Smirking_Saint Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 I must admit, the reo coker link is a bit pie in the sky TBH, but then, stranger things have happened
John B Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 I must admit, the reo coker link is a bit pie in the sky TBH, but then, stranger things have happened Such as what?
Smirking_Saint Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 Such as what? Pompey won the FA Cup Man City signed Robinho
Badger Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 Such as what? Saints signing a current European Player of the year, for example.
Pat from Poole Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 I've heard rumours that we will bring in upto 6 more players this transfer window with most of them permanent.I've also heard from a very good source that AP has an open cheque book to buy the right players at the right price so expect some money to be spent if he can get the players he wants. Targets like Lines,Barnard,Ward,Whitbread and even possibly Jackson are possible.Preston are skint and looking to sell players so maybe we will move for Trotman. I do think Reo Coker & Beckford are unrealistic targets imho. No doubt most of our signings will not even be on our radar on this board until they arrive like Hammond & Lambert but I am confident that there will be a number of additions to our squad Preston can't be that skint if they've just sacked their manager and taken St.Ledger back from Boro.
Smirking_Saint Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 Preston can't be that skint if they've just sacked their manager and taken St.Ledger back from Boro. They sacked him as he gave the board an ultimatum about selling players. M'Boro did not want to take up the option on him
Pat from Poole Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 The one story doing the rounds bemusing me is Nobby Solano possibly signing for Colchester. There's one deal we ought to gazump, not least to annoy Hoofball Boothroyd. I think he is a HCDAJFU as well. Class act.

Smirking_Saint Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 Who is this Chris Lines fella ?? Any good ???

DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 (Ta) Pants, I was hoping it was about Reo
Chez Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 Preston can't be that skint if they've just sacked their manager and taken St.Ledger back from Boro. St Ledger is homesick and doesn't want to go back, the ball is now in Boro's court as to whether they force him to come back for the second part of the deal. Preston are short of cash. They get bailed out every year by a rich benefactor, but they still need to sell.
Chez Posted 30 December, 2009 Posted 30 December, 2009 I must admit, the reo coker link is a bit pie in the sky TBH, but then, stranger things have happened `a bit'! Absolutely no chance whatsoever. Half the Premiership would take him off Villa's hands never mind the CCC.
Joesaint Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 someone on 606 think we have Kweku Asampong http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A61280426 I don't know anything about him, hope he is fast though.

trousers Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 I've also heard from a very good source that AP has an open cheque book to buy the right players at the right price 'Quite high with a cap' rather than 'open' I'd have thought?

''Kweku Asampong Taylor is known for his dribbling skills on the ball, free kicks, pace, shot power, massive influence within the team, two good quick feet, adaptability on both wings and anywhere up front. He brings consistent pressure on defences with his deft touches, superb ball control and an amazing ability to get behind defenders and cross to fellow strikers. His skill has been likened to that of Rivaldo. In his best seasons he had an average close to one goal per game in the domestic league. He was once the top goal scorer playing 19 matches and scoring 19 goals. He has been regarded by some as the best local player Ghana has ever produced.''
St.Patrik Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 Why on earth would someone change his Wiki and link him with Saints - if this is a fake rumour someone is wery good at making things up.

Alan Pardew the team's manager stated that he was a "lifelong friend of the successful striker, and looks to see Charles "Dribbler" Taylor slot stright into his side.'' i think people have too much time on their hands, or play FM2010 too much.

St.Patrik Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 takes a few seconds to change a wiki page I know - but why on earth link him with Saints ? If hes that good - the new Ronaldo - well he should be linked with bigger teams I guess ?
St.Patrik Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 And according to 606 Saints will sign this player to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slawomir_Peszko
S-Clarke Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 And according to 606 Saints will sign this player to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slawomir_Peszko saw that y/day, i've got a feeling that the people posting these on 606 at the moment are having a laugh.
St.Patrik Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 Yeah - they should have better things to do then make up silly rumours - its new years eve today - getting drunk is one option : )
Joesaint Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 It really sounds like pompy may have to sell most of there squad, is there and good youth players or realistic players anyone can think of? It is an opportunity maybe to get somthing on the cheap with quality! I don't know but lets just see...
Window Cleaner Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 And according to 606 Saints will sign this player to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slawomir_Peszko Hertha Berlin and Lille(to a somewhat lesser extent) having been looking at him. The asking price is thought to be 1.5/2 million euros (work that out for yourselves).

Not that I'm saying Waigo isn't good, just that he hasn't quite lived up to the 'Serie A' tag that he was labelled with. Caveat emptor But Waigo hardly ever played in Serie A, he's a serie B player who didn't (or hasn't yet) really made the step up.

Not that I'm saying Waigo isn't good, just that he hasn't quite lived up to the 'Serie A' tag that he was labelled with. It was a bit naive to expect him to be Serie A quality, if he was, he wouldn't be here! I expected him to be a useful player at this level, I think he has proved to be (setting aside his understanding of the offside rule!)

