Outperforming Saints?

Saints W9 D8 L5 Pts35

Huddersfield W10 D5 L7 Pts35

Swindon W9 D7 L4 Pts34 (played 2 less games)

Hardly outperforming, is it?

We have spend more in 5 months than Swindon have the last 8 years combined.....so yes they are doing better than us.

Wilson would be ahead of AP in any manager of the year competition if the draw was done now!

Hailing AP as a legend and messiah

I think the term WindmillArm2 used was actually "Legend In the making" the last part of which you've chosen to omit (not for the first time on this thread) to exaggerate your point. The importance of those two missing words is to suggest a belief that AP is capable of great things - not that he his even close to being there yet. God knows where you got the messiah bit from. Felt like stoking up the debate with a little more exaggeration did you?

I'd say the present run of form is good enough to justify belief in the manager long term wouldn't you? Or is his form only good enough in your opinion to attract the attention of a club like West Ham?

Maybe but also maybe not!

Wilson had a full pre-season with his squad and did not have to start the season with a -10 points handicap.

He also did not have to re-build virtually an entire team and repair shattered confidence to boot.

While AP is not a legend by any means (yet), he has in 4 short months taken us by good management and good results, from the depths of despair to renewed hope and optimism.

I agree with that (made one small edit)

Pards does come across very well in interviews. I think that is crucial to get the fans on his side. It was something that Burley was very bad at and it seemed to rub off on the team. We'd get totally outplayed by a team in the relegation zone and Burley would ramble on about what a quality side they are on their day and would just come up with excuse after excuse. Now he may well have been completely different when it came to the players but the fans saw very little or no evidence of it. We could only judge him when he was in front of the cameras and it does give the fans a lot of encouragement when the manager appears to share very similar concerns and comes across as someone who knows what their doing

Agree with this totally, it's so refreshing to know that what we see week in week out at SMS is what the manager sees. I can't remember that ever happening under Burley, Poortvliet or Wotte. Pardew tells it like it is, he doesn't gloss over the cracks and seems to know exactly what's needed.

No it isn't.

"Legend" suggests the here and now. No-one is saying he is a Legend based on half a season.

"Legend in the making" suggests the future. It talks of a belief that AP has what it takes to become an important figure in the club's history, which based on the current, long run of good form seems fairly well-justified. The poster was just saying what they believe will happen, probably so they get the chance to say "I told you so" later on.

It's like those boring, self-righteous *****s who bang on about how they alone saw us as a play-off team as opposed to a team aiming to avoid relegation and who see our current form as vindication of their beliefs. You probably know those guys. We weren't a play-off team at the time (nor are we now, technically speaking) but more a play-off team "in the making". Hope that helps.

That helps allot thank you.

p.s you're right about Windmill - he is one of those boring, self-righteous *****s. Good observation skills!

However on a serious note please make sure you stick to the forum rules and dont abuse fellow members - I appreciate its only Windmill ;) but all the same.

Thanks in advance

GlasgowSaint. Thanks for the advice but my legal advisors inform me that such comments cannot be regarded as "abuse" as (if you take into account the personality of the person or persons being referred to) it actually works out as a compliment. Nevertheless, I'll be sure to pass your comments on to the head of the Department of Mild Slights and Injured Feelings so they can be aware of these very important concerns. Good day to you.

You've made a very good point there - case closed!

You're free to go!

think the term legend is very over used.

In my mind I will only have a handful of players/managers in my lifetime who I would see as Saints legends.

Certainly Pardew isn't one (...yet?)

Lawrie is only one I would consider.

I think Pardew is doing remarkably well and can see him overtaking likes of Hoddle and Strachen in recent years.

Managers leave lasting memories - usually when they go off the boil (WGS) or walk out/get sacked.

Hoddle saved Saints from certain relegation and had some of the vocal minority kept their mouths shut in 2004 he would have saved us again.
