Gemmel Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 I know it has been discussed on the forum (In it's various forms) a few times, but an interesting post on the takeover thread in the lounge, from a skate, who believes that end is nigh for pompey, based on some sort of land deal; "your seeing the endgame, kaboul off in Jan, in all seriousness I think PFC is being wound down for a property deal on the ground and you will not see a PFC again ever in the current form." So if that does happen and whatever form they are reborn as, would you want them to ground share with us? NC and Libherr have said they want to ultimately run us as a self sustaining business, so financially it would obvioulsy make sense, but would the fans accept it? For me it is a resounding NO.
Thedelldays Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 fuk no I cant wait to see AFC Portmouth or Portsea Blues FC
saints_is_the_south Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Not even a matter for debate imo, a firm NO.
Thedelldays Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 they can rot...the horrible club will never forgive them for ruining Ted Bates min silence..I know it was a few but knuckle dragging type of support they have has no place in SMS... the way they laughed at us this summer and danced around to the idea of the "Arab Billionaire" buying them...
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 No chance, would rather let them fold all together.
Scummer Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Don't want them to fold, but wouldn't like to ground share either. They can play at Moneyfields or West Leigh Park.
Johnny Bognor Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 I think ground sharing is a good option for them, as long as it is with Havant & Waterlooville.

Agree a resounding No ! They can hop along to share with Brighton's new stadium!
Thedelldays Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Portsea Blues FC wont be able to afford the rent we would charge
Verbal Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 I wonder if Cortese would necessarily want to turn away a potentially valuable revenue stream - assuming the shiny new version of Pompey is one that pays its bills. But - no. In any case, the police would never allow it.

NC and Libherr have said they want to ultimately run us as a self sustaining business, so financially it would obvioulsy make sense, but would the fans accept it? For me it is a resounding NO. I wouldn't have a problem with it, being good neighbours, solidarity and all that (plus the extra income to us - better than expectiing Markus to put his hand in his pocket all the time). But... The sad, obsessive hatred that seems to come across from just about any Portsmouth fan that I've ever spoken to seems to go beyond simple rivalry and it almost seems that a lot of them would begrudge being done the favour. I doubt they'll go under. If they get wound up then there will be someone to buy them even if they only have funds to stabilise the club. Going back to groundshare, they'd probably be better looking at Brighton. It's probably as easy to get to for a lot of them, Brighton need the money more and they don't have the pride issue. (and lets face it, the capacity at Falmer is more suitable to a smaller club...)

Verbal Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Why do you think the police would never allow it? Because of Portsmouth fans behaviour or the potential for trouble with locals? Probably both.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Dear Pompey. **** off and keep out of our city. Yours, RAW91.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 The numbers simply wouldn't stack up, our stadium would come at a greater cost than the revenue they could possibly generate by the few that will follow them in whatever league they end up in, if they are unable to fill their shack in the premiership what chance will they have in league 1 or lower, H+W is a far more realistic option for them.
The Kraken Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 I very much agree with Verbal; I very seriously doubt that Hampshire Police would allow a groundshare. Imagine the logistical nightmare they would have with 15,000 Pompey fans descending upon Southampton every other week; it would be a policing impossibility. And given Pompey's pathetic level of support, plus the fact that plenty would refuse to make St Mary's their home, the cost of policing offset against our cut of the ticket share would mean it probably wouldn't make financial sense for them either.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Poortsmouth fans smashed up their own city after losing a game once, imagine what they'd do to ours..
Toomer Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Ground share with the fishy lot, now go and wash your mouth out. NO
jam Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Poortsmouth fans smashed up their own city after losing a game once, imagine what they'd do to ours.. Didn't that happen after they beat us in the EPL a few years back? The famous 'youngest kid to get a banning order' incident? I remember wondering'if that's what they are like when they win, how would they be if we beat them?'

