oxfordshire_saint Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I once saw Anders Svensson in River Island, no words were exchanged and his wife was not present
REDARMY79 Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I once had a Panini sticker of Glenn ****erill and i looked at it, then I swapped it for a Barry Horne one and i looked at that one too. True Story?
Verbal Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I have vague memory of seeing a potato in the shape of Iain Dowie, but it may just have been him.
Ozkeith2 Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I once saw Danny Wallace in Fridays night club after we'd lost to Liverpool. I told him that we (saints) needed to work harder or we would get relegated. He agreed. I was right. 20 years later we were relegated.
Toomer Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I have played golf with MLT at Stoneham in a charity event. I also saw Charlie George play for Saints, not many can lay claim to that.
saintbletch Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 To answer the OP's question....I think Lee Holmes is a really decent bloke off the pitch and I remember his displays on the pitch early last season fondly (before QPR). My 13 year old daughter wears Lee Holmes' top to each home game - not a replica but his official match top. I'll explain... We went to the club's open training day at SMS earlier in the season which was fantastic. Everyone there got to meet all the players who patiently signed autographs and posed for pictures. Well my daughter and her mate were trying to out-do each other getting photos, autographs and other memorabilia from the players. Long story short but with the help of some fantastic stewards who wanted to keep a couple of hormone-fuelled teenage girls quiet, my daughter's mate got a brand new Saints top signed by all the players and my daughter got the training top off Rickie Lambert's back. Top bloke. We were the last to leave the stadium and Rickie Lambert was the last player in line signing autographs and as he jogged back to the tunnel after posing for pictures with us, and as we were being ushered out of the stadium, my cheeky daughter shouted "Can I have your top Rickie please?". He stopped, thought about it, stripped off his top, jogged back and handed it to my daughter who just about fainted. Top bloke. Lee Holmes? Well my daughter had previously asked Lee if she could have his shirt (as she did to every player) and he said that the next time he played he would give her his top. I thought that was just a push-off a) because he didn't want to give her his top and b) because he wasn't likely to play again any time soon. But he chatted to us for quite a while and he was insistent that if he played she would get his top. Well a couple of home games later (can't remember who against) Lee Holmes made the bench and came on for the last 5-10 minutes. Towards the end of the game my daughter made her way down to the tunnel area (with the help of one of the friendly stewards) and at the final whistle, Lee Holmes saw my daughter and remembered her and his promise and before he had left the pitch he took off his shirt and handed it straight to my daughter. I thought that was a really nice touch and was very impressed that he remembered. So, unbelievably my daughter got Rickie Lambert's sweaty training top and Lee Holmes' official match shirt as well as the bragging rights with her mate. And the club got two female fans for life.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 How the hell did a baby Franny help your Mum? And why did you have a pram? Very strange. Did Franny have a tache when he was a baby? Franny can do anything what a legend!
Saint Without a Halo Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I have played golf with MLT at Stoneham in a charity event. I also saw Charlie George play for Saints, not many can lay claim to that. I also saw Charlie George in a saints team at home but he only liked to play away!
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I got kicked by Martin Chivers on a No.3 bus to The Dell when he got on at The Polygon. He said "Sorry". It's not in his autobiography though. Still, you can't expect a demi-god to remember every significant event in his life.

hughieslastminutegoal Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 Sat in the car behind Peter Osgood's Cortina in a traffic jam going up the Avenue after a match once. Surely a traffic jam wasn't going anywhere.
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I was collecting autographs behind the Dell's West Stand in the 60s. Tony Godfrey, Ted Bates, Tony Knapp and George Kirby all signed. And then another bloke grabbed my book and signed it. "Who the eff's that bloke?" I asked my mate. We eventually deciphered his signature as "Richard Davies", a journo from Southern Television. Yep, the one and the same who later became an ITV Saturday Sport legend known as "Dickie Davies" , and well before the bleached badger hair stripe made an appearance. No limit to how far up their rear orifice some local journos' heads can be, he practically turned himself into a Gordian Knot.
wightman35 Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I saw Ted Bates and george Curtis, when they came to my school to coach football. I was not allowed to speak to them as I was not in the first team. (Come to that, I did not even get in their Second lot. Prejudiced teachers............) Now where is that smiley thing?????????
RedAndWhite91 Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 does he work at the VW garage? He did at the time, yeh. Not sure about now though, last saw them about 7 years ago...

Smirking_Saint Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I have actually had a kick around with Jo Tessem for 15 minutes. Ages ago back in my Barton Peveril days, me and my mate Tom used to have a kick around down the back of Flemming park. (the carpet tennis courts/footie pitches) Tessem happened to walk in whilst we were kicking around and asked if he could join in. We chatted for a while and he toddled off, he is actually a top bloke.
Saint Samuel Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Met Holmes a couple of times, seems a really nice bloke, would love to see him get back in the team, but don't think he will, shame.
Badger Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 Surely a traffic jam wasn't going anywhere. Only occasionally did it move, and only a short distance at a time.
benjii Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 My friend saw Tahar el Khalej buying some football boots in West Quay. Holy moly!

Gordon Mockles Posted 25 December, 2009 Posted 25 December, 2009 I had drinks & a curry/Chinese with Jimmy Case Monday night. I had a lamb pathia, he had chow mein (extra onion) amongst other dishes shared & we got a free calender from the Chinese upon Jimmy's recognition! You don't get much more showbiz than that! ;0) Merry Xmas!
Eastcowzer Posted 25 December, 2009 Posted 25 December, 2009 I have played golf with MLT at Stoneham in a charity event. I also saw Charlie George play for Saints, not many can lay claim to that. Not 'Flymo' Charlie George surely. Did'nt realise he actually played for Saints. Thought he was only here for the money. Yes, I too had the dubious privelege of seeing Charlie appearing in a Saints shirt, though he did'nt do a lot, if memory serves.
david in sweden Posted 25 December, 2009 Posted 25 December, 2009 Not 'Flymo' Charlie George surely. Did'nt realise he actually played for Saints. Thought he was only here for the money. Yes, I too had the dubious privelege of seeing Charlie appearing in a Saints shirt, though he did'nt do a lot, if memory serves. Charlie George is a member of the " Came for a big fee, but didn't play much " society. Though to be fair, he did manage about 50 games in two years - which was more than... David Speedie, Kerry Dixon, John Beresford and Agustin Delgado - all put together.
stknowle Posted 25 December, 2009 Posted 25 December, 2009 I am amazed anyone would recognise Lee Holmes. I wouldn't know if he was stood next to me in the pub. I know what you mean. I stood next to someone at the bar last night and I don't know whether or not it was Lee Holmes.
benjii Posted 25 December, 2009 Posted 25 December, 2009 Oooohh! Just remembered... I met David Prutton in the casino once. It was quite soon after we'd signed him so there was still the prospect that he wasn't ****e so I was mildly excited to talk to him. I informed how my Nottingham Forest supporting acquiantance was of the opinion that he was a better player than Jermaine Jenas (they both played for Forest, Saints fans !!). He was very nice and he said, "JJ's a really good player" in a northern accent. He is northern.
benjii Posted 25 December, 2009 Posted 25 December, 2009 I'm not sure if he won any money and I don't know what he was playing. I reckon he's a roulette man!
StuRomseySaint Posted 25 December, 2009 Posted 25 December, 2009 So, unbelievably my daughter got Rickie Lambert's sweaty training top and Lee Holmes' official match shirt as well as the bragging rights with her mate. And the club got two female fans for life. So it's his fault we have so many women watching Saints? Stick him on the transfer list and ship him out.