Window Cleaner Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 (edited) It was a bit naive to expect him to be Serie A quality, if he was, he wouldn't be here! I expected him to be a useful player at this level, I think he has proved to be (setting aside his understanding of the offside rule!) Bof, offside is a complete lottery now, looking at the video clips of Monday's game I'd say Wordsworth was fractionally offside in the build up to their first goal. The Norwich bloke was definitely offside in the JP game. Perhaps it's as some say Waigo isn't always offside when it's given, just as quite a few incidents not given are in fact offside. Going back to Monday's first goal, I've been looking at in in slow motion and it really is a wicked bad goal. After Trotman muffs his header and gives Lisbie tha ball he (Lisbie i)s surrounded by 3 of our players, but they're all standing off him,not one of them tries to dispossess him, it's left to Morgan (I think) to come racing back from at least twice the distance away to try and tackle him, Jaidi,Trotman and Harding just ball watch and try to anticipate the lay off, without actually noticing that Wordsworth has got behind Jaidi but it still onside (or not ?) because of Harding's placement, although Harding is by then 10 metres off the ball. It's a schoolboy f*ck up that any Commercial House coach would bollok his players all week for. Edited 31 December, 2009 by Window Cleaner
fanimal Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 I reckon had Paul Wootton been playing he would have stopped both of those goals! horses for courses....

It is an opportunity maybe to get somthing on the cheap with quality! I don't know but lets just see... Well they have a few potential youngsters in their reserves: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portsmouth_F.C._Reserves_and_Academy But out of the players on the edge of the first team, I think only Joel Ward and Marc Wilson, are worth considering (and might drop down the divisions). Asmir Begovic is a superb keeper, but I think there will be too much interest in the Championship (or above). Mike Williamson would be a good signing, but Pompey will want a large transfer fee, and he's already moved once this year. Danny Webber and Tommy Smith might both make good back-up strikers, but neither scores enough, and frankly I'd hope we can sign better.

Tommy Smith is absolutely brilliant, on par with if not better than Rickie in terms of productivity in goals/assists, to argue otherwise is ridiculous and stupid. We wish we could sign a player of his quality.
Pat from Poole Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 Tommy Smith is absolutely brilliant, on par with if not better than Rickie in terms of productivity in goals/assists, to argue otherwise is ridiculous and stupid. We wish we could sign a player of his quality. Tommy Smith would not score anything like 30 goals in League 1 or set up the number that Lambert creates. He is a scuffler of moderate ability.
Ludwig Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 Tommy Smith would not score anything like 30 goals in League 1 or set up the number that Lambert creates. He is a scuffler of moderate ability. We can observe that Tommy Smith played 5 times for Watford at the beginning of this season (a whole league higher than ourselves currently), scoring twice and setting up four goals, a rate of 1.16... goals being created or scored by Smith in a league of a greater quality than our own. Moderate ability, indeed. Let alone, the season before scoring 17 goals and setting up 9 in the Championship (again, a league higher than our own, of greater quality). This player can only be a grafter, eh?
Tac-tics Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 Anyone who saying Tommy Smith wouldnt be a great player at this level for Saints, clearly and boy do I mean clearly, know **** all about football.
S-Clarke Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 Tommy smith would take the mick out of L1. a top top championship player, he'd walk into our team right now.
Genk Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 Tommy Smith would not score anything like 30 goals in League 1 or set up the number that Lambert creates. He is a scuffler of moderate ability. Yes he would.

To add to that, anyone that thinks he'd drop down to League One also doesn't have a clue.
Joensuu Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 We can observe that Tommy Smith played 5 times for Watford at the beginning of this season (a whole league higher than ourselves currently), scoring twice and setting up four goals, a rate of 1.16... goals being created or scored by Smith in a league of a greater quality than our own. Moderate ability, indeed. Let alone, the season before scoring 17 goals and setting up 9 in the Championship (again, a league higher than our own, of greater quality). This player can only be a grafter, eh? Blimey, what have I started eh? Tommy Smith would be a good signing, but frankly not that great. I'm sure we'd all be delighted if we could sign him right now, but he'd have to compete for a starting slot, and unless they are injured I can't see him being selected before either Lambert or Connelly. I believe we should be buying players who would succeed in the Championship (and not buying players only with League One in mind). Tommy Smith is a good striker, but he is older than Lambert, and frankly doesn't have overwhealing stats (80ish goals in over 400 games equates to 1 goal every 5 games - admittedly mostly in the Championship). Do we really want a striker on high wages with such an average record? As MLG says, it's not even as if he would drop down to us anyhow!
ringwood Posted 31 December, 2009 Posted 31 December, 2009 well Smith won't be coming here this season 'Smith started the 2009-10 season in similar form, and was involved in all of Watford's first seven league goals, scoring two and assisting the other five' 3 team rule applies same as it does to Lambert and Hammond quote from wiki
