four or five times he was actually snoring in the second half!

Nowhere near good enough for this team and should be dropped now - dreadful display again!

and the alternative at RB??

AP obviously doesn't think Thomas is the man for that job so that leaves LJ as

the unique candidate for the time being.

I think he was just resting him for monday...

I think you're wrong, when James has been available to play at RB during Murty's absences (ie not required in midfield) he has always got the nod.

There is something about Thomas that AP doesn't care for, either at CD or RB.

He plays him when he absolutely has to because there is no other viable choice.

The team for Monday will be as it was today except for Jaidi in place of Trotman and perhaps Papa instead of Antonio.

Didn't play well but didn't look like losing either. Deflected goal, set piece and a counter attacking goal was enough, but we created plenty more. Exeter passed it well particularly with ten men, but had nothing up front and our cutting edge made the difference.

Trotman stood out for me on the plus side and Antonio was absolutely shocking. Quiet games from Lallana and Lambert, but their time will come again.

Just pleased to celebrate a win in front of a full house.

I'm probably James's biggest critic - However, today - Credit where Credit is due. He has scored our first vital goal (Albeit with a lucky deflection) and he set up the second with a fantastic free-kick for Trotman to nod in. Also crossed for Connelly to hit the bar. Though he did ok today, I even selected him MOTM. As Radio Solent said to him, he get's pushed to Midfield, then to defence, then to midfield, then back again quite abit but he never complains, just get's on with it.

He's played every league game this season, so he is doing something right. We all know when he's being run at by quick wingers he struggles but other than that he does the job. Give him a break. He deserved that bit of luck for his goal today.
