Master Bates Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 So, the worst part of Christmas has got to be the bin collections. Our recycle bin gets emptied every 2 weeks and is normally full. It was last emptied last Thursday (17th Dec). The next time it will be emptied is January 4th 2010! By then it'll be so full that the lid will be partly open and the bin men will refuse to empty it (as per their rules) as it could be too heavy for them and they may heard their back (diddums). So, when our recycle bin is full do we stop recycling? Of course not as you get fined, so what happens? It's not our fault that we have to wait an extra week for the recycle bins to be emptied, and as such I feel the binmen SHOULD empty the bins if the lids are open, as a one off. Thoughts? Calvin? Scummer Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 Do you crush your cans and things? Would make a bit more space.

Baj Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 mb, check with your council, but usually its ok to get their "official" recycling bags (check with the council for where to pick these up, in eastleigh its the swan centre) and you can put your recyclables in these bags as much as you want and leave it next to the bin. Baj Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 Interesting, never knew that one. Cheers Baj, Merry Xmas Also, in Eastleigh, the first black bin collection after xmas they take as much rubbish as you have, people just leave it in bags by their black bin. That's a one off tho. Calvin Posted 22 December, 2009 Share Posted 22 December, 2009 I have no thoughts on this issue, as I haven't worked down the council for a loooooooooonggggg time. I don't really have a clue about how the christmas holidays are planned out this year. I am hoping that my bin gets collected today, otherwise we'll be ****ed . Thank god I live in Bitterne

Amazed to learn that there are still councils on 2-weekly recycling collections. That is pretty poor.

What would be the point collecting half empty (or 25percent full) bins each week :/. Would be a waste of public tax, don't ya think?.

Here in Sheffield you can only put paper and card in the recycling bin and it only gets emptied once a month. It's lucky for me that I live right near a supermarket that has a recycling centre so I can take all of my plastic, cans etc... without needing to use the car, but it's still a shockingly bad service considering how much my council tax comes to per month. Scummer Posted 23 December, 2009 Share Posted 23 December, 2009 By the way, we only have fortnightly collections of recycling in Portsmouth. And weekly rubbish collections. The council don't supply a bin for rubbish though, you have to go to B&Q or Homebase and buy one yourself. The council is run by the Lib dems and has been for years, if that's of interest to anyone.....
