Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Have we signed or sold anyone yet? if not why not!?
Matthew Le God Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Have we signed or sold anyone yet? if not why not!? Because it is a Bank Holiday and the FA's offices are shut so no team can register new players until Monday.
John B Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Because it is a Bank Holiday and the FA's offices are shut so no team can register new players until Monday. You seem to be wrong as this is a list of signings from the BBC WEBSITE 1 January Jim Goodwin [Huddersfield - Oldham] Loan Adam Hinshelwood [Aldershot - Wycombe] Free Lee Johnson [bristol City - Derby] Loan Kayode Odejayi [barnsley - Colchester] Undisclosed John-Joe O'Toole [Watford - Colchester] Undisclosed Kristian Timar [Plymouth - Oldham] Loan Darren Ward [Wolves - Millwall] Free So to answer Glasgow Saint we have neither bought or sold at the moment but two of our promotion rivals have

None of them are registered to play as none can be officially complete until rubber stamped when the office opens on Monday.

None of them are registered to play as none can be officially complete until rubber stamped when the office opens on Monday. Transfers - January 2010 The January 2010 transfer window is open and the period for buying and selling has been extended to 1700 GMT on Monday, 1 February because 31 January falls on a Sunday. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 January Jim Goodwin [Huddersfield - Oldham] Loan Adam Hinshelwood [Aldershot - Wycombe] Free Lee Johnson [bristol City - Derby] Loan Kayode Odejayi [barnsley - Colchester] Undisclosed John-Joe O'Toole [Watford - Colchester] Undisclosed Kristian Timar [Plymouth - Oldham] Loan Darren Ward [Wolves - Millwall] Free Surely that proves we have not bought or sold anyone yet
Chez Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Never thought Drren Ward would drop down to our division. He would have been ideal.
Matthew Le God Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 The January 2010 transfer window is open and the period for buying and selling has been extended to 1700 GMT on Monday, 1 February because 31 January falls on a Sunday. What point are you trying to argue here? As you said the window is extended until the 1st Feb because the 31st Jan is a Sunday(thus the offices are shut). The offices are also shut on new years day so any deals announced by clubs are only in principal and are still to be rubber stamped on Monday 4th January.

Somebody asked the question have we signed or sold any players The answer is no but you gave an answer which appears to be wrong as the window is open Thats all
Matthew Le God Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 The answer is no but you gave an answer which appears to be wrong as the window is open Its not wrong because it is a Bank Holiday today and the weekend for the next 2 days. Meaning any rubber stamping of deals can't happen until Monday.
John B Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Its not wrong because it is a Bank Holiday today and the weekend for the next 2 days. Meaning any rubber stamping of deals can't happen until Monday. I think you are a little pedantic Other clubs have been involved in the transfer window but we have not
Genk Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Quite funny that Beckford is only going up to the Championship' date=' I bet Leeds fans still think they're a bigger club than Newcastle.[/quote'] Beckford is not a premiership quality striker (which newcastle will be in May). Championship at best in my opinion. Leeds will hold out for any deal until deadline day to get the max amount of money for him.
NickG Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 You seem to be wrong as this is a list of signings from the BBC WEBSITE 1 January Jim Goodwin [Huddersfield - Oldham] Loan Adam Hinshelwood [Aldershot - Wycombe] Free Lee Johnson [bristol City - Derby] Loan Kayode Odejayi [barnsley - Colchester] Undisclosed John-Joe O'Toole [Watford - Colchester] Undisclosed Kristian Timar [Plymouth - Oldham] Loan Darren Ward [Wolves - Millwall] Free So to answer Glasgow Saint we have neither bought or sold at the moment but two of our promotion rivals have All 3 signings by our rivals are players they already had on loan, so no different than likely Antonio extension and the Trottman would have been if his club agreed.
Smirking_Saint Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Darren Ward is a big big signing for Millwall, esp for free. I agree chez, he would have been perfect
NickG Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Never thought Drren Ward would drop down to our division. He would have been ideal. he's been with Millwall 3 months
NickG Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 I think you are a little pedantic Other clubs have been involved in the transfer window but we have not so what?! Two teams have announced their current loan signings have been extended - hardly earth shattering ambition leaving us behind! Pardew has said Antonio is likely to be staying.

