for_heaven's_Saint Posted 20 December, 2009 Posted 20 December, 2009 Pittman from Bournemouth?? Been mentioned before, would certainly be worth a shout IMO.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Don't think Beckford is the right type of signing for us. If Connolly keeps fit then we have more than enough in the strikers. What we really need is a tough attacking central midfielder with excellent distribution skills. Someone to compliment Hammond - I am still not fully convinced we have a man to do that, even in Spiderman. We also need a new RB to cover for Murty. AP also needs to decide who will partner Jaidi regularly - another man-mountain but with a bit of pace needed there.
EBS1980 Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 We do need another striker IMO. We only have 2, Rickie and David. What if one of them gets injured? suspended or just isn't playing well in a game. It would be good to have a forward on the bench who can come on to replace them and also to keep them on their toes and push them.
Smirking_Saint Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Pittman would be a great shout IMO, but then so would Jackson from Gillingham. Both would be unbelievable !!!!!!!!! Need a right back desperately, i can't see Murty making it much longer. Though i think Thomas seems to be doing ok for the moment. A decent CB with a bit of pace would not go a miss either. And yes, definately a midfielder, a strong holding type with decent distribution. With the right improvements we can definately make the playoffs.
Andy_Porter Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Need a right back desperately, i can't see Murty making it much longer. Though i think Thomas seems to be doing ok for the moment. Thomas isn't the answer at right back. Waigo done all the work for him on Saturday.
saint peach Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 I think Zoumana Bakayogo would be a good squad signing, who has been one of Tranmere's best players this season. Granted that's not too hard but the fact he is out of contract in January would suggest he's worth a punt until the end of the season to bolster the squad.
Um Bongo Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Lee Barnards Contact is up in june, should be able to get him cheap.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Been mentioned before' date=' would certainly be worth a shout IMO.[/quote'] Think opinion is divided on him... Some people reckon he could do a job for us, whereas others think he is sh!t and not good enough for League One. I don't know much about the lad.
JustMike Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Thomas isn't the answer at right back. Waigo done all the work for him on Saturday. sorry but Waigo was awful and did nothing. Thomas was left 2 on 1 because waigo kept wandering

Pardew signed him for Charlton so there are connections and regard there. As for another forward then Barnard has to be a target I would think.
Tom28 Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Moritz Volz please. What is it about that guy that no manager in the Championship or League One has snapped him up? No injury or history of injuries, he was well liked at Fulham, no attitude problem that is known of. He's 26. He would instantly be a long term solution to our right back position, has played Premiership football before so if we were to get promoted, he would be likely to be kept in the Championship next year. I cant understand why no one has snapped him up. Anyone know anything I don't? (smart ar*e answers need not apply)
RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 sorry but Waigo was awful and did nothing. Thomas was left 2 on 1 because waigo kept wandering I'm sorry but I disagree. Waigo did have to cover for Thomas, especially in the first half, when Thomas got sucked into the middle towards his more natural position of CB... When Waigo got back he got stuck in and definitely helped us defensively, and was quick on the break as well. He posed a threat on the attack and I don't think he was offside once. He wasn't awful, I'm not sure what game you were watching mate.

AP also needs to decide who will partner Jaidi regularly - another man-mountain but with a bit of pace needed there. I must agree completely with that. It is obvious. even in this league, that we lack pace at the back. It will be difficult to attract some of the strikers mentioned on this site, just to sit on the bench. AP has to make his mind up if he feels our youngsters are good enough to fill in. I would think it imperative for Patterson to go out on loan, despite the fact that he does not appear to want to. That will at least confirm the position one way or another. Failing that, Papa could move into the middle more and we look to another pacey winger. The Antonio debate then begins again!
Window Cleaner Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 volz would be great...seems odd that he is still not playing He's probably asking for far too much money. If he's not playing then there's a reason for it.
Victor Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 "Marquee" signing. How I've come to admire lazy b****** journalists. Somebody plucks a word out their a*** and all the lemmings follow. It seems that in addition to large tents, a canvas awning in front of a doorway is also a marquee. Well according to the "Seppos" ,(Australian for septic tanks = Yanks). So the welcome someone receives from a canvas cover hung with lights and baubles now becomes a "Marquee" signing. Tenuous at best I would have thought, but who can fathom the press? Sorry to have ranted about that, when one gets old and grumpy, all manner of things p*** one off and I've been waiting to get that off my chest for some time. Andy Todd is our local Perth Glory F.C."marquee" signing, so you can get an idea how much it's used out here. Thank you for your time in this matter. Apart from that, how glad I am to see Saints going so well. Hopefully only a minor hiccup against Leeds. Merry Christmas to all. Thankyou. That is certainly a relief - I was frightened we were returning to the circus that was SFC over the last few seasons when the clowns were in charge.

He wasn't awful, I'm not sure what game you were watching mate. did he once get down the wing and cross? No. How many times did Thomas have 2 on 1? I lost count. Waigo got stuck in once of note in the first half and went walkabout in the 2nd, hence why he got took off. Others around me were saying the same thing, only using worse language.

Pretty sure he did get down the wing and cross at least once, actually. How many times did they break down their left when Thomas was stuck in a more central position? It's funny, everyone around me was saying how Waigo was doing alright, getting back and that. Guess it's a matter of opinion innit.

