trousers Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Respectable Just need to crank things up with a couple of quality signings next month
benjii Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Nevermind. Sounds like we were ok but didn't pass it as well as we should have done. The important thing now is to win next week and get back on it then add a couple of players in January.
dan17 Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Gutted but not entirely suprised.....good effort lads, unlucky!
Jimmy_D Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 still 9 points off playoffs... not such a bad day.
iansums Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 No disgrace in losing 1-0 to the league leaders. Just need to get a couple of good results before the end of the year. The good thing is that we are still 9 pts from the play-off places so we have not lost any ground on the real target.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Should ve been at least 1-1. Oh well.
St Landrew Posted 19 December, 2009 Author Posted 19 December, 2009 Looks like 15th If Leyton Orient and Yeovil don't win it's still 14th.
Thedelldays Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 sounds like we nearly got a draw at the end I thought this may heppen today... lets bounce back against exeter
Under Weststand Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Well that was a very hard fought game today we were just not quite good enough on the day, but not disheartened by the performance.
The Kraken Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 According to Alan McInally on SkySports, we can be disappointed to come away with nothing, as we matched Leeds all were just beaten by one very good goal. Disappointing, but I always considered Leeds to be the class act in this division, so no disgrace at all. Just need to pick ourselves up for Exeter, a convincing win in front of a big crowd will get us going again.
S-Clarke Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 We still could have got something from that game, but Leeds are a top half championship team IMO with the quality they have. Similar to what Leicester were last year. the big plus for me is that we haven't lsot ground on the playoff spots, even though we lost. - and we stay in the same position. Next weekend is a biggy, but not too much to get downhearted about today.
Sheaf Saint Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Let's look at it objectively.... We know Leeds are a very good side (easily the best in this division) and it was always going to be a very tough game. We know that our CB pairing is not as strong as we would like it to be so to only concede one goal against the league-leaders is, I think, very praiseworthy. A bit disappointed that we couldn't gtet at least one goal but it sounds like we gave them a real run for it and had them hanging on in injury time. To know that we gave them a real go and were only very narrowly beaten is heartening. Will be interesting to see how the Leeds fans saw it.
madruss Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 still 9 points off playoffs... not such a bad day. Exactly. Our toughest game of the season today. Follow up with 6 points from the next two games and we'll go into the new year with the gap under 9 points f'sure!
Whitey Grandad Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Close, but not quite enough. Not surprised really but still a little disappointed. I don't think it will matter at the end of the season and I don't suppose many teams will get much at Elland Road. The Colchester match will probably be more significant.
Window Cleaner Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 still 9 points off playoffs... not such a bad day. Except that Swindon now have 2 games in hand. Could be as much as 10 minimum. I really don't think we'll make the play-offs. Not without at least 2 significant signings on the defensive front.
Saints foreva Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Pretty gutted. We've failed to beat any of the top sides this season, we've failed to beat any of the top sides in the league this season which is a worry.. Norwich, Charlton, Huddersfield, Colchester and Leeds.
Toadhall Saint Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 A very close game - I've now got a reasonable view on where we are as a team & IMHO we are on a par with the league leaders.
NickG Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Pardew's target was 7 points from play offs by end of Jan to have decent chance. Would still hope to better that
SamKimish Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 An effort to be proud of against arguably the (second?) best in League One. A couple of astute signings in January and we can still make the play-offs.
Smirking_Saint Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Well, by all accounts we gave a good account of ourselves, Leeds are top of the league for a reason. IMO, we should have played 4-5-1, i know not all agree, thats just my opinion. Unlucky boys. I look forward to see who we bring in, in january. A pacey CB would be nice. And a CM, ST and RB.
St Landrew Posted 19 December, 2009 Author Posted 19 December, 2009 Milton Keynes slipped up against Brentford.
NickG Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 every know Leeds away and Brighton home are the two hardest fixtures - got those out of the way now
.comsaint Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 I feel a bit strange really after that game. Although we lost - I don't feel too down. We gave a good account of ourselves at a very difficult place to go - and against the side that will win this division no question. I'm more proud of the fact that we kept going 'til the end - and of how far we've come in just a few short months. No disgrace in that narrow defeat. We'll do them in the JPT final & back at our place. I'd be happy with that!