Matthew Le God Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 I think you are a little pedantic Other clubs have been involved in the transfer window but we have not They are just extensions to current deals on loans. Saints are likely to be in the process of doing that with Antonio.
John B Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 so what?! Two teams have announced their current loan signings have been extended - hardly earth shattering ambition leaving us behind! Pardew has said Antonio is likely to be staying. I was just answering somebody's question that we have neither sold or bought anybody as yet. Nothing more nothing else
John B Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 They are just extensions to current deals on loans. Saints are likely to be in the process of doing that with Antonio. Yes I I agree but at the moment we have neither got anybody in or moved anybody out despite the window being open. I would be very surprised if we had
NickG Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 I was just answering somebody's question that we have neither sold or bought anybody as yet. Nothing more nothing else fair enough. Can't remember the stat but something like 95% of the whole transfer window activity is in the last 6 hours (made up the figures but something like that!)
Andy_Porter Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Ward in, Whitbread out? That's the first thing I thought when I saw Ward had moved.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 I wonder if this Jan will be as exciting as Jan 09. The buzz on SWF when we used the window to signed Ryan Smith & Lee Molyneux!! Oooh exciting times - surely lightening wont strike twice? Or will it? or wont it? or will it?
Chez Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 If we were interested in Whitbread why didn't we try to sig him in the summer?
John B Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 fair enough. Can't remember the stat but something like 95% of the whole transfer window activity is in the last 6 hours (made up the figures but something like that!) There was activity too yesterday according to the BBC In general there seems to be a lot of activity through out the window http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8179754.stm especially for Lower League Clubs but more at the end I follow the transfers on the BBC pages
RonManager Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 If we were interested in Whitbread why didn't we try to sig him in the summer? Maybe we did. It would be good to know all the failed bids etc but we won't, unless of course we do sign him/a player, and then the history of the deal comes out.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 fair enough. Can't remember the stat but something like 95% of the whole transfer window activity is in the last 6 hours (made up the figures but something like that!) Not true - not even close 31st Jan 09 transfers completed = 8 The busiest days last Jan were the 15 & 26th Jan (25 transfers) & Jan 2nd (27 transfers)
Andy_Porter Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 If we were interested in Whitbread why didn't we try to sig him in the summer? I think he's been injured.
NickG Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Never thought Darren Ward would drop down to our division. He would have been ideal. Darren Ward is a big big signing for Millwall, esp for free. I agree Che, he would have been perfect That's the first thing I thought when I saw Ward had moved. He went to Millwall in Sept in loan window, has played for them ever since and now had deal made permanent (guessing part of loan deal?) Most of his career was at Millwall previously anyway - not sure why this is big deal??
Chez Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 I wonder if this Jan will be as exciting as Jan 09. The buzz on SWF when we used the window to signed Ryan Smith & Lee Molyneux!! Oooh exciting times - surely lightening wont strike twice? Or will it? or wont it? or will it? we were totally skint. Every sane person knew it and expected us to sign no one. Despite this I was still dissapointed with those two signings.
John B Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 If we were interested in Whitbread why didn't we try to sig him in the summer? May have been interested if Jaidi did not get clearance from the League
NickG Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Not true - not even close 31st Jan 09 transfers completed = 8 The busiest days last Jan were the 15 & 26th Jan (25 transfers) & Jan 2nd (27 transfers) think I was thinking about the summer one when sky were talking about it and thought it likely to be same- suppose this window is generally a lot quieter.
Chez Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Maybe we did. It would be good to know all the failed bids etc but we won't, unless of course we do sign him/a player, and then the history of the deal comes out. Kenny Jacket said after the P'Boro deal fell through that no other offers had been made.
Andy_Porter Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 we were totally skint. Every sane person knew it and expected us to sign no one. Despite this I was still dissapointed with those two signings. Ryan Smith wasn't half as bad as people made out, he was just managed terribly I saw him the reserves playing on the left and he looked dangerous then every time Wotte played him he'd be on the right and he wouldn't be able to do anything. I think a run of games on the left and he could have been half decent for us. Lee Molyneus however is one of the worst players I've seen in a Southampton shirt.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 think I was thinking about the summer one when sky were talking about it and thought it likely to be same- suppose this window is generally a lot quieter. over 300 transfers last Jan http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7806817.stm
Chez Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 May have been interested if Jaidi did not get clearance from the League but we signed Trottman afterwards as well. Strikes me that we had the funds and the opportunity, but I would guess that Whitbread wanted to play in the CCC to giv himself half a chance of making the USA WC squad.
