Liquidshokk Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009  http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4818667.Clampers_target_drivers_who_left_cars_in_the_snow/ Just seent this on the daily echo website, Not been clamped personally but I feel so much anger towards this sort of thing. I hate to think how raged I would be if I saw someone clamping my car after I had to ditch it due to poor weather! This country really has become quite unbelievable.... notnowcato Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 The country is not at fault, it is (as always) the shisters that live here.
JackFrost Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 I know it wouldn't happen but it makes me shudder if one day the entire wheel clamping industry got nationalised. Can you just imagine all the extra tax Gordon would be revelling in? If those people went about it the right way they should get their money back no problem

They are just hoping that people are too weak to contest it. Sadly a few of them will be and their christmas will be ruined by no fault of their own. JackFrost Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 (edited) If it was that easy and a guarantee then the robbing b*stards wouldnt do it in the first place. They are just hoping that people are too weak to contest it. Sadly a few of them will be and their christmas will be ruined by no fault of their own. and unfortunately most people are, or don't know the correct procedure with which to reclaim money, which is why these dodgy firms do it. I can only go on this report but by the looks of it, if the clamping victims all took photos of the extreme conditions they were forced to abandon their cars in and of the covered up clamping warning signs and appealed Cobra wouldn't stand a chance IMO. "They left their cars at the pub where warning signs about the clamping operation had been covered by snow." I'm not certain, but I'm fairly sure that it is illegal for a wheel clamping company to clamp your car when warning signs are not visible. I would also encourage those drivers to check whether Cobra are registered with the SIA, because if Cobra aren't I'm pretty sure they are breaking the law clamping anyone's car. I've heard this scam done countless times over the years whenever snow has fallen Edited 23 December, 2009 by JackFrost
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 Also they (Cobra) claim that they have a contract with the site owner. However, there is no contract in operation at the moment as the owner of the business has gone bust and hence all existing contracts become null and void. The actual owners are Greedy King and they don't have a contract; it was Nick at the Roebuck who did. ergo, these clampers are doing it purely as a scam and to maximise revenue. Ponty Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 I don't see a problem. If they park illegally they should be punished.

Parking on someone else's property is not illegal; it is trespass which is a civil tort.

Whichever, they parked in the wrong place, in a clamping zone, they get clamped. Fair dos.

It seems to me you are looking for an disagreement, a splitting hairs type of disagreement. I wished reality was as black and white as you seem to see it. I'm playing Devil's Advocate, somewhat, but surely the weather shouldn't except people from things like parking fines (assuming they're administered correctly and lawfully)? Wiltshire Saint Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 I agree with Ponty. These people should be punished in some way. Many of them stopped emergency vehicles getting to places on time and some people died as a result, probably. The deserters of cars should either have their: a) car towed away and they have to pay the fee b) be clamped and they have to pay a fee c) Prosecuted and taken to court with the maximum sentences imposed once these criminals have been found guilty I would ask you all one question - how would you feel if one of your loved ones had died as a result of an ambulance not being able to get through because of abandoned cars? Junction 9 Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 I agree with Ponty and WS. What other laws should we be allowed to flout because of ice and snow? Burglary, shop lifting? soliciting?

They abandoned them in a car park, numb-nuts, so as not to block the highway.

What, so no one ever gets run over or stabbed or has a heart attack in a car park? Numb-nut.
