It's the Echo, so they don't know. They're just looking for a story and by getting it in a week before so they can claim exclusivity, since it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it could be postponed.

My tickets arrived this morning and I have already bought my train tickets too. I hope this is typical lazy journalists not letting facts get in the way of a story.

the facts..?

that the whole of the south east has come to a stand still you mean..?

Yes the facts TDD. The whole of the south come to a stand still?????

I'm in Chichester, the sun is shining, it must be about 6 degrees ABOVE zero, there is not a single bit of snow or frost anywhere in sight. I know there was some snow in basingstoke etc yesterday but there was not a single flake here. So perhaps the weather in Colchester is the same as Chichester!

it is not just about what it is like in colchester or the pitch..it is more about the movement of people in and around london/south east

at the mo, it is a non event

Same as the wigan v bolton game last night - undersoil heating was on, pitch was fine, everything inside stadium was ready and safe. Outside however, there were ice patches in the car park and 99% of the turnstiles had ice outside them and because of this it was too dangerous around the stadium and on the way to the stadium and therefore had to postpone the game

Rather play Colchester on Monday than have the match postponed and face them with Nobby Solano in the team in the New Year. Can't really see that anyone can be considering the state of the game in 6 days time. Even if there is snow around now it is likely it will all be gone by then according to the weather forecast. Unless the pitch then becomes waterlogged there is not much chance that the weather will cause a postponement.

It was bad around Basingstoke yesterday. But I still managed to drive from Southampton to Basingstoke and then on to Bristol and back all in the afternoon and evening.

The story is a load of cobblers and should be taken with a giant pinch of salt, which won't even be needed on the Colchester pitch by the time this game is played. Sloppy journalism as usual from the local rag.

This story started with the Colchester groundsman saying the game is in doubt not the Echo making it up...

Blacknall told the Gazette: “I’m now very concerned about the Southampton game.

On Saturday, Gillingham fans helped clear the pitch at Priestfield - 2 miles from where I live - when there were 6-8 inches on the ground and temperatures at -2 degrees. The match went ahead without any problems. They don't have any undersoil heating or blowers; just a cover for the pitch, which hadn't worked any way (hence the use of fans). It is not forecast to be worse by Monday, quite the opposite, and if Gillingham can manage to keep a game on when it was far, far worse I see no reason to believe that Colchester cannot manage the same. If it is fans getting to the game that concerns, Stockport County - the visitors to Priestfield last Saturday - turned up at 10.45 a.m.....

I was on the M23/M25 this morning and it was smooth and easy......

Just wondering without if anyone would know if the train service would be running? or is it a no go...

Trains are running fairly regularly but engineering works from Liverpool St so you need to get tube to Newbury Park then special bus to Ilford for trains onto Colchester which adds a little on to journey a dozen of us leaving Salisbury 8.20 due to get to Colchester 12.12

If there is "several feet of snow" on the pitch then of course it's going to be in doubt.

Where did this several feet of snow materialise from? Even with the heavy falls we had yesterday, there was only 6 inches on the ground according to the groundsman. The forecast is for better conditions for the next week or so, so if anything the problems might be waterlogging rather than the snow or ice.

According to the Daily Echo' date=' Saints away game at Colchester on the 28th is in doubt due to heavy snow fall, and that the club [Colchester'] have called upon fans to help shovel the snow.

I think the Echo are over reacting a bit. But then Colchester is in a bloody cold part of the country, when the weather turns sour. It's flat, it's in the east, and the wintry weather is coming right at it, pretty much unhindered. I bet the little club has no under pitch heating system either. Wouldn't surprise me if the Echo got it wrong, and it wouldn't surprise me if the game was called off either.

"However, Colchester's pitch is currently buried under several feet of snow. "

I wonder why they didn't put under-soil seating in their brand new stadium.

Just bought my tickets. COYR

Considering our allocation was only 1900 I thought we might sell out, being another new ground that many would tick off the list, did the ticket office mention how many were left?

Posted

I live up the road in Ipwich, we still have loads of snow and ice around but it is slowly melting away, I think all will be good by monday. See you all there COYR!!!!

Posted

I live 2 miles away from the ground and I am happy to report the snow is melting away as it ****ed down this afternoon. With temperatures rising over the next few days there really shouldn't be any problem.

They better not call this game off, I've been looking forward to it for weeks!

Posted

I am also looking forward to this game as well as I have never been to Colchester before nor to there new ground and I am looking forward to going if the game does go ahead!

Where are the best places to drink before Btw?

COYR!

It looks like it will be +7 degrees in Colchester on Monday. So the game will be on, lets sell our allocation for this one and really make some noise.

Posted

Travel will not be a problem. I travelled up from Fawley on Monday and EVERY motorway/A-road was fine, roads around the stadium are fine and roads in Colchester city centre is fine. Trains are now running almost back to their full timetable.

It won't be a problem. See you Monday.
