Many many a night I spent wishing I could be Ace's doctor. :(

FWIW, my favourite doctors were Pertwee, Baker and my personal no.1 McCoy. I haven't watched much of the new series (kinda grew out of it and was a bit perplexed at the political undertones the BBC peddled out) but I do like Tennent too.

For me, the worst was Ecclestone. Absolutely abominable.

Anyone know where the hell I can watch some McCoy episodes? Not that I want to fap to Ace.... I just want to watch 'Survivor' and 'Curse of Fenric' again ;)

Dreadful programme.Schitt "special effects" ,childish storylines, pitiful hammy acting.

Possibly to some extent, but it's not pretending to be anything more though is it. It's Dr Who FFS!

I lost interest with the Brigadier and Unit and all that Earthbound stuff. I suppose your favourite Doctor is a bot like your fav Bond, the one you started with. I liked the early balck and white stuff with Harnell but the best for me was Tom Baker (nice line in sidekicks). The Doctor has be relatively not some young trendy geezer.

does anyone really watch thus tripe..?

anyone over the age of 15 that is....

My kids (all under 15) love it.

I watch it with them.

Some episodes have been quite good, but for the most part it is utter garbage.

Quite enjoyed the new years day one until it got to the part where it took HALF a SODDING hour for him to get killed off. Thank god Russell T Davies is gone and Stphen Moffat is taking over. He wrote the best modern episodes anyway.

If you really think David Tennant is a 'pitiful hammy actor' than I can only say you're a very stern critic because to my mind he's been absolutely top draw - not only in Doctor Who but in a highly successful and critically acclaimed RSC production of Hamlet that was also broadcast on the BBC recently .

For that matter the special effects you criticise are (trust me on this) a 'quantum leap' over what went before in previous generations of Doctor Who , and if they are not quite up to the very latest Hollywood standards then they are still perfectly adequate to tell the story in my opinion . If you really expect much more on a BBC budget then you've been spoilt frankly .

Lets just say your comments on the script however are not so far from the mark . Doctor Who fans will forever owe a debt of gratitude to Russell T Davis for having the vision and energy to resurrect the series , but frankly on the evidence of the last two (typically overblown) episodes the programme is better off without him .

I was always a Dr Who fan in my childhood and can say that i love it once again.

David Tennant was fantastic and can only hope the new Dr is as good.

My oldest and youngest children love it and ask for it to be recorded if they are not around when it is on.

Anyone else watch Matt Smith try and do a David Tennant impression for a bit yesterday?

A bit disappointed with him so far, and the episode was a bit mumbly jumbly as well.

Started off too slow and finished too fast, with no pause for breathing in between.

Should've given the new guy a bit more character development.

Still, interesting premise, and hopefully the series will improve as time goes on.

Last time I watched it, people were being killed by wheelie bins (I think) - hardly cutting edge stuff, so haven't tuned in since...!

Is that because you're too scared :smt093

Just caught up with the "End of David Tennant" episodes - Waters of Mars & End of Time - yeah we're a year behind on satellite down here - so had to resort to DVD from HMV.

When watched straight through they have it all, tugs on the heart strings, great over-acting from Timothy Dalton (James Bond in Dr Who - lol times HAVE changed), Bernard Cribbins as Luke Skywalker and a peroxide blonde John Simms out over-acting Bond.

Great entertainment value, really well acted even if the actual story lines were a little bit too much like an OTT farewell party for Davies. Best summary would be to say he did a great job bringing the Doc back and as a Swansong we can let him have his moment. It could have gone wrong, it nearly did with the sentimental goodbyes, but it didn't, and hell yes it was an enjoyable few hours of DVD watching.

So now we wait for the new series and the skills of Stephen Moffat. Do we use dodgy IP address hiding technology to stream IPlayer onto the laptop with our lousy band width down here or do we wait for the DVD's in 6 months?

Judging by the reviews of the New Doc's first episode, think it will be streaming time.

(Oh and is it Kiss-A-Gram or Kiss-O-Gram?) Seems the reviews cannot decide!

Best line from last night, as the Dr was asking for some more food to try ; "You're scottish, fry something".

That made me chuckle :D

If you take it for what it is....over the top hammy cheesy effects etc etc ( as it`s supposed to be ) it is great entertainment.

Maybe it's the case of the Doctor still-regenerating? Yes, there were similiarities but DT is a hard act to follow and this episode was promising as an introduction with the return to the Who script writing in Steven Moffat.

Finally got the new laptop able to install torrents (don't ask) and battled a download speed of 109kbps and then a laptop to HDMI link that would NOT give me audio no matter WHAT I plugged/unplugged to FINALLY watch the first episode.

Promising, very promising.

Found Confidential really interesting as well - that was never available on the S4 dodgy DVD's I got in Thailand (cos we couldn't download at the time and official ones weren't on sale) - the amount of work they put in to the outdoor scenes and the stuff about Matt Smith's family not believing he'd got the job (let alone the rest of us)

Like some of the Teasers as well did I see a Jude Law Sky Captain style in there somewhere? Spitfires in space? - sweet - not to mention Blink 2..

Looking forward to this now

Now - last night was MUCH better! Moffat really showed what he could do last night, I thought the episode was very well written. Slightly confusing at the time, but i've had a chance to get my head around it now, and I can see what SM was going for now. Very good.
