Beckford is a real possibility

Beckford will want to play at a higher level - he would have seen yesterday that Leeds are a better side than Saints and have far more chance of being in the CCC next year.

I cant see him taking a step backwards.

Right back, central midfield, up front are where we need to strengthen IMO. We are not controlling games from midfield and I would like to see us get someone like Hoolahan from Norwich.

That's a good shout - he was excellent against us in the JPT the other day.

If we can't get Leeds players because they've got an eye on the CCC, unlikely we'll get anyone from Norwich. Having seen both teams now first-hand, Norwich are the best team in this league.

Only if we offer silly money in January. It would be the biggest statement of intent we could possibly make, though!

Wouldn't suprise me to see Leeds look at signing Jackson as a straight replacement for him.

Not really, his contract is up in the summer.

Look at when Spurs signed Kranjcar for silly money like £2million.

Unlikely I agree, but somebody like him. Plus Hoolahan would be cup-tied in the JPT. ;)

Beckford is a real possibility

I find it intriguing at how Pard's has talked him up in the press in the last week or so.

Yesterday he made the comment ''after their BEST player was substituted, we though we'd done enough''

but in reality, he was awful on the day. The comments - ''Lambo and Beckford would be a great partnership'' stood my ears up a bit as well.

There's obviously a possibility.

Lambert has been quoted as saying that Norwich will only accept bids of around £8m for him - can't see us going for him, you can end up having too many ''skillfull'' players. Lallana is on-par with him.

Thought Beckford was OK yesterday - he was ****e in front of goal but even then still caused us problems by (i) dropping deep to receive the ball and bring others in, demonstrating that he's not just a one-trick, pacy ball-over-the-top player and (ii) managing to get into goal scoring positions.

Whilst it was easy to see why Leeds fans dislike him, he was clearly down on confidence as the crowd boo'd him before kick off what he has in abundance is pace & skill. IMHO he would be a quality addition to our squad.

That said, it aint never gonna happen!

Agree that Lallana is as good, if not better than him. But whereas Norwich play Hoolahan in the hole, we put Lallana out on the left that doesnt give the same freedom to roam or to influence the game. Norwich get more out of Hoolahan than we get out of AL.

Simon Grayson's take on the Beckford scenario:-

"Hopefully the next time he puts on a white shirt he will score goals and the game will go his way. What happened makes no difference to my thinking about Jermaine's future at the club. He will probably be leaving in the summer unless a stupid offer comes in for him in January. I am quite happy when some players come off disappointed. We don't want them laughing and joking when they are taken off

As stated by me previously, I would actually think twice before signing him, his composure was utterly non existant yesterday. Equally though, you cannot argue with the goal scoring stats.

that was yesterday..

he is a goal machine normally

I wonder what leeds fans would think about Lambert yesterday..?

Normally? The leeds fans I speak to were moaning about him BEFORE the game. And the speed with which the crowd turned against him - almost from the first chance he fluffed- suggests something is up.

I just think Antonio has been more effective than Papa that's all. I like his pace.

I agree with you about his pace and it's great having a player like him to call on.

But I'm convinced that he is best used as a sub right now. Giving him a simple brief to have a go at the defence and try to make something happen takes advantage of his pace, directness an enthusiasm while maybe hiding some of his weaknesses.

I see him as a bit of a hand grenade that can be thrown into the mix to shake things up a bit.

Leeds fans view on Beckford...

http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=323&fid=14&sty=2&act=1&mid=2123552911&page=1

They were hardley complimentary about lambert or Saints in general.

Amazing how quickly they've turned on a player who's scored about a Third of their league goals. They don't score all that many anyway and without Beckford they'd probably be mid table. Leeds force is their defence, about 10 goals conceded in the League this season,Take away the bloke who makes the 1-0s

happen and you're nothing.Still Leeds fans always have had a crap mentality.

I think you only have to read a small number of the threads on that board to realise the average mentality of people who frequent it. There's some crackpots on this forum for sure, but they're eminently more tolerable than some of the complete mongtards there seem to be on there.

Ooh I don't know, wait for some player or other to get done for some minor offence or other and watch the "fans" unfurl on him.Remember Beats and his DD

or BWP and Dyer

From Leeds fans forum about Beckford:

"I think Beckford will be leaving now in January and i wouldn't play him in the next league matches after today"

and

"If he wants to go let him go, i think he is being very badly advised"

"The last time he scored an important goal against a decent side was 2 months ago against Norwich and he nearly missed that one - anybody coming in with money for him we should snatch their hands off"

"He has no value at all really, nobodys going to pay a fee for someone they can get on a free from May"

" did get told today there is 2 offers going on the table in january for beckford how true we will find out.

barcodes 2.5 million cash up front

wolves 6 million in installments depending as well on if he keeps them up"

So is he worth bidding for?

i hope Beckford can play with Rooney and Sodje......

Carsley would be a very very good signing, likely? Possibly be behind Championship clubs who would want him

Saint stevo, seriously **** off you sad little tosser, I have'nt even said Beckford is set to join Saints, Its public knowledge that Pards went for Jermain and I will strive to get hold of the Charlton programme where Sodje says he had interest from Saints.

go away you sad lifeless nonce.

Unnecessary as well. Whatever we want him for just eludes me completely.

We have 2 strikers who score goals, plus a couple of midfielders who are scoring as well.

because he scores goals....alot of them

Posted
lambert yes....should we just not bother with any other strikers then..?

Because we have Connolly who's got a few goals in not a lot of games.

What we don't want to do is make our squad top heavy, not that it already isn't.

A CD and a RB are really all we need.

behave...we have to rest connolly for some games and he is getting older.

beckford offers real pace up front and bangs 'em in also

how good would it be picking 2 from lambert, connolly and beckford..?

That won't suit everybody. They all want to play and score goals.

Lallana has just 3 goals less than Beckford,we don't need any more strikers cos we'd have no room for them in the side. Fortunately AP knows that and won't be doing anything silly.
