Chez Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 We should also make a sneaky bid for Oldhams winger, Chris Taylor - leeds were after him in the summer. He's not had the best of seasons so far, but he got 10 goals from the wing last year. I thought Abdu was decnt agsint us, I wonder how he has done since then. I agree Taylor might be worth a look. Shame we didn't snap up his mate Ardley in the summer.
EBS1980 Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 I read that yesterday or a few days ago on the Beeb's gossip column that Bournemouth are said to want £ 800,000 for Pittman. We know ML has the cash, bit is Pittman worth that much? Bournemouth have serious money troubles so lets do what clubs did to us in the summer when we were on the verge, only offer £200K for him. He's never worth £800K anyway.
SuperSAINT Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 I just feel with Pitman that we need to look at players who can play at this level, and the one above. I'm not convinced Pitman is a better choice than Jackson/Barnard. They're both proven at this level.
saint lard Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 (edited) Ok i know i will probably take some flak for this but i would like us to take a punt on Nolberto Solano, currently training with Colchester. Yes he is 35 but apparently playing very well, all be it for the current champions in Peru. Excellent dead ball specialist and a good winger, nothing to lose by giving him a trial. NickG Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 You can be certain that every agent knows we have money and are looking upwards. Therefore any player who could be attracted to us will be being touted as we speak.
eelpie Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 You can be certain that every agent knows we have money and are looking upwards. Therefore any player who could be attracted to us will be being touted as we speak. That is why we should target top players in clubs with financial problems. There must be quite a few now.
Tac-tics Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Michael Raynes Chris Taylor Zak Whitbread Cherleum Logan Lee Barnard Lee Carsley Elliot Ward
Foxstone Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 That is why we should target top players in clubs with financial problems. There must be quite a few now. Agree And we should look at some Championship Clubs for these players too if we can! McCarthy and Carle from Palace? Maybe even Henderson or Severin from Watford?
Saint_clark Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Michael Raynes Chris Taylor Zak Whitbread Cherleum Logan Lee Barnard Lee Carsley Elliot Ward Shaleum?
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Shaleum? Tranmere right back. Good old Irish name.
NickG Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 not bad starting list? http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10309~1640435,00.html one done already!
Tom28 Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Nobby Solano is trialling with Colchester - might be worth a punt for 6 months this season.
Window Cleaner Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 What's so great about this Jackson bloke then doesn't seem to score many goals for a sh*t hot striker. A fair few of his goals have come from the penalty spot.Connolly and Lallana have scored more goals from open play than he has.
VectisSaint Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Just a thought but Willo Flood is looking to go out on loan at least from Celtic. Signed by both Dave Jones and WGS, both reasonably shrewd judges. The guy seems to have lost his way a little and maybe the step down to a successful L1 side (or is it a step up from SPL?) might work well for him. Mowbray seems to be supportive of a loan move.
Saint_clark Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Tranmere right back. Good old Irish name. On loan from Man City though. Quality name.
Window Cleaner Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 On loan from Man City though. Quality name. On loan until the end of the season apparently, been out on loan quite a bit, never very far south though.
carljack Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 he really is rubbish! hes slow and clumsy! My Jersey scouts reckon we already have the best Jersey born player in Jack Boyle!
converted_saint Posted 22 December, 2009 Author Posted 22 December, 2009 On loan from Man City though. Quality name. Not quite as good as Exodus Geohagan...
jam Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Not quite as good as Exodus Geohagan... Scored on the weekend.
converted_saint Posted 22 December, 2009 Author Posted 22 December, 2009 Scored on the weekend. That's how I know of him lol! Is he any good?
Pat from Poole Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Agree And we should look at some Championship Clubs for these players too if we can! McCarthy and Carle from Palace? Maybe even Henderson or Severin from Watford? Isn't Henderson playing for Sheffield United? Campbell-Ryce from Barnsley is a winger I've always rated, caused us problems when at Southend.
scotty Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 why the fook would beckford wana come to us! he's going up with leeds almost certainly anyway, why would he want to move all the way down here to a team placed lower mid table We'd probably pay him more money. And its warmer down here. Who can tell?
The Godfather Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 Missing morgan was a big miss against Leeds and thats why we need quality back up in central midfield as wotton and James can do a job for the odd game but not good enough long term against real quality. But priority must be a centre half, striker, and wide left player as cover for Lallana because it looks if Pardew doesn't fancy Holmes although Gobern is a decent prospect but still inexperinced to play alot of games if Lallana gets injured. We need to keep an eye on the right back situation if Murty continues to struggle with injuries.
shurlock Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 Nobby Solano is trialling with Colchester - might be worth a punt for 6 months this season. He's been a class act wherever he's gone. V.shrewd if colchester get him. As well as playing in midfield, can also slot in at RB.
Andy_Porter Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 Isn't Henderson playing for Sheffield United? Campbell-Ryce from Barnsley is a winger I've always rated, caused us problems when at Southend. Henderson has been with Sheff Utd for ages, from the Watford squad Demerit would be a decent signing if he'd be willing to drop down a league. John-Joe O'toole would be a class signing but he's bound to end up signing permanently for Colchester.
saint_stevo Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 Jon Harley? Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was a name i heard mentioned on loan from Arsenal. Recently signed a new contract.
Saint_clark Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 That's how I know of him lol! Is he any good? He was on trial with us at the start of the season. He's about 7 feet tall apparently.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 Agree And we should look at some Championship Clubs for these players too if we can! McCarthy and Carle from Palace? Maybe even Henderson or Severin from Watford? Isn't Henderson playing for Sheffield United? Campbell-Ryce from Barnsley is a winger I've always rated, caused us problems when at Southend. There's a striker called Liam Henderson at Watford, who's young and fairly well thought of.
goso Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 Perhaps we should look at Tommy Oar - an 18 year old left winger from Australia - just selected for the next Australia squad. I suspect he wouldn't cost mush at the moment ...
Secret Site Agent Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 I am happy in the knowledge that whoever we get will be: a) A total surprise to us b) Worthy of us c) Someone who has had limited success somewhere else,. but will seem to mature and improve here with us. Also it is nice to know that we can afford them, and can look at the top drawer rather than end up with players just because they are all we can afford.

