Dan Butterfield age 30 years Right Back Palace (I am told his replacement CLYNE.. in the side is a better long term prospect.) But Butterfielf..injury permitting has a lot of experience for our level..Played for Palace and on loan to Charlton .. Good right Back.Does he still have the legs.

Patrick MacCarthy....Cenre Half 26 years...ex Leicester and Charlton..6' 2" Commanding Centre Half..Purchased from Leicester by Pards for Charlton £600,000....Not in Palace side today or on bench...injured? Palace did get Claude Davis and have Dury and Hill...But need money.....Not sure of injury situation.

Paersonal opinion.....PNE want more money for trotters than we are offering..if we are offering any such thing.....

As others have said..Elliot Ward, ****tu, Whitbread (lack of games?) etc etc....

My money is on MAcCarthy.

If only Arsenal would Loan Gilbert for right back.

I suspect Ward to be the more likely target.

What did Pards actually say?

a lot of players available but not many better than what we have.

have made 2 offers to test the market.

lost Mellis and Trottman so they need replacing

I very much doubt its McCarthy as he is out for the rest of the season according to Sky Sports News

Two good players with good experience but unsure of their fitness at present....Until that is you updated me.....I will have to go and have another look at Vidic and Messi...better bets for a big club like our mighty Saints....Good luck Ben.

lmao! just thought they were one of the two randomest players you could name lol. do you know whether the bristol rovers guy played today? lines or something?

Posted

Chris Lines.......Not sure but he is a regular in first team.....6'2" tall 24/25 with a turn of pace.....Is in Saints sights...not sure....Rovers lost to Milwall on 28th 2-0....Morrison who I have seen play for Stevenage before is a useful goalscorer for Milwall.

Mind you I had seen Liptak play for Stevenage. before and he was useless....Back in Hungary thank goodness

Anyway I must go..keep up the support for Saints..your club needs you Ben...Happy New Year.

Wonder who the two bids submitted by saints are for?

Ward is certainly possible (hopefully)

I'm hoping the other is Jackson. A few teams will be looking at him for certain, so an early bid wouldn't be the worst idea.

according to the B rovers forum, Leicester have joined the race for Chris Lines - but we have already made a bid of £650k -apparently he's house hunting in Southampton :o

not sure how they'd know that tbf...

they are very mixed on him, as i mentioned before from my rovers mate who said that with the resources we have we could do better. Im worried that he is too similar to what we have.

Not an overwhelming vote of confidence from their fans is it ?

One extract caught my eye,

i believe he is best played as an attacking centre midfielder. Very good with the ball at his feet running at defences, spreads the ball well, Not the strongest or most physical and his defensive side of the game let's him down.

Do we need an attacking mf,as we have Lallana and Schneiderlin as creative players, its probably a right sided mf we lack,or a good ballwinner and motivator (an Alan Ball or Jimmy Case type).

Lines is young so no reason AP and Wilkins can't develop his game.If we don't go up this season then we'll probably see AL and/or MS leave so good planning ahead perhaps ?

guy moussi

has a mysterious ankle injury which is p*ssing Billy Davies off a bit, because he wants him to play for them. The can't find much wrong with said ankle but Moussi says it is troubling him.

The two I know Pardew is very interested in signing is Chris Lines (Bristol Rovers) and the other one is a defender and has Elliott in his name so I am assuming Eliott Ward (Coventry) or Steve Elliott (Bristol Rovers)

Sounds like a direct replacement for Mellis to me. From that description, sounds like he'd deployed best in a 4-5-1.

Interesting audio interesting with Lenny Lawrence about him, here.

Interesting, thanks for that.

I found this part interesting...

''if someone comes along and offers him the same sort of Money that ricke got offered, then he'll go - but if they only offer him a bit more than we can afford, i think he needs to take a long look at it.''

references to our interest maybe?

Exactly what we need, a quick hard running attacker out of central midfield.

We need someone in the Lampard / Gerrard mould.

All four of our central midfielders are content with just sitting and passing a bit, none of them bust a gut to get into the box and score a goal.

Why would Pardew only be looking at the pool of 'available' players? Surely he should be looking at ALL players and targetting the ones he feels he needs? 'Available' or not. Surely?

Lampard and Gerrard like that.

Have a very bad feeling lallana will be off. He seems too good for us at mo. Lines the replacement? Bloody hope not. Need right back and CB.

Adam wont leave!

Just brought a house with GF emily in wimbourne Nr Bmouth

Just for everyone saying he will be going! HE WILL NOT!

Gordon Strachan has a house in Hampshire.

Maybe WGS is planning to **** Emily when Lallana goes.

"There's a lot of players available in squads but not many that are good enough for us. We'll have to work hard and see what comes up."

Thats why you need to offer top dollar to persuade the 'better' players to be sold.

I am not sure about this lines, not sure he is the player we really need. IMO if he is being brought in to replace Mellis then we will be going backwards, Mellis is younger, i feel looked bright and has a very good future ahead of him.

Our priority needs to be a defensive holding midfielder or a midfielder that is going to break forward and make the box, it is a shame Mellis went back to chelsea and i believe he could have been the latter if employed correctly.

But Mellis was on loan and Lines would be a Saints player so how is that relevant?
