Elias Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Despite, or perhaps beacuse of the large crowd the atmosphere was quite ****. Even in the first half when we were well on top.

mynameisthehulk Posted 26 December, 2009 Author Share Posted 26 December, 2009 I thought it was nice to see all the families at the game today. I suppose they aren't real enough fans though...

Saints foreva Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 I thought the atmosphere in the first half was pretty good, but the second half it seemed to die down a fair bit until the 3rd goal. Itchen North was terrible today, but I guess that was because the people who used to be regulars there sit somewhere else..

If they open it up again you watch that fantastic atmosphere return.
Elias Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 agreed the £10 esperiment attracted a lot of real armchair fans not even ex members/st holders very strange At least with a win we might attract a few of the armchair fans back to St Marys. Might make them real supporters. Even the Northam looked and sounded fair-weather today!

dannysfc Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Yeh I thought that was a Good attendance and it would be good to get that attendance for every home game from now on but that is highly doubtful! Did we get the highest in League One today and Did we get above any of the Prem games too?

Matthew Le God Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Did we get the highest in League One today and Did we get above any of the Prem games too? Yep, highest in League One today. Only Leeds can get more than 30k and they didn't beat Saints today. Lots of Premeirship teams get on average no more than early 20k's and capacities under 30k. Blackburn, Burnley, Pompey, Bolton, Hull, Fulham and Wigan etc
Nexstar Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 And higher than Brums game, which was against Chelsea. St. Andrews does only hold 30,000 though.

St Landrew Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Got close to capacity today. Although how they will ever do that, when they have to have a gap between rival supporters anyway, is beyond me. 32,689 - 30,890 = 1,799 short of filling all the seats. Not bad at all. Isn't the corporate area included in the 32k? The away section had a section that was pretty empty. I guess Exeter took their allocation and didn't sell them all. Topcat Posted 26 December, 2009 Share Posted 26 December, 2009 Time to start planning a ground expansion to 45K? Also when will the train station be setup to ease the congestion and move supporters away in a green and efficient manner?

70's Mike Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 The balance between a half empty stadium and a full one? Its a no brainer! i wonder how much extra the club made in moving from 20k to 30k , £150k? imo the atmosphere and vocal support yesterday was poor compared with other homegames this season i want to see SMS filled every week but not with the crowd mix we had yesterday it just did not work
SaintRobbie Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 Nearly 31000... oh I love the loss of Mr Lowe and his plc. Moving onwards and upwards... chuffed to bits to see so many... we'll pack Wembley at the JPT final!!!!
alehouseboys Posted 27 December, 2009 Share Posted 27 December, 2009 Has League One ever had a day before with such high attendances with so many clubs? Southampton 31,000, Leeds 30,100, Norwich 25,000 (probably could have had more if Carrow Road was bigger) and Charlton 17,000 (good for League One - but for second place in division?). The Leeds game with full away support and better corporate take-up and then more games towards the end of season will hopefully see 32k plus at SMS. I have only been to four games as I don't live Southampton, and this was by far the best atmosphere of any of those games. You need to take into account that one persons idea of a good atmosphere is different to another persons. The Northam was quieter than the Bristol Rovers game, but I was in the Chapel and it was by far the noisiest I have ever heard it. I love the atmosphere created naturally by a lot of people watching and enjoying a game of football, rather than being in a small section of the ground singing anti Pompey songs. Leeds will take every last ticket offered and more besides for that one. I'd of thought demand for home tickets will be high as well. Good times.