Indeed. If the figure to break even is about 17,000 fans at a game, we/they'd be losing money by the bucket load.
BadgerBadger Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 They do seem to reflect what is rotten in the game, various dodgy crooks passing through the halls of Fratton with no legacy other than some short term success bought on the wealth of a few with no interest in building the club in a sustainable manner - they should be applauded Makes me realise how lucky we currently are
RedAndWhite91 Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Didn't that happen after they beat us in the EPL a few years back? The famous 'youngest kid to get a banning order' incident? I remember wondering'if that's what they are like when they win, how would they be if we beat them?' Not sure jam, you're probably right actually. The kid was ten and he was found waving a plank of wood around at people wasn't he? Madness. It's another reason why we shouldn't ground share anyway!
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Any possible profit would be eaten up by: 1. Policing costs as they would have problems at every one of their games. 2. The cost of cleaning the seat after Mr PFC Wetpants had rung the life out of his dong in situ. Not a chance in hell I say.
Thedelldays Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 alan knights testimonial, we beat them 5-1 at fratton (what a night that was)... they raided the pitch and was kept away from us by a row of mounted police...some ran around the back of the away stand and threw anything and everything over into the stand... we were kept on for what seemed like hours, with dave beasant telling us all jokes.. it was horrific getting back to fratton station.. after the skates could not get into a tangle with us, they went on the rampage in pompey that night too..
Give it to Ron Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Judas Redknapp will come and save them.....he already said he would and he never breaks his word.
Footballfan Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Totton are having a new ground bulit, maybe that could be an option for them
Katalinic Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 they can rot...the horrible club will never forgive them for ruining Ted Bates min silence..I know it was a few but knuckle dragging type of support they have has no place in SMS... the way they laughed at us this summer and danced around to the idea of the "Arab Billionaire" buying them... Pretty much how I see it although I would like to see them survive in some form or another as I think our own football supporting experience would be poorer for not having a genuine rivallry let them start again in the non-league or something.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 (edited) So many reasons you could pick, heres one... 20k Pompey fans in Southampton 23 times a year would bring a huge annual policing bill that would wipe out a large chunk of any gate money. When the brought 3k for one off league games it was a nightmare to police so with 20k invading a city they hat on a regular basis the police just wouldn't do it and the local residents would hate it. Every other football team ground share is two teams in the same city. A city they both respect. Pompey fans don't like Southampton. Edited 24 December, 2009 by Matthew Le God
Draino76 Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Portsea Blues FC wont be able to afford the rent we would charge Sounds like something off Pro Evo lol.

My heart sank when I realised that the minutes silence would be with them. Ted deserved better. Although it did seem that most of their fans were pretty ****ed off with the mongs who disrupted it. I was also pretty ****ed of that some of ours shouted back.

Many other reasons you could pick. The biggest 'home' gates ever in their recent history and all at SMS. How ironic would that be!

Many other reasons you could pick. major reason why it will not happen is public order nothing even to do with cost the ob would just veto it
dubai_phil Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Salisbury have had financial problems, they'd benefit from the extra revenue. It would also serve the few right, let them sit in the feckin Tesco's traffic jam for an hour each way each week
Thedelldays Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 it would be a possibility if the ground was at stoneham but in the city centre of southampton...in around around housing estates... NO CHANCE
sotonjoe Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Being as sensible and level headed as possible ... I'd say that if there was a straight choice between ultimate destruction for Portsmouth FC or them being allowed a way back by groundsharing with us, I'd wave them cheerio as they disappeared over the horizon, never to be seen again.
Badvoc Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 My heart sank when I realised that the minutes silence would be with them. Ted deserved better. Although it did seem that most of their fans were pretty ****ed off with the mongs who disrupted it. I was also pretty ****ed of that some of ours shouted back. I was in the Itchen that game right next to the ponces. IMHO their own lot would have sorted out the booing themselves, but the problem was exacerbated by our lot shouting back. A very, very sad situation to respect the end of somebody's life.

Whitey Grandad Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 So long as they change their shirts to red & white stripes and call themselves Saints reserves then I don't see a problem.
saint lard Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 NO. They can bog off and dissapear up thier collective jacksy'
corsacar saint Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 No, there is not enough space on this site to go unto all the reasons.