Chez Posted 1 January, 2010 Posted 1 January, 2010 Ryan Smith wasn't half as bad as people made out, he was just managed terribly I saw him the reserves playing on the left and he looked dangerous then every time Wotte played him he'd be on the right and he wouldn't be able to do anything. I think a run of games on the left and he could have been half decent for us. Lee Molyneus however is one of the worst players I've seen in a Southampton shirt. Smith was lightweight and in the early games he was extremely casual. Instead of starting games sharp and snappy, he would be on his heals and was second best to everything. He didn't show not nearly enough desire for my liking. I'm not talking about guts and bottle, he didn't have either, I'm just talking about a will to win. He looked like he wasn't all that fussed. Yes he had a great trick or two and he could beat a man - the second hardest thing to do on a pitch, and the more he played the more dangerous he looked. But we needed every player to give everything and more. Compare his, and while we are at it, Lee Holmes' work rate and desire to chase back, to that of Antonio, Waigo or Lallana. Flashy skillfull players can work hard backwards as these three do. Smith nd Holmes don't. agree full about Molyneux.
benjamsandwich28 Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Two good signings for Colchester in there too IMO. O'Toole is a tidy player for this level. Kayode Odejayi [barnsley - Colchester] Undisclosed John-Joe O'Toole [Watford - Colchester] Undisclosed
The Godfather Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Two good signings for Colchester in there too IMO. O'Toole is a tidy player for this level. Kayode Odejayi [barnsley - Colchester] Undisclosed John-Joe O'Toole [Watford - Colchester] Undisclosed O'Toole is on loan from Watford.
Mewsta Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 O'Toole is on loan from Watford. He was... now a permanent signing! http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_5818024,00.html
Glasgow_Saint Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Monday is the key day imo - can see this being the busiest day for transfers this Jan (across the clubs). We will no doubt drag our transfers out ala Jaidi - lots of 'will he' 'wont he' sign threads to come imo. Should be good fun though!
Saint Fen Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Beckford is not a premiership quality striker (which newcastle will be in May). Championship at best in my opinion. Leeds will hold out for any deal until deadline day to get the max amount of money for him. Got to agree, don't think he is actually premiership quality, yes he will get goals in this league cause of his pace but his touch is poor, it will be interesting to see how he gets on in the Championship. Jaidi and Perry had him in their pocket the other week, spoke to a couple of Leeds fans who totally agree. The other thing is his attitude is poor. Leeds are no doubt going up so why would he come here anyway?
trousers Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Can't remember the stat but something like 95% of the whole transfer window activity is in the last 6 hours (made up the figures but something like that!) True, but if Saints are still going to mount a serious push for the playoffs, and Pardew believes that we need to strengthen in certain areas to give us the best chance of that, then we need to sign those players before the next league game rather than towards the end of Jan. If we don't make any significant signings next week I'll be starting to ponder.
Tom28 Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 True but if Saints are still going to mount a serious push for the playoffs, and Pardew believes that we need to strengthen in certain areas to give us the best chance of that, then we need to sign those players before the next league game rather than towards the end of Jan. If they don't sign someone significant in the next week, trousers is going to be pondering. NO-ONE wants that.
Ludwig Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Two good signings for Colchester in there too IMO. O'Toole is a tidy player for this level. Kayode Odejayi [barnsley - Colchester] Undisclosed John-Joe O'Toole [Watford - Colchester] Undisclosed He's not a tidy player; he's a very messy player.
WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 AP has had 4 months to plan his moves in the Jan transfer window.I would be surprised if we haven't got a couple of players lined up especially a cb and back up striker for starters. It certainly sounds like 4 or 5 signings could be brought in this month. We doneed to improve our squad. IMHO we need to strengthen our squad very fast this month as we have must win games against Huddersfield,Millwall & Swindon if we are likely to reach the play offs. Our record against the top ten sides is not good enough and needs to improve in the 2nd half of the season
doggface Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Wonder who the two bids submitted by saints are for?
trousers Posted 2 January, 2010 Posted 2 January, 2010 Really? Quick, someone get a message to Pardew and Cortese. If they don't sign someone significant in the next week, trousers is going to be pondering. NO-ONE wants that. hmmmm... Whoops, pondering has started early...