I suspect he wouldn't cost mush at the moment ... Looks pretty handy, the sort of skilful player that could fit very nicely into our side. Question is would he swap sunshine and 40 degrees in QLD for the dreary, cold winter of Southampton in January?!
iansums Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 We need to keep an eye on the right back situation if Murty continues to struggle with injuries. Murty IS struggling with injuries. I'd have thought a decent RB is a high priority. Clearly AP had suspicions about Murty's injury problems which is why he signed him on a specific contract.

I suspect he wouldn't cost mush at the moment ... He looks good, and at 18 he's got a lot of time to improve his game. Sign him up AP!

This is a bit like a kid waiting for Christmas this year after decade of fear.

In the end he dropped so deep Lambert could have marked in. Despite this you could still see he was a class act with pace, a touch and vision. Drop him in a side that opens teams up and creates plenty of chances and he looks like he'll score goals to me.

Gobern is an centre midfielder from what i can see. I think he will turn out to be a decent player, that said I still think a top class central midfielder is needed as James and Wotton are not the answer. Stephen Dawson at Bury is the man.
Chez Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 Murty IS struggling with injuries. I'd have thought a decent RB is a high priority. Clearly AP had suspicions about Murty's injury problems which is why he signed him on a specific contract. even when fit I'm not impressed. AS mentioned previously Logan is the best right back I've seen at SMS since Kyle Naughton from Sheffield United turned out against us. Pace is severely lacking in our back four and even a fullback can help, not to mention his threat going forward. Full back need to be able to attack as well as defend these days and Logan showed that by pushing on you can keep the winger quiet (as he did Lallana).
Chez Posted 23 December, 2009 Posted 23 December, 2009 He -Jackson- didn't play that day! really, christ I wonder who I was watching then. About time I bought a programme at games so I can identify these players. They must have another fella then that can play a bit. Not sure what number he was, 9 I think. I hold my hands up then, I don't know if Jackson is good enough for us.

Rest of the analysis is spot-on though. you wonder how he's scored so many goals in a team that seems so short of supply and ideas.
SaintRichmond Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 This should probably be put on a different thread but I couldn't be arsed to sift through and find it... I was at a Christmas do last night where I met the wife of one of Saints' physios who told me that Liebherr has released "sizeable funds" for Pardew to strengthen the playing squad in January. Interesting times ahead methinks! He will need to strengthen, because anybody who believes that Saints, a Div 3 Team, can prevent our "stars" being pinched by Prem and CCC Clubs, are, quite frankly, living in Cloud Cuckoo Land ( I'm not saying that anyone that leaves will enhance their career, but certain players WILL go IMHO ) IF we could keep all of the present First Team squad, then I believe that we would make the Play Offs, but if Pardew is forced into a Mini rebuilding job, then we won't, IMHO:D
Glasgow_Saint Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 AP should be given 20 million to spend in Jan if the board has any ambition.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 if you saw the Gillingham game you will have seen a striker completely stared on any supply whatsoever. That is odd because Simeon Jackson was injured when Saints played Gillingham and he missed the game completely. Who were you looking at?
Ludwig Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 John-Joe O'toole would be a class signing but he's bound to end up signing permanently for Colchester. He's ****.
up and away Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 He will need to strengthen, because anybody who believes that Saints, a Div 3 Team, can prevent our "stars" being pinched by Prem and CCC Clubs, are, quite frankly, living in Cloud Cuckoo Land ( I'm not saying that anyone that leaves will enhance their career, but certain players WILL go IMHO ) IF we could keep all of the present First Team squad, then I believe that we would make the Play Offs, but if Pardew is forced into a Mini rebuilding job, then we won't, IMHO:D I don't see any real danger of any player wanted at Saints by Pardew leaving in the January window, but after that you just cannot tell. If Cortese / Liebherr are prepared to spend large amounts in the January window, there will be a lot of pressure on Pardew to deliver promotion.
instinct Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 AP should be given 20 million to spend in Jan if the board has any ambition. Thats ridiculous. He should be getting at least £50 million.
Andy_Porter Posted 24 December, 2009 Posted 24 December, 2009 We should offer Giles Barnes a contract Maybe pay as you play. Anything else would be foolish.