CWD Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 well done lads, you did yourselves proud today by matching leeds. disappointing result in the end, but an encouraging performance. Pick yourselves up for Exeter now
doddisalegend Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Reality check! were good but we're not up there with the best yet. Looks like Morgan brings more to the midfield than I thought judging by our poor passing today. Disappionted by Conolly seemed quite today. Defence did better than I expected.
benjii Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Pretty gutted. We've failed to beat any of the top sides this season, we've failed to beat any of the top sides in the league this season which is a worry.. Norwich, Charlton, Huddersfield, Colchester and Leeds. We've beaten Charlton and Norwich; it's about as worrying as an innocuous fart.
saints_is_the_south Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Good effort against the best team in the league, maybe could have nicked something at the end but not to be. Back to winning ways on next Saturday.
Master Bates Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Would rather have lost today than at Wembley in March
CWD Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 We've beaten Charlton and Norwich. Dont start that again
martyg1950 Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 A very close game - I've now got a reasonable view on where we are as a team & IMHO we are on a par with the league leaders. +1 That was the benchmark game, it's remarkable what stage Pards has got the team to in a short space of time. It's all good

Leslie Charteris Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Good, but not quite good enough. Never mind, is there a team better than Leeds in this division? Now give exeter a sound thrashing, get a good RB in and JPT final here we come!
Window Cleaner Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 well done lads, you did yourselves proud today by matching leeds. disappointing result in the end, but an encouraging performance. Pick yourselves up for Exeter now A great performance but at the end of the day they scored and we didn't. 0-0 was our best hope. We didn't shut the game down early enough.Taking Beckford off was desperation on their part, we needed to get Trotman and Wotton on seconds after that and just shut up shop with 5 or 6 at the back.
Micky Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Would have been my Xmas bonus if we had got anything from this game. Sounds like we were in the game and only lost to a decent goal as well - no disgrace. How we react will be important now - need to get back to winning ways.
Thedelldays Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 I just hope the fixtures dont catch up with us.. again, I hope we rest a few for the FA cup
Toadhall Saint Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 +1 That was the benchmark game, it's remarkable what stage Pards has got the team to in a short space of time. It's all good Yep and we were missing Morgan today. Couple that with the good possibility of a couple of additions in the near future and we should be worthy of a play off place.
benjii Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 I just hope the fixtures dont catch up with us.. again, I hope we rest a few for the FA cup Agree with that.
benjii Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 (unless we unveil a raft of superb signings shortly after!)
corsacar saint Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Not quite there yet, very disappointing but sounds like we did o.k. As has already been mentioned perhaps we missed Morgans passing in midfield.
St Landrew Posted 19 December, 2009 Author Posted 19 December, 2009 Looks like 15th If Leyton Orient and Yeovil don't win it's still 14th. Milton Keynes slipped up against Brentford. Apologies, you're right. Forgot about Brentford getting above us.
Stu Man Do Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Pretty gutted. We've failed to beat any of the top sides this season, we've failed to beat any of the top sides in the league this season which is a worry.. Norwich, Charlton, Huddersfield, Colchester and Leeds. I think you have to put those results into context to get any real meaning out of them thought mate; Norwich - Clearly a very good team in this division not many teams have beaten them this season Charlton - At the time top of the division and we were teh first team to take a point off of them at the Valley Huddersfield - Different squad different time same as with Swindon, may as well have been a different season Colchester - New manager effect, just look what happened with Brighton Leeds- Top of the division lost no games at home this season and we just about lost 1-0! Overall sounded that really they bossed the game and probably deserved the points, a win against Exeter will get us back on track though. Sounded VERY lucky that Lambert stayed on but I'm willing to wait and see what someone who actually went thinks on that one!! Why is it the referees in this division seem to let more of that sort of thing go basically un-punished?! (As in yellow card rather than the mandatory Red for violent conduct!)
Window Cleaner Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 I just hope the fixtures dont catch up with us.. again, I hope we rest a few for the FA cup doubt that, the play-offs are really a remote shot now.We could be 10 points behind the lead pack if Swindon get anything at all from 2 games. Then there's a big pack just behind who are all just a couple of points away. They won't all go into free-fall.
Thedelldays Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 doubt that, the play-offs are really a remote shot now.We could be 10 points behind the lead pack if Swindon get anything at all from 2 games. Window Cleaner Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 why are they a remote shot..? dont be so bloody daft Because we are no nearer the play-offs after 22 games than we were at the start. We just aren't making up any ground.
Thedelldays Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 Because we are no nearer the play-offs after 22 games than we were at the start. We just aren't making up any ground. of course not...
trousers Posted 19 December, 2009 Posted 19 December, 2009 I just hope the fixtures dont catch up with us.. again, I hope we rest a few for the FA cup I'm in favour of resting the key players in cup games when we have two games a week but (if memory serves me correctly) any player rested for the FA Cup game against Luton won't play first team football for 11 days which is too long IMO