Junior Mullet Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Pittman from Bournemouth?? In the Lambert mould. Kinda. Great eye for goal and can score from just about anywhere given the opportunity. Scored a great overhead kick a few weeks back. Bit slow but strong.
Junior Mullet Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 If we could only sign one player, which position would it be? Simple. A holding midfielder that looks for the ball and can play simple passes to team-mates. Two skills that are completely lost on Wotton. That would allow Hammond to bomb on and threaten the oppositions goal even more than he currently does and afford the defence some much needed cover. I guess I am thinking a Quashie-style player but with a tad more positional discipline.
shurlock Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 (edited) Pretty sure he did get down the wing and cross at least once, actually. How many times did they break down their left when Thomas was stuck in a more central position? It's funny, everyone around me was saying how Waigo was doing alright, getting back and that. Guess it's a matter of opinion innit. Thought Waigo got stuck in - failed to track the runner once which led to a goal-scoring chance and a cross-field pass of his was dangerously picked off but I generally thought he was sound defensively. Thomas just gave him to much to do. The bigger shame was that he didnt show much interest in going forward, repeatedly playing the easy lay-off (invariably hoofed forward) and every ball he and the team won was immediately handed back to Leeds on a silver plate. Window Cleaner Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Would be good...but P'boro have said today he's up for sale - at £4m!!! can't see anyone signing him for that... I can't see us spending much money at all.I certainly don't think we'll be paying 2 million for anybody "An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly. In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed. While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking. "
saint lard Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Beckford has turned down Leeds' latest improved offer. Looks like he is off to pastures new in January then.
itchen_dan Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Beckford has turned down Leeds' latest improved offer. Looks like he is off to pastures new in January then. Where does it say this?
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 do you really think Hammond is CCC standard? Is that the general consensus on here? For me he's a decent footballer, but he's too slow. He's good enough to play in the Championship judging on recent players who have played at that level. Gillett (who i rate btw) is currently playing for in form Doncaster and i think Hammond is a better player.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Apparently he spoke to Bates today. Don't shoot the messenger. what Master Bates from this forum? not likely!!
Bakovnetski Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Luca Toni is available in January from Bayern Munich, could be back up for Lambert ;-)
saintsfannick Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 why the fook would beckford wana come to us! he's going up with leeds almost certainly anyway, why would he want to move all the way down here to a team placed lower mid table
joffystevens Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 I think a quality winger would be good and send Papa Waigo back to Fiorentina, i agree we need a decent cb as well and possibly a rb so James doesnt have to play out of position. Murty doesn't look like the body is gonna allow him to play a decent run of games!! I don't think we will get Beckford he'll demand far too high a wage and his attitude is dreadful
converted_saint Posted 21 December, 2009 Author Posted 21 December, 2009 volz would be great...seems odd that he is still not playing If he's unattached, we wouldn't need to wait for the transfer window would we? That being the case, I think if he aint here now, he aint ever going to be.
Rebel Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Max Gradel - he would give us another option at left wing and allow us to play Lallana in central midfield, as a second striker or on the right. He's got pace and keeps scoring goals for Leeds from the bench. He's only on loan from Leicester so he certainly one we should be looking at. As is Vokes - only on loan at Leeds - he would make a great back up to Lambert - and as a Saints fan would give a bit extra. Similarly I think Brett Pitman would give us another great back up to Lambert. Probably don't need both though. Brian Howard to add strength to midfield if he's still not playing at Reading come January. Again as a Saints fans he's give that bit extra. Lukas Juktiewicz - he's on loan at Motherwell from Everton and has scored 7 goals in 13 games - he's from Southampton (but with Irish and Polish ancestry) originally via Swindon and a loan at Plymouth last season. Loan's up in January so he could be a real possibility.
Andy_Porter Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Brian Howard would be a fantastic signing, just what we need imo.
markr27 Posted 21 December, 2009 Posted 21 December, 2009 Brian is apparently happy at Reading, and is out for a while with injury. I have it on good authority he's rather annoyed at this fact, with the Liverpool FA Cup game looming on the horizon!

I have it on good authority he's rather annoyed at this fact, with the Liverpool FA Cup game looming on the horizon! I expect he is also annoyed that we released him a few years ago. He went to Chelsea on trial and then Swindon I believe, before he disappeared and then resurfaced again at Barnsley.
Chez Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 RB: Logan (the guy on loan at Tranmere from Man City) CB: King (Gillingham) or McCracken (Wycombe) CM Kevin Nicholls (Luton) or Stephen Dawson (Bury) CF: Simeon Jackson (Gillingham
S-Clarke Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 RB: Logan (the guy on loan at Tranmere from Man City) CB: King (Gillingham) or McCracken (Wycombe) CM Kevin Nicholls (Luton) or Stephen Dawson (Bury) CF: Simeon Jackson (Gillingham Good shouts, totally agree with Logan, but I think Nicholls will see out his career with Luton tbh. For me - CB - Whitbread / Elliott Ward CM - Jimmy Abdu / Racon / Rooney ST - Jackson / Barnard We should also make a sneaky bid for Oldhams winger, Chris Taylor - leeds were after him in the summer. He's not had the best of seasons so far, but he got 10 goals from the wing last year.
Roger Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 did he once get down the wing and cross? No. How many times did Thomas have 2 on 1? I lost count. Dont be too hard on waigo, he was superb against norwich and deserves to play against exter in my opinion.

Send papa back, we have him til the end of the season. The guy has scored seven goals in nine starts! What the hell is wrong with some people on here. Did you go to the norwich game? He is the reason we have a great chance to go to wembley. We need a right back very badly, a quick centre back, cover at left back and if harding has another bad spell. We also need a big centre forward as cover for ricky. Morgan is class.
Belgiansaint Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 I read that yesterday or a few days ago on the Beeb's gossip column that Bournemouth are said to want £ 800,000 for Pittman. We know ML has the cash, bit is Pittman worth that much?

Um Bongo Posted 22 December, 2009 Posted 22 December, 2009 Carl Baker might be worth a look - Stockport player. They have real money trouble.
