A Great Chance to Steal Aussie Talent on Loan...

When March comes around, the Football League loan window will still be open, and this is when the A-League football season comes to an end in Australia.

Australia national coach Pim Verbeek has insisted that players wanting to make the South African World Cup side play competitively through until May, otherwise they will not be selected.

If anyone of any importance reads this site, get your scouts out there, because if we need that little bit extra to push to the play offs - this could be our saviour. The players may not want to come here - BUT THEY MAY BE FORCED TO!!!

Jason Culina > former PSV midfielder, 29, who plays anywhere in the centre of midfield. will probably start in the socceroos first team in the WC.

Tommy Oar > short of a pacy winger? this young superstar is bound to make waves in Europe in the future, and his performances are sneaking him close to WC reckoning.

Mile Sterjovski > striker, 30, his style of play is similar to Bobby Zamora and is likely to be in the WC squad.

Craig Moore > former Rangers and Newcastle centreback who is commanding, a leader, and is expected to make the WC squad. Plenty of experience too.

Alex Brosque > clever Sydney striker with great finishing ability and decent creativity. Impressing at the moment and has a chance of making the WC squad

Also: Jacob Burns (midfielder), Scott Jamieson (full back) and Matthew Kemp (full back) are worth a look, all with chances of making the WC squad should they show some form.

This is a chance that HONESTLY could be the difference between play offs and 7th or 8th place in the league. The A-League may not be a great league, but it has some decent individual players that would no doubt help our cause here in League One.

PARDEW - GET YOUR SCOUTS OUT THERE!!!

Mickey Mouse league, mickey mouse teams, mickey mouse players.

It's the Southern Hemisphere equivalent of the SPL.

Where as legaue one is a feast of quaility players ;). I think we need to look outside the box a bit to find some good players its worth a look i would have thought.

You seem to be missing something here - rendering this thread completely pointless - the football league loan window is only open to DOMESTIC loans after the January transfer window shuts. You can't sign any players from abroad after the end of January.

Sorry to spoil everyone's fun :(

Merry Christmas!

If that's true I'll get my coat... though it would have been worth a shout just for a couple of months. Yes it is a Mickey Mouse league but these are World Cup standard players we are talking about. Australia are no pushovers either.

Which 'Brightspark' thought it would be a good idea to start a pointless thread!?

Aussie champs Melbourne Victory enter the same Champions League as Muangthong United over here. I go to lots of games and keep my eyes peeled but TBH, as much as I enjoy the games, I've seen very few players that would make the Eastleigh squad, let alone Saints.

This.

Really is a Mickey Mouse league out here...And as for the poster above who said 'league one is feast of quality players' I reckon Southampton would, in their current form, beat most of the A-League teams without breaking a sweat. Seriously Robbie Fowler just takes the ****...that is when he can be bothered to play.

Mickey Mouse is one of the greatest cartoon characters in the world!

Your constant defamation of Mickey and of the Disney Corperation is unnacceptable and has to stop.

I watch the A-League highlights on Sky Sports from time to time, and the overall quality of the players isn't that great tbh. Having said that, it doesn't mean that there aren't any good players in the leagues! Jason Culina is quality, and from what i've seen of Tommy Oar (from one YouTube video, which is the same philosophy that brought such quality as Lee Molyneux to SMS) he looks good too.

No reason why we couldn't poach a few players on loan with an option to buy in January, which would technically make the loan deal ratifiable (if i'm correct?).

It would - but that's not relevant to the thread - we can buy or loan any players we want during the window, but can only loan domestic players outside the january window (up until the emergency loan deadline).

I suggest you get your coat, although you probably don't need one in Brizzie at the moment - you would here, weather's horrendous!

But agreed - there are decent players to be had in most leagues around the world, but Saints wouldn't be able to get any in on loan during March.

John Sydenham has lived in Perth (?) for many years past and always seemed to act as an "official / unofficial " scout for the Saints in Oz.

Lets sign Harry Kewell for a larf

For a start he plays for Galatasary in Turkey

It's the same with the Russian league, I can't believe how this and possibly the Australian league hasn't been exposed more yet. The only example is when Bolton signed the Zenit defender Sebastien Puygrenier on loan and I believe he scored their 4000th league goal or something.

Plenty of class players in Russia, I suppose a lot of the top class players have been bought now by Western European clubs (Zhirkov, Bilyaletdinov etc)

The A-league is a bit crap - it's much slower than league 1 - Kevin Muscat (now nearly 40) plays CB for the best team ffs.

However, many of the best players are looking for loan-outs or short term transfers in January because the A-league ends in Feb & the national coach has told everyone that they need to be playing regular football to get into the WC2010 squad.

By far the best striker in the A-league is Archie Thompson at Melbourne (even after four years in a 10 team league, defences still can't work him out) - he's fit, quite fast & got some skill. HCDAJFU IMO.

Scott Neville was previously touted on this forum,a young right back for Perth Glory. He also happens to be son of a former Saints player,Steve Neville.

As he plays in Perth I'm sure Sydenham has,or will have him under scrutiny if he is any good.

As much as I love the A-League and supporting Melbourne Victory we're just not in the same ballpark as Saints. An interesting case in point is Michael Theoklitos. He was a star goalkeeper for Melbourne and was named the best in the league for the last two seasons. At the start of the season he secured a move to Norwich, conceded 7 in the first game of the season, and hasn't been seen since.

The league isn't much but it's ours. It was never created to compete with the major overseas leagues. We just wanted to give our best young players the opportunity to get some first time experience in a professional league before making the move to Europe whilst luring some high profile aussies back home to raise the profile of the sport. We also wanted to stop losing players to lower league clubs. It's been successful in achieving these objectives, whilst capitalising on some local rivalries (Melbourne vs Sydney/Adelaide) to spice things up a bit.

If Saints or any other clubs were to take advantage of our players need to move overseas, it would have to be January. A player exodus would adversely affect the competition on the verge of the finals but you can understand why the players feel the need to move.

Archie Thompson would look good in red and white but I think with the likes of Lambert, Connolly, Lallana, Waigo, etc we're pretty good in that area.
